Three reasons we went here: - Three minutes from my house ;-) - Charcoal oven where they make the pizza's - It was 'Gierige Maandag' (Greedy Monday); pizza's were 8 euro's So yea. The combination of these factors made us go here. The place is nicely decorated, great for a multitude of reasons. Good wifi available, good beers both bottled and draft, and god yes those pizza's. De-lish. They were very nicely done and even though it's called Gierige Maandag, they definitely were not Gierig with the toppings. Great mozzarella, lovely crust, not too much cheese (god I hate too much cheese), very nicely balanced flavors. We switched halfway through our pizza's and I can confirm that both were amazing. They have a number of specials depending on the day, so I'd recommend trying out a few of these days. But the pizza they serve are what hooked me and I'm sure it'll get you hooked, too. You're welcome! :-)

Saturday, 1pm-ish, yearning for coffee…read more I have to pick up something, but i am stalling. Not sure if I really need coffee, i guess i need an excuse. Coffee is always a good excuse. So here I am, wanting to sit on their big terrace which is unfortunately a bit drizzled on by rain, I will sit inside, window side. I like the place. Looking from the outside in, the place doesn't draw you in though. Once sitting inside it looks nice, styled and clean. Except from the cobweb on the window-sill. Makes me suddenly wonder what bugs are hiding in the fur, stylishly draped over some of the chairs. I'm squeamish for bugs. Luckily easy distracted, so i'm leaning back against it while ordering my cuppa joe. I'm ordering my espresso macchiato, which taste is good but not as scalding hot as i like it to be. And as that was gone in a split second, I'm having a soup, to warm me up (and/or prolong the stalling) It's a chunky tomato soup with bell pepper. I am not a big fan of soup, but a great executed soup i can truly appreciate. So I do. The young staff is friendly but the boy seems nervous. On his "did you enjoy your soup" I have to suppress the need to yell "NO". Not because i dislike him, he seems sweet, but just to see his reaction. I am weird that way. The place oozes tranquility, a perfect place to relax and have a cuppa joe. Too quiet for a Saturday afternoon me thinks. Curious to find out how the atmosphere is during dinner time. Until then! :)

They serve it in generous (obscene, maybe) amounts, which makes dinner a real event. Clamps, shrimps, lobsters, oysters... they all form mountains in this baroque restaurant. It creates a feeling of stress as you realize the amount of work needed to eat it. So enjoyable. Steak tartar is good enough. Fish, better not try (overcooked). Desserts are what you would expect, not refined but tasty and sugary. Service is quite fast and incredibly professional. A fun option not to be missed.

The location and ambiance - well, that is what everyone writes glowingly about in their reviews. The space is uber urban and super cool and inviting. Complete with old industrial equipment and ceiling riggings. The food . . . good, but not great. I guess the best description I have for the food is - unremarkable. It was a decent meal and we enjoyed the variety of offerings on the menu; however, the meal was not the sort of "I need to get back there" kind of dining experience. As for the service - I think the place is just so large - there must be one hundred tables - that it is easy for tables to get lost in the shuffle. We were one of those tables. We just got sort of forgotten. When the servers did present table-side, they were kind and attentive . . . but the times we actually saw our server were few and far between. One note, the servers for our table changed three times over our two hour dining time slot. This may have been the reason we got "lost." My take away - give Café-Restaurant Amsterdam a go. It is worth it. And, make certain you have a reservation - they are a very large dining space that is popular and the tables fill.
