We booked into Lonely Rock Seaside Bungalows for a couple of days as an alternative to the standard chain hotel while my husband was on business at Goldboro nearby. I didn't really check the amenities, and didn't have any expectations. We were fantastically surprised! This location is overlooking an almost deserted sand beach and picturesque secluded harbour. While the bungalows are not directly on the beach, it doesn't matter, they are steps away across a little-used road.
The bungalows themselves are sturdy and well-appointed - these hosts have thought of everything. I have never been to a 'cottage' that has been so scrupulously clean, had the little hotel toiletries, hair dryer, laundry soap and a basket, among other things. The dishes and cutlery are complete, and everything WORKS (have had that happen before at cottage, especially fridges for some reason). They are pretty, and have patios with nice table, chairs and new, clean, BBQs. Everything is checked daily, I watched the staff do this!
The beds seems new, perfect condition, bedside tables and lamps, books; videos, games and even a guitar are available if you would like them. Oh, and, each cottage has satellite TV, if you are desperate.
Pets are more than welcome, and when I took my dog to the beach, another treat awaited; they have a fire pit area (and grill that fits the pit if you want to cook) complete with padded benches, picnic table and extra benches, lots of firewood and kindling (no nickle and diming here like at campgrounds where they charge you $10 for a bag of wood) and even little thoughtful touches like a pile of green marshmallows sticks waiting.
After a hard days work, my husband was so happy to sit around the fire with a glass of wine, and the hostess Conny and her son Toby even wandered down to chat with us! They are really good people, and it was nice that they joined us. This is the type of place that makes you feel as though you are visiting friends when you stay. We will definite go again! read more
