I have had you on my list of To-Dos for the longest time. You are out of my way, so this was a much needed intentional trip. Lona is a natural Asian Fusion restaurant. She is from a part of China that is the most ethically diverse. So the blending of Thai, Chinese, and Lao and other village ethic minorities- makes this a beautiful place. You will notice that there is no pork on the menu. There is a small Muslim minority from China called Hui - and they are sometimes from the Yunnan providence (where Lona is from). So there is less pork in this part of China in general. This is the deal- this is NOT where you get your General Gao's Chicken. Although- the Asian Amercian in me has a soft spot for that stuff. This is where you can get fresh summer rolls with steak, chicken, tofus, lots of vegetarian/vegan options w/o nuts, and local beer. Pros: 1) Get the steak and mushroom dumplings 2) Get a veggie sampler or any sampler. 3) Always get the spicy eggplant as your side 4) The fried brown rice is on point, as well as the glass noodles. 5) The summer roll burrito wraps can be made with anything. You choose your protein of steak, chicken, tofu, and I got the special of the day that was brisket - with some salad medley. 6) I love the ginger peanut sauce, but it isn't as think as I would like it. 7) They have a bar! 8) Plenty of In-door and some outdoor seating 9) Very nice service for fast casual Cons: 1) Summer Rolls Appetizers were delicious but tiny. 2) Tea- They need to be in a tea pot, but it's in a cup. Seriously love this place!! Now you can even order online with is always a huge plus in my book. Anytime I can order online with out making a phone call I am down! Especially on a Saturday night like tonight where when I walked into Lona's they were so busy the line started at the door. I breezed by the line told them my name was asked if I need any silverware and given my order and I was gone. Walking the half block back home! Lona's is another Saint Louis staple. Definitely an Asian fusion dining experience, with an emphasis on bowls and wraps. I love that they let you build your own, and they have good vegetarian options. They also have a lot of sauce choices, which makes it easy to switch it up, even though the menu is not super big. The price is right, they have cane sugar soda products, which is fun, and their cookies are amazing. Also beer, wine, and outdoor seating! They recently expanded their indoor seating too, so not as squished as it once was. So, all and all, solid place, which I go to at least once a quarter in STL. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I just discovered it through a friend and have been coming back as often as I can ever since. The flavors are all so special and unique, I've never had food quite like this before. I've only been here 3 times, but each time I've ordered something different and have been blown away by how good it is! I'd eat here every day if I could. Lona and her staff are so personable and friendly as well! I get excellent service every time and it all contributes to a consistently amazing dining experience. The staff here go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable. The rice paper wrap is my personal favorite, the only way I can think to describe it is the best Asian burrito you'll ever have. My favorite order so far has been a "create your own" rice paper wrap with jasmine rice, turkey, and extra peanut sauce. (Definitely try the turkey!! It's smoked and pulled to perfection). Anyway, I think it's pretty clear I'm obsessed with this place. Best Asian food in STL! Pretty healthy and just generally epic. Go try it!!! I love this place. Definitely some of the most exciting asain food you can get in St. Louis. The owner and chef Lona Lou was a James Beard semi finalist in 2018. And I don't really get the "white washed" critique from some of the reviewers here. Clearly they didn't bother to read the about section of the website. I swear most people who complain of "inauthenticity" of ethic restaurants wouldn't have any point of reference to even know. "Authentic" is a word that is basically meaningless when it comes to food. I'm going to be honest - if it were not for Ian Froeb putting Lona's Lil Eats on his STL 100 List for 2016, I would have never came here. Asian Fusion and vegetarian is not the type of food that are picked up on my food radar. I am so glad, I decided to eat my way through Ian's list. I've learned a valuable lesson in food and have fallen in love with the wraps at Lona's. After enjoying a Lemongrass Turkey Wrap here, I question those who eat at Subway and Jimmy Johns. Why would you want all that starchy, carb filled bread? Here you get a rice paper thin wrap around your ingredients, that allows you to actually enjoy the flavors wrapped up inside. My wrap was stuffed to the max with; pulled turkey, jasmine rice and lemongrass pesto wrapped in a giant rice paper. As a side, I enjoyed a serving of fried rice. It was way better then a bag of chips you'd get at a deli. The size of the wrap was overwhelming. I couldn't eat it all and brought half home. They were kind enough to give me an eco-friendly container to bring my left-overs home. The associate, politely told me, that the texture might be different later when I ate it. It was fine, no complaints here - it made for a light and filling dinner. Will I return? Yes, I'll definitely be back. I've learned my lesson well. Lona's Little Eats is awesome. Whether you're dining in or picking up takeout, the service is on point. No long wait times, but if you are picking up you should call ahead. During COVID they offered curbside service. Not sure if they still do. The vegetarian options are plentiful, and the flavors are robust. And the owners are very nice people. Lona's might be one of my favorite places in St. Louis. They have all of the flavors you could ever want. I always get the rice paper wrap and am too full to ever eat the side, but that's ok because that's probably my least favorite part of the meal. I was really hoping to fall in love with this place but I think it was the punky, unfriendly waiter (food deliverer) who threw it off for me in the end. We ordered the steak dumplings and they came out as mushroom only, we politely asked if it could be corrected (which for me, takes a lot of guts to ask in the first place) and he acted so irked about it and then wouldn't place our plates until we wiped up the table for him "I don't want to get that sauce on the bottom of this plate" ...odd. This spot is perfect for those of us looking for a guilt-free dinner on a Saturday night with Chinese and Thai flair. First off, I love that they make a burrito-like creation using rice paper. I love rice paper in general. They also offer several vegan options (great for those of us who are allergic to saltwater fish/seafood). The veggie spring roll appetizer was delicious (also offered with chicken and/or beef). I really enjoyed the cabbage slaw and spicy tofu as well. Note that they offer beer, wine and a fun "mystery punch" that rotates. Seating is available inside and the sidewalk patio. First off, let me say that the food was AMAZING. I've never had Thai food. It was a bit spicy, the dumplings were awesome. We had steak and mushroom. It was truly good. But the red sauce was a bit too spicy for my taste. The green sauce that came with the shrimp platter worked very well. And I liked how we seat ourselves. It's give us a chance to go either up stairs or down stairs. But this was a great experience. Since it was our first time the greeter explained everything very well. I hate I didn't catch his name when he said it. But he was great. He explained the entire menu. I gave this restaurant 4 stars because of the decor. It could have been decorated better. I only saw one painting in the room where we sat but it did make me feel at home still. Sometimes, I give a three star because I had a poor experience, and sometimes I give a three star for a good experience but nothing wowed me about the experience. The only way you know is to read my reviews. I don't give 5 stars flippantly. Before I begin, my husband I have been here twice in a week. We don't live anywhere near Lona's and we have to go relatively far out of our little bubble in Webster to get it. Tiny, quaint, authentic. Those are the best ways to describe the atmosphere. Only one of those words also describes the food. Authentic. The other two words for the food, flavorful, unique. You are greeted by a staff eager to please and help you through the menu and are happy to get your drinks for you (even though this is an establishment with the fountain available to the patrons)- they are just that nice. I'm quite new to the Lona's phenomenon and only learned her amazing backstory (Soulard Market!) here in STL, on the very first night there. My husband and I were so pleased, so very pleased. When they have the Hill Tribe Soup- get it. You can taste the smokey char of the meat in the broth- not salt like many broth bases. When they have it, get it, it's not a menu staple. It's enormous, by the way. HUGE bowl. The clear rice wraps are amazing and sometimes I just don't want the flavor of the tortilla to interfere with what's going on on the inside. Chicken Thai wrap. Filling, delicious, but does not leave you lethargic. The flavors are hands down authentic and unique to any other Asian-type establishments anywhere in STL and the husband and I have had A LOT since that's his favorite. Might be mine now, too. Lona's husband came over and greeted us and asked us if it was our first time, inquired about how we felt about the food, and personally thanked is. I love that!!! Also, even when the place is packed, the wait doesn't seem terrible and the staff is incredibly friendly and will bring out your entree instead of letting it sit while waiting for your sides. Like I said, we have been twice in eight days, and the price won't break the bank either which is either a good problem to have or challenge for me... I haven't figured out which. Go. And take it from the staff, dipping the wrap in peanut sauce takes the sublime flavor profile up another notch. In fact, I now attempt to replicate the wrap at home (since I don't live in St. Louis). While my rendition isn't even close to the perfection that is Lona's, it still scratches the itch. But I have figured out what makes these things so damn good. It's the smoked vinaigrette! I create my version of the vinaigrette at home using a smoked paprika imported from Spain. I may even move back to St. Louis just so I can eat at Lona's more often - it's really that good! read more

I tried Lona's this past weekend because one of my friends has been raving about it for the past week, and it was a game changer. Giant rice paper wrap burritos?? Five kinds of meat, noodles/rice/greens, and a delicious assortment of sauces? I was sold. I've had sushi burritos, kimchi bulgolgi burritos, Chipotle burritos, spring rolls, but nothing could compare to the giant rice paper burrito at Lona's. I got the #6 grilled steak wrap - a rice paper wrap with grilled streak, jasmine rice, and smoked vinaigrette - with a side of spicy eggplant. It took awhile to get our food but that's because it was the saturday night of after Mardi Gras, but when my food came I was just blown away by the size of my burrito. The steak wrap was delicious. The steak was a little chewy but so good with the sauce and jasmine rice (which is 100x better than the fake asian rice at school) and the greens all in my rice paper wrap. I really liked the rice paper wrap because I tend to stray away from ordering burritos since the flour tortillas are always so filling and get in the way of all my fillings. The rice paper wrap was the perfect alternative; it kept the fillings inside from spilling out, but it didn't take away from the flavor with too much wrap. I was only able to finish half my burrito because it was so huge. I gobbled up all of my spicy eggplant which was super delicious!! Definitely recommend the spicy eggplant. This new discovery will probably ruin me for the next few months, but at least the burritos seem a lot healthier than Chipotle or conventional Mexican food. Hands down my favorite restaurant in the City. Everything is always fresh and damn delicious. I frequent Lona's for takeout and often get enough to eat for several meals. The staff is the best and you rarely have to wait long for your food. For appetizers their spring rolls and dumplings are hard to beat. I get them every single time I go. For an entrée I highly recommend the Lemongrass Turkey Wrap, the Five-Star Platter, or the Pesto Shrimp Plate. Honestly, anything you order will be amazing. It's the middle of quarantine; however, I was still super determined to try this little joint. Luckily, I was able to order very easily online and pick my pick up time. Because of this, the food was still nice and hot by the time I picked it up and drove back home to quarantine. I ordered the Big Thai wrap with the side salad. The wrap was very filling and super flavorful. From the first bite, I was in love! Chicken was well cooked and the flavors just fit together so nicely. Normally, I am a spice fan and I add hot sauce to everything, but this wrap didn't even need it! The salad was very refreshing too!
