This was the first time we had used a vet since moving to Oxford last summer. Our 13-year-old cat…read morewas showing a variety of problems (physical and mental) which led my wife and I to think it was time to euthanize him. We went to Cheaha Animal Hospital based on their location and the fact they they could see our cat immediately. The doctor demonstrated the worst possible attitude ... berating me for thinking of putting our beloved cat to sleep and insisting that he could live several more years. He jumped to a conclusion and did not listen as I tried to inform him about all the different problems our cat was having. He said the problem was people who would not let vets do their job. I felt pressured to agree when he insisted that we needed to do blood tests (which cost an unnecessary $150). Those tests showed that our cat had an untreatable condition. Then the vet agreed with what my wife and I had known all along and went ahead with the euthanasia. Others may have different experiences, but I'll be looking for another veterinarian for our other pet. When people are saying goodbye to a pet they have had for 13 years, a lot more consideration and respect is needed from the doctor.

Well, I guess I'll be the first to review my favorite Vet hospital here in town. I'll start by…read moresaying that I was a veterinary technician for almost 10 years so I have really high expectations when it comes to the vet that I choose. I moved from California a year and a half ago and moved with my 13.5 year old Boston Terrier. A few months in to our move he had a seizure and I took him to the closest vet to my friends house. I was not impressed. I was disappointed. A few days after his seizure, he passed away and I needed to take him to a vet so that I could have him cremated. My friend found Cheaha Animal Hospital and we headed over there. As I held him in a box sobbing, Deborah (receptionist) was the first person that I met. She was WONDERFUL and when I say that, it's an understatement. To be in such a vulnerable state and have someone so wonderful treat you kindly and like they have known you forever was very welcoming. She came around to the reception area and gave me a hug. She placed me in a room and said that I could have as much time as I needed before they took him to the back. Well, that was over a year ago and they are the only place I go to for my regular vet. Since the passing of my Boston, They now see my 3 puppies (Gru, Lollie and Kyle) and two cats (Lailie and Wilson) . All three vets are very friendly and do a thorough job. Deborah is always a pleasure to see when you walk in and I just love talking with her. I feel like she's family and has taken good care of us. The technicians are friendly and know what they are doing. It's refreshing.

I had to do it again elsewhere. Her rabies shots were 3 years. Still had 2 years to go and he wanted me to buy another 3 year rabies " to keep it together ". I didn't. Vet came in for no reason. Dog wasn't sick That was another $100 or more just for her to introduce herself. Nice place though. Clean. But these tactics and no --- I went elsewhere.

By the time I left his bill was well over $400 for extra tests and vaccines that had nothing to do with his foot that I was forced to do before they would see him and he came home sick. Now he is loosing control of his bladder, won't eat, and has kettle cough. All problems he wasn't having before I took him there. I asked if they could wave the fee to check him out. They aren't even willing to give a discount and are refusing to take any responsibility for the adverse affects that he is having. We won't be back. If I'm going to pay for him to be seen, it's not going to the people that got him sick. I have been going here for years, ever since Dr Nelson told me this is where he was. Dr Nelson is a great Vet, but he didn't see my pet during this visit. I've never had a problem before and the cost doesn't matter. It's the fact that I felt strong armed to do extra tests. The staff wouldn't explain what the tests were for and now that he is sick from their facility they are treating me like it's my fault my dog got sick from their treatment. All he had was a small lesion on his foot.
