John promised to begin within 2-3 weeks and said the project would take about a week to complete. He presented a "design" -- just a few pencil lines on paper -- and asked for 75% of the total cost upfront, claiming it was needed for materials. After receiving the money, he stopped responding consistently. For nearly three months, he kept promising to start "tomorrow" or "next week," but rarely showed up. Eventually, he sent one worker for only a day or two, who did very poor work -- simply threw some gravel around and left. John then lied about parts of the project we had agreed upon and again demanded more payment before completing anything. When we refused to pay until the job was done, he disappeared, saying he needed to "order more materials," and never came back. We have been considering legal action and consulting with a lawyer regarding this situation. It is clear that this company takes people's money and does not complete the work. I'm sharing our experience to warn others -- please be extremely cautious before hiring Natural Landscapes and Designs or John Martinez.

They didn't even remove enough rock to expose the landscape fabric underneath. This company just covered it up with more landscape fabric and mulch. They saw an easy way to scam me out of money without having to do the work. They also killed an entire flowerbed of hostas that weren't to be touched. I cannot warn you about this company enough. I would consider them technical artists in the area of landscape design…read more I recently bought a house on the side of the hill with serious drainage problems that cause leakage into the back wall. The previous owner had warned me about it, but didn't know how it could be fixed. Doug and Loren came out, took careful measurements and came up with a plan which preserved the trees, which were near the house. They put in a French drain with a removable grate on the concrete patio as well as 6 separate drains leading from the house. Doug and Loren also gave me advice about how a guttering system could lead into the drains.The crew worked rapidly and took only two days from start to finish. Now my house is actually dry around the base, something which I didn't think was possible. They did a great job and at a very reasonable price. Yeah to Doug & Loren! PS They also won one of the top landscaping awards in the area.
