After I graduated, my mum had been pestering me for weeks to get my degree framed instead of leaving it in its folder gathering dust on the windowsill. My sister recommended I go to her regular framer Barry, who runs his family owned business, Logan Picture Framing. My sister's a documentary photographer who constantly needs her work framed for exhibitions and is also someone who is unwilling to part with her money unless it's for a quality job, so I felt pretty safe with this business from the start.
Barry, the store owner, is an utter delight and knows his craft inside out.
We had a good chat while I was getting the details of my order sorted, i.e. what matte board, frame, and glass I wanted. Barry's got great taste and will give you his honest opinion on something if you ask for it. He used to be a carpenter and a paramedic, and somehow this knowledge made me trust him more with the job. Not to mention he attends all of the latest woodworking conferences so he's up to speed with the industry. I also felt great about supporting a local, family run business. (Sometimes Barry's daughter drops by to help, while the family dog, a friendly little terrier, is a regular behind the counter and is always keen for a pet.)
The end result of the framing was beautiful: really classy, and very sturdy. I'm giving it to Mum for her birthday present.
I was so happy with the job that I've since been back. The latest thing I've gotten framed is a double-sided paper plate (a childhood drawing my parents couldn't bear to throw out) and Barry managed to make both sides of the frame glass so you can see the plate in its entirety. What a considerate guy! If you live in inner Brisbane, Logan Picture Framing is well worth the trip. read more
