This is an amazing, small Osteria just outside of the heart of Florence. Family owned and operated,…read moreit has a ton of charm. The food was Devine. We stumbled in our 1st night we stayed in Florence because it was within walking distance from our Villa. It did not disappoint. We had a basket of baked local vegetables with a shaved ricotta cheese on them to start. One of the best things I've eaten so far in Italy! We had the Steak Florintine both nights, both were incredible cuts of meat. The 2nd night (our last night on Florence), we went back because it was so good the 1st night, I had a pasta dish with red sauce, chili, and more of that shaved Ricotta...OMG, best pasta dish of my life. We also had a bean dish (again, fresh local vegetables) cooked in a different red sauce that was amazing as well. This red sauce was a touch sweeter but just as delicious. Both nights we had the best Pana Cotta I've ever had. Now for the people. They are AMAZING! Owner there is amazing and his staff is like family (might actually be) We felt like family after the 2nd nights dinner. They were so happy to see us when we showed up again. Like any place in Italy, call 1st to make sure they can accommodate you for dinner. Saw them turn away a few walkins, even with open tables (a thing here in Italy I've noticed, and I think it has to do with quality, not quantity in preparedness) Overall this is a must try place. Very local feel and excellent wine list from all regions. Again, we felt like family and it shows in the meals they prepare.

You know those meals, the few you can clearly recall with pleasure for whatever reason. I'll elaborate. We walked in and were warmly greeted and we picked our spot to sit. We started with a bottle of Chianti which our server chose. We wanted a local wine and he said most of their wines come from "within 3 miles." We looked over the menu for some vegetarian options and found some delicious looking things. When it came time to order we said "sono vegetariano" and wanted to make sure the things we ordered would be. He smiled and told us "we could order whatever we wanted" and they would make it for us. Mama Mia! We did however stick to the menu and ordered some appetizers and main courses. SCW had the Insalata Caprese and I had another salad which I don't remember what it was called. The dishes were extraordinarily fresh. Look at the incredibly vibrant red in the tomatoes! The buffalo mozzarella with such rich flavors was outstanding. My appetizer was beautiful and delicious with thin strips of carrot, tomato, fried eggplant, mozzarella and zucchini on a bed of lettuce and some balsamic vinegar. SCW and I swapped plates several times and enjoyed each delicious bite with the wine and bread. We took our time and ate like Italians do, savoring each bite and enjoying the company. The main course came out next. Forgive me for not remembering the proper names for the dishes. SCW had a mushroom based sauce for the thin strips of pasta that was delicious. The sauce was complex with the perfect amount. I had potato gnocchi with basil, tomato, and red sauce that blew my socks right off. Again we both swapped dishes several times and enjoyed every bite. Each bite of the potato gnocchi was like a delicious flavor bomb exploding in my mouth. We finished our meal off with some coffee. I had an espresso while SCW had a macchiato. Delicious. I must highly compliment the gentleman who served us (the proprietor?) and the chef for such an incredible experience. La Paglietta was one of the most memorable meals I've had. Thank you so much for making it so.

But the Potatoes on the side made the meal, they were amazing. The owner was nice and kept bringing out various appetizers, that we didn't order, and ended up charging us for them. It is also a little sketchy because at the end of the night the total came out to be 700 euros for the 25 of us, when at past restaurants it was usually only 300 to 400 euros. And this place by no means was terribly expensive. Overall the experience and the food were good, but like I said before there are definitely more authentic better places to get good food.
