He changed the mailbox and front door lock and though expensive this was all fine - but I noticed while he was there a rattle / loose fit in the existing lock and asked him if he could tighten the fit and get rid of the rattle. He said yes but that he didn't have the proper tools so would need to book a follow up. We did so - another £100 charge out - and to my surprise it took him 5 mins and he didn't in fact briny and new tools, just a screwdriver and hammer etc from his tool bag. So he was clearly just trying to get paid 2 charge out fees for 1 job. And to make matters worse, on the 2nd call out he noticed yet another problem (some of the bolts not sitting properly when locked), which got my wife all wound up and anxious, but said once again he would need to come back for a 3rd visit - and another £100 charge out! - since he didn't have time to do this while on site. In fact he had come to ours 30 mins earlier than agreed so when he claimed lack of time he was actually running 20 minutes early from when he was supposed to be with us! I found several vetted companies that were nearby, so I set out to deciding what kind of lock I'd like. We decided that we wanted something that automatically locks when we leave and close the door. I did some research and was looking at a particular Yale lock, and called the companies on my list to get prices for the lock and installation. North London Locksmiths was 5th on my contact list, I believe. The gentleman that answered the phone was happy to assist (they certainly all weren't thrilled to speak to me, that's for sure - A few acting like I was putting them out by contacting them to consider them for the job). He asked why I was interested in the Yale lock, and that they have a lock by ERA that is virtually the same, but much less expensive and much better quality, by his estimation. He advised that I look up that lock and to feel free to contact them back. I did some research, and decided that was the way to go. The savings of the money, plus the fact that he brought it up in the first place gave me a lot of trust in his business, so we set-up the appointment for the following-day. The installation took about an hour, and he did have to cut a bit out of our door frame to fit it in, but he did a nice job with filling the hole. Unless you look really closely, you can't even tell. All-in-all, we were very happy, and we really like the new lock.

Here's my story: I had bought a new leather belt and I needed additional holes punched into it. A few years back I was facing a similar scenario and the clerk at that store in the US actually charged me a couple Dollars per hole. I've been extremely wary of shoe repair stores ever since and so I actually asked how much they would charge for such a simple action (which literally takes like 10 seconds per hole). Here's their answer: "Oh, just put a donation in the charity box!" I loved that answer so much, that I immediately stripped of the belt and handed it over...in the end I donated a pound per hole.
