I'd often walked past this gift shop, very crowded with items but seemingly no customers, puzzling. One time I was attracted inside by colourful window display, novelty items which are widespread but convenient this day, and I purchased three of same item, two of which I intended to "put away" for gifts. I'd waited until our area was renovated before using the first of the three, This was 4 months after purchase when I first removed them from packing boxes, ready to display.
A very negative experience followed, and here are the facts.
After a few months of storing them, until our area renovated, I unpacked the first item. It immediately collapsed and broke. I returned to shop, referring to my bank statement proving date of purchase, and with all three items in hand, to ask requesting a refund please. I'd have accepted exchange for something else of equal or more value in-store for the other two unused items (which I no longer trusted to do their job after the first collapse), but I'd require a refund for the faulty one please. There was resistance immediately, the shop assistant needed to ring the owner to ask what she was allowed to do. I was told the owner refused to refund or exchange at all, on all three incuding the faulty one, because I'd bought them 4 months ago and there's nothing wrong with the other two. (these had not been tested yet, but on "appearances" they were intact.) I again explained that I had not tried the other two out. I explained that when something collapses first time used, it's faulty. I was again told No. I asked if I could speak to owner: No, come back tomorrow. I asked: Could I please speak to her on the phone (as she had just done)?: No.
It's generally known that under basic consumer law: a customer is entitled to a refund for a faulty item. This Shop disregarded this, then refused to accept the three items back , or offer me an exchange on any or all three, until, only after some further discussion, I was offered an exchange for the faulty one, and was offered another of the same! I would not accept another of the same, I don't trust the quality after the breakage. Never was I granted the refund to which I was entitled. I chose to substitute a differen kitchen titem for the faulty item, which seemed a safer course. I retained the unused two which remain to be tested.
Unless a fault occurs with the other two items I would not return to Loft. Nor would anybody I know., such is my experience with this retailer's blatant disregard for consumer entitlement and their after-sales stance. I experienced neither "service" nor "goodwill" at this place, therefore this retailer will not be rewarded with my dollars a second time. Another reviewer has noticed this shop is pretty quiet and this does not surprise me. read more
