This school put my Spanish speaking on the fast track! I took online school through Livit before I went and it definitely helped. I went for two weeks but I wish it had been longer. The curriculum includes a one on one guide and they are such a wealth of knowledge. The area is perfectly safe, it was beautiful and the people were very friendly. highly recommend!

My experience at Livit was incredible. The classes are customized to your individual level. The class sizes are small, but large enough to encourage learning and conversation amongst students. The teachers are incredible and so helpful. The exercises and examples used in the classes are easy to comprehend and facilitate rapid learning of the Spanish language. The lunches provided by Livit were fantastic. I enjoyed talking with all of the other students and the teachers during lunchtime. This helped to increase my conversational Spanish. Puebla is a great city. On the weekends, there was always plenty to do in the plazas and throughout the town. I enjoyed afternoons with our guides touring museums, walking around the plazas and streets, shopping, sitting in cafes and playing board games. Puebla is a safe city and easy to navigate getting around. We lived with a family arranged through the school and really enjoyed our time with them. They were super kind, helpful, and live very close to the school. It was great to eat with them daily and converse with them in Spanish about their family, customs, life, and interests. It definitely helped our Spanish skills. I would highly recommend attending the Livit school in Puebla to increase your fluency with the Spanish language. I hope to attend again. Katy K. read more

Livit is dedicated and very professional about an immersive Spanish experience. Prior to booking, they give you useful information, no "pie-in-the-sky" hot air. After you book, and before you get there, they follow through with helpful tips for getting around Puebla, including things to do. They also give you a written and oral pre-arrival Spanish assessment, which turned out to be pretty spot-on for me (and, from what I saw, for the vast majority of students). From day one, you notice their professionalism in business administration and customer service. They set you up with small-group classes (mornings, 5x/week) and with one-on-one city guides (afternoons, 3x/week); they serve you lunch (usually outside, in their delightful garden) with attention to your dietary needs (5x/week, with 3x/week being home-cooked); and they have excursions to intriguing places lined up every Thursday afternoon. The teachers are qualified and personable, the topics covered in class are interesting and engaging overall, and the instruction is solid. In combination with the one-on-one guidance in the afternoons and the weekly excursions with guided tours in easy-enough Spanish, not to mention a ton of things to do, see, and explore in Puebla, you do get a rich and varied immersion. Two thirds of my small-group experience were bogged down by that one student who would often monopolize the conversation and keep going down some rabbit hole, taking away from everyone else's speaking time. That could have used some classroom management from the teacher. Also, there were a couple of occasions when the teacher spent a lot of time writing up charts on the board that could have been handouts. That halted the conversation, and made it feel a little like just the kind of "school" that Livit says it avoids. That experience almost cost Livit one star in this review, but the last third saved it (if barely). Maru was a great teacher; she was animated and engaging, kept the class moving along, and did a good job keeping "that" student in check. Therefore, I'll say four stars for the small-group instruction, and still five stars total, because everything else went as well as it could possibly have! Livit really knows business management and customer service. They choose good "adjunct" people to be one-on-one afternoon guides. You get a different guide every week. Mine were all very friendly, and willing to engage with whatever tourist attraction or activity I felt like. And the Puebla area has so much of that to offer! I was able to make the most of my time, thanks in no small part to the effective afternoon guides Livit works with. I had turned to Livit for the kind of guided immersive experience that would work for me as a Spanish learner who had never been to Mexico before. And in the end, it came out a success! read more

Excellent program. Morning classes, afternoon one on ones with locals, weekly excursions to interesting places all provide a chance to improve your Spanish. So many opportunities to practice your language skills. Everyone involved, the owners and the staff, is concerned for the students' needs and their experience. I have been to Livit three times and having studied Spanish is many places I can say that it is the best. read more

I highly recommend this language school. I studied at Livit for two weeks and enjoyed the age range of students and all of the opportunities to practice my Spanish. Puebla is also a very interesting city to explore. When I returned home I continued my learning through online sessions. My instructor was highly professional and very encouraging. If you were looking for an intensive immersion experience, no matter what your language level, Livit is an excellent choice! read more

Exellent program. Great teachers. Interesting and effective curriculum. Puebla is a very interesting city, lots of arts and culture. The match-up with a personal guide in the afternoon is amazing, it really made a difference. read more
I went to Livit Immersion in Puebla as a Spanish language beginner and I left not only with improved speaking and listening skills but with a deep appreciation for the people and culture of Mexico. The staff is friendly and so helpful; from the moment I registered Scott and Tom made sure I had all the information needed for travel arrangements and kept in regular contact with me throughout. In addition to small group daily classes (shout out to my amazingly patient instructor, Maru) and authentic family-style dining, I was also provided with a 1-on-1 guide each afternoon, which allowed me to immediately try my new language skills out in the community without fear! The weekly field trips were fun and informative; we visited places that hold significance to the local community, not just typical tourist destinations. I experienced so much in just 2 weeks, truly it was a life-changing opportunity. read more

I only spent one week with Livit in October 2024, but I could tell that it is an excellent Spanish immersion program. I have attended Spanish immersion programs before in Guatemala and San Miguel de Allende in Mexico and Livit compares very favorably. I was fortunate in having one on one time with my teacher during the week. I learned a lot about Mexican culture during the week. After the formal lesson at the school, I was teamed up with a guide associated with the school and we had many enjoyable conversations and visits to museums, bookstores, cafes, etc. There was also an excursion to a pre Colombian site not far from Puebla. I would also like to mention that Puebla is a beautiful town with a beautiful Zocalo and historic core. It is close to Mexico City, I highly reccoment both the Livit Immersion Center and the city of Puebla. read more

Livit was a great experience. I have done a few Spanish immersion programs, and Livit is a highly structured opportunity which is great for students who thrive in structured learning environments. There is classroom time (classes are very small, so you will definitely get time to speak). Then there is one on one speaking with a local Spanish speaker (the guides know so much about Puebla, you'll learn a lot). And then there is fieldtrip time! If you can stay for at least two weeks, I would highly recommend it. read more

The Livit facility and instructors are outstanding. The instructors are always willing and available to any questions or clear up any confusion about the Spanish language. If you do the work during the 2 week course, you will be very satisfied with your progress in understanding grammar and your improved speaking skills. read more

Great program. It's truly immersive, which is occasionally uncomfortable, but ultimately rewarding. The school is well run with excellent teachers, educational/entertaining afternoon activities, and even authentic lunches. The classes are small with a relaxed atmosphere. Puebla has lots of history and culture, especially in the colonial center of town. Yet it's not as touristy as some places, which means you can really use the Spanish you've learned. This is the only immersive experience I've had, but would certainly recommend it to other Spanish learners. read more

I can't say enough good things about Livit, where I spent four weeks this past winter. The school is located on a quiet street within easy walking distance from Puebla's Historic Center. (It actually doubles as the family home of Scott and Maru, the wonderful couple who founded the school and who both teach there.) The house has a beautiful garden, where students gather for a home-made lunch after classes. One couldn't help but feel 'at home' there. Equally important, I was very impressed by my teacher, Fernando, who was not only super knowledgeable but also a joy to study with. I should also mention that Livit provides individual guides--young, well-educated poblanos who can show you around town and with whom you can practice your spoken Spanish after classes. To top it all off, every week the school arranges a guided tour of a nearby historic town. All in all, it was an excellent immersive experience, both linguistically and culturally speaking. Highly recommended. read more

LIVIT IMMERSION CENTER has the best language program I've experienced. I'm comparing it to schools I've attended in Morelia, Oaxaca, and Guanajuato, which are all very good, but LIVIT is in a wonderful class all by itself. With the help of Maru, Scott, Tom, and the rest of the staff, the school provides a truly immersive language/cultural experience that will build your confidence and turbo charge your skills. Students are assigned to group classes based on proficiency levels. I've usually had private classes, so was a bit leery to be in a class of five students, but it was great. Luis, the instructor, introduced material at a brisk pace while fostering conversations that allowed us to practice new skills while building our confidence about conversing in Spanish. Our little group quickly bonded, and we spent quite a bit of time together outside of class in the three weeks I was there. The four hours of class in the morning are really just the beginning. All the students eat lunch together in the lovely garden, with home cooked Poblano dishes courtesy of Maru's family. Scott usually provides cultural background info along with the meal. Then most afternoons are spent with 1:1 guides who walk you around Puebla and do whatever. There are a bunch of museums to visit if that's your thing. Or the two of you can just have coffee. A couple of times I even had my guide help me with projects I was preparing for the class. Between morning classes and afternoon 1:1 conversations, my vocabulary and rate/ease of speaking both improved significantly. Once a week there's a cultural field trip to an interesting pueblo. Scott will take you someplace somewhat off the beaten path. I would probably have missed all these destinations if I'd been on my own, and would have been the poorer for it. And you still have the weekends to do other stuff you want, like cooking classes or tours. As a solo traveler, I especially appreciate the sense of community that the folks at LIVIT create. LIVIT IMMERSION CENTER creates a truly immersive experience that I recommend without reservation. read more

I had an excellent experience at Livit Immersion Center! The entire staff was very friendly, professional and well organized. They keep the number of students in each class low so it makes learning much easier. They serve all the students lunch together so it's another opportunity to get to know the students from the other classes and practice Spanish. Also the food was great! I also loved that each student is assigned a personal Spanish speaking local guide to spend time with in the afternoons. It was another great way to practice Spanish outside of the classroom. And Puebla was the perfect location. The locals were extremely friendly and easy to talk to and the city had plenty of interesting places to go yet it wasn't huge and overwhelming. I highly recommend this experience. Don't bother looking any further, just book this now. You won't regret it! read more

The teachers are professional and encouraging for both my wife who has a basic understanding of Spanish and for me at the upper intermediate level. We felt like our level of Spanish improved and we learned areas that we needed to focus on in our studies. We also enjoyed the native lunches served at the school, the local restaurants, and the tours the school led. read more

I had a wonderful 2 weeks at LIVIT. Very comfortable and friendly school located centrally in a fascinating city where I felt safe at all times. I live in Canada and have been taking one-on-one online lessons with Scott, one of the owners of the Livit school. He is a gifted teacher. He is very encouraging and was able to put me at ease immediately. He quickly figured out what level I was at and what I needed to know most, but at the same time he was open to working on whatever things I wanted to learn. It also helped that Scott is very good with technology because I am not, and when I had troubles with google docs or whatsapp, Scott was able to set me straight. I have learned a lot from him in our Whatsapp lessons. I'd love to attend the Livit school in person one day, but in the meantime, this is the next best thing. read more

I have studied twice at the Livit Immersion Center for a total of 8 weeks, and intend to return as soon as possible. The standard of teaching is excellent, with classes tailored to the level of each student. The school is in a great location, and the lunches provided each day are delicious, and provide an opportunity to enjoy and learn about traditional Mexican food. The classes are complemented by regular outings with personal guides (1 on 1), and this is a fantastic way to explore the city while practising your conversational skills with a native Spanish speaker. The weekly guided excursions to historical and interesting sites near to Puebla are very interesting and enjoyable, and are a great way for the students to bond and further practise their Spanish conversation skills. The city of Puebla is also a great place to be, with temperate weather, countless historical sites to visit, and many fantastic restaurants. As a repeat student, I have no hesitation in recommending the Livit Immersion Centre in Puebla as a fantastic place to study Spanish. read more

It's a pleasure to echo the positive comments of many, many previous students: Livit is awesome. I spent five weeks attending classes in the fall and living in one of the two apartments connected to the school. It was my second time studying with Scott, Maru and their family; I visited in 2019 and enjoyed my time so much I had to return. My apartment was comfortable, clean, airy, and super-convenient. I often sat on my porch in the afternoons listening to the sounds of Avenida Nuevo Leon- the tamale vendor announcing a sale, neighbors chatting, dogs barking in Spanish. And the Puebla Arena is only a few blocks away--lucha libre every Monday night! Before you go in, buy a mask from one of the street vendors, then a massive Pueblan-style cemita sandwich from one of the many food stands in front of the Arena. Eat as much of that sandwich as you can, then wrap up the 80% you couldn't finish to have for dinner the next three nights. My teacher Luis was (and is) kind, patient, funny, and ready with lessons tailored to our interests. If a classmate or I mentioned the need for more practice with commands or the subjunctive, for example, he would prepare a next-day lesson on the topic using music, film clips and short readings w/questions covering the grammar while also adding cultural context, humor, even a little philosophy. Classes were small-for two weeks it was Teacher Luis and me, and for three weeks I had two classmates who were likewise kind and patient. These four hours of class always passed quickly, and then-it just gets better-we met in the school's garden for home-cooked lunches prepared by Flora and Carolina. So delicious, and the lunch hour also gave us an opportunity to talk about what we'd learned in class, plan late-afternoon or weekend excursions, and exchange tips regarding where to find the best pozole or mezcal. Scott, Maru, Vania, Tom, and Julio were always present, too, and chatted with us in Spanish, gently teaching new words and phrases and making us feel at home. After a day or two it seemed like we really were a family. In the afternoons we walked as a group to nearby Parque Carmen to meet our guides for two hours of exploration and conversation. Puebla's historical district is walkable and has hundreds of places to see, most of them free of charge. Sometimes we would walk the entire time (Parque Ecological-awesome, and far!); other times we'd find a coffee shop and talk about whatever was on our minds. I had several guides during my five-week stay, and all were energetic and encouraging, with great ideas about how to use the time, which always passed too quickly. Puebla is objectively one of the most beautiful colonial cities in the world, suffused with churches, museums, markets, restaurants, street fairs and distinctive architecture. No matter the length of your stay, you won't run out of places to see or things to do. On Thursdays we climbed into the school's minivans for a half-day visit to a nearby historical city or national park, with a packed lunch included. For me these weekly trips to Cholula, Atlixco, Tecali, Chautla, Tlaxcala, San Andres Calpan, or Canton were a highlight-Scott and Maru have chosen towns for their ambience and cultural significance, and Scott's deep knowledge of the area created a feeling of going on the best school field trip ever, with people you actually like. Speaking of excursions: there are two tour companies operating in the far corner of the Zocalo across from the Cathedral, and both offer full-day trips on Saturdays and Sundays to historical, and very charming, towns a little farther out like Apulco, Cuetzalan and Chignahuapan. I went somewhere almost every Sunday with friends I'd met at school-we left in the morning as a small group of students from Livit but returned in the evening having made friends with most of the people on the bus. Of all the things I love about Livit, and there are many, two things stand apart: I learned a lot of Spanish, and felt like I was living with family. I use Spanish now in my job (teaching English to recently-arrived people from Spanish-speaking countries in my home town of Seattle, Washington), and am planning to return to Mexico next fall to continue my studies. I should go to another city to gain more breath of Mexican culture, but the pull back to Puebla, and Livit, is very strong. If Livit were a movie, I'd give it six stars. If it were a Spinal Tap reprise, it would go to 11, easily. Love to everyone at Livit- Scott, Maru, Vania, Tom, Carolina, Flora, Julio, les extraño mucho! read more

We had a wonderful experience at Livit Immersion Center! Scott, Maru, and family are extremely kind and generous, and our teacher Luis was terrific. Everything was wonderful: the classes, the lunches, the afternoons with guides, the excursions, and the opportunities to get to know our fellow students. Puebla is an amazing place to visit, and we learned a tremendous amount about language, culture, and history. I'd recommend getting yourself up to at least advanced beginner status before arriving to get the most out of the experience (e.g., participating fully in conversations), but they do a great job of catering to different levels. read more

Livit was an amazing experience! You're added to classes based on skill level, and the class sizes are super small. I was lucky enough to be the only one in my class, so the lesson was highly personalized. The school itself is beautiful, and the staff (all of them, even the cleaning staff) are incredibly friendly and helpful. The provided lunches were absolutely delicious, and we had different things every day. After class, you walk around with a local guide, which was especially intimidating since I didn't really know much Spanish before arriving. However, the guides were very friendly and helpful. read more

Livit Immersion Center is an exceptional place to learn Spanish. I spent two weeks there in February, 2024 and my experience was excellent. The school is very professionally run, and the directors and teachers are excellent. My teacher, Fernando, did a wonderful job personalizing the topics for myself and my one classmate, based on our requests and his observations. The lunches at the school were delicious and converient and provided a great opportunituy to get to know other students, something which did not occur readily in the last school I attended in Oaxaca. The two hours spent with a personal guide three days per week were very enjoyable. Not only did they provide an additional opportunity to practice speaking Spanish, but the guides were really helpful in explaining things that we were seeing in museums and around the city. Overall the school does an excellent job of immersing students in the Spanish language. It is an intensive program which can be tiring, but the experience really pays off. I also loved the city of Puebla. The streets in the historic center were always filled with Mexican people going about their daily lives; shopping, eating treats, holding hands, listening to music, etc, and it was really pleasant hanging out there. Although there are tourists in Puebla, their presence was not really visible so Puebla felt to me like an authentic Mexican city. I highly recommend Livit Immersion Center and Puebla, Mexico. read more

I did a lot of research on Spanish language schools in Central and South America that offered small group classes. Livit more than met my expectations. The staff were friendly and kind. They made every effort to ensure that we had a positive learning experience. My teacher was so good that several of us wanted to take him home. (Luis is still there.) I appreciated how he could range from complex grammar to insightful commentary on social and political issues in his country. He also had a trove of valuable summary sheets which I have enshrined in my Livit folder. In addition, the lunches, home-cooked Mexican food prepared in-house by the owner's mother-in-law, are so good one could come just to eat. Three days a week, we were paired with a Mexican guide who joined us for excursions to museums, walks in the city, coffee or whatever we were up for. This is an invaluable part of the program because it gives students the opportunity to practice speaking and to get to know some Mexicans. Finally, on Thursday's, Livit packs its students into a van and heads for a location in the region where students can gain a deeper understanding of the history and culture of Mexico. Caveat emptor: this is not a school for the faint of heart. Plan for 7 hours per day of Spanish language plus homework. But from my perspective as a teacher who works with Spanish-speaking students, it was well worth the effort. read more

After attending five Spanish schools in four countries, this has been my best experience so far. There are two Spanish schools in Puebla that get consistently excellent reviews. I chose Livit over the other school due to its smaller size and warm, family-run atmosphere. Having attended larger, more impersonal language schools, I've realized I vastly prefer the friendly, welcoming environment and highly personalized attention of a small school. As a woman traveling alone, having that type of support feels especially important. I almost don't want to give Livit the rave review it deserves, because I don't want it to grow too much. I loved the fact that it's so small and intimate. For example, it was great to eat lunch family-style with all the students and the owners of the school every day. Fortunately, the owners assured me that they have a plan in place to limit growth if needed in order to preserve the cozy atmosphere that only a small family-run school can offer. I was lucky enough to have Maru, one of the owners of the school, as my teacher for the two weeks I was there. She is an outstanding instructor and helped me brush up my Spanish where it was most needed. From what I observed the other teachers were also all extremely qualified. This contrasted with another Mexican school I attended which charged less but often employed relatively inexperienced teachers. Having a highly qualified teacher makes a big difference. I also enjoyed Livit's creative, fun approach to language learning. The four hours of daily instruction were mixed up with a wide variety of activities and games to keep things interesting. There were cute little labels on many things at the school with the object's Spanish name like "jabón para manos" or "el espejo." When it was time to order coffee or pizza for the school, students even got to practice their real-life Spanish by volunteering to make these phone calls. As an advanced (C1 level) student, it's often been difficult for the schools I've attended to find other students at the same level for a group class. My first week at Livit I shared class with one other student, but the second week I received private instruction for the price of a group class. I really appreciated that Livit did not cut the daily instruction hours from four to three as other schools often do when there is only one student in a group class. The school is located in a beautiful historic home that Maru and Scott remodeled and live in themselves with their friendly rescue dog Beluga, adding to the family atmosphere. The property includes two small but very nicely outfitted apartments students can rent if they prefer not to do a homestay. The school is about a 15-minute walk from Puebla's main plaza. My homestay was fantastic; the best I have experienced. My hostess Lupita was a wonderful and caring person, a patient conversationalist, and an excellent cook. We enjoyed many long chats that helped improve my Spanish. After a while I did really miss being able to prepare my own breakfast and dinner, though, and so on my next visit I would consider staying in one of the on-site self-catering apartments. You also can't beat the convenience of living just upstairs when going to class in the mornings! Monday, Wednesday, and Friday we enjoyed a delicious homemade lunch of traditional Mexican food made by Maru's mom. We ate family-style in the kitchen or in the lovely garden, weather permitting. Tuesdays there was an outing to a local restaurant to sample typical Poblano cuisine, like tacos arabes or cemitas. Thursdays a filling packed lunch was eaten in the van en route to our afternoon excursion. Monday through Wednesday we spent two hours each afternoon with our guía (guide), a local university student. Many activities were possible with the guía: visiting historic sites or museums, touring a ceramic workshop, or just sitting and chatting in a café or bar. The main goal was practicing conversation in a fun, relaxed way. The Thursday excursions led by Scott to nearby destinations were a lot of fun. Scott is a laid-back, spontaneous guy and an amazing fount of information about contemporary Mexican culture and language. I really enjoyed hearing his long-time expat's perspective. Traveling by car gave us the opportunity to visit quirky off-the-beaten-path places, my favorite kind of outing. I was lucky enough to be in Mexico during Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) and one of our excursions was to a small pueblo famous for its altars. A fascinating cultural experience that would have been very difficult to do alone due to lack of public transport. Puebla itself is gorgeous and offers a wealth of attractions. Unfortunately, many historic structures in Puebla and nearby towns were damaged in the September 2017 earthquake and temporarily closed, but there still remained such a diversity of things to see and do that I never felt a lack. I'm already planning my return to Puebla and to Livit! read more

Livit is a great school both in person and online. I've been taking classes online with them for several months, and I really enjoy that option. Classes in person are great! This is a well-run school with enthusiastic teachers. The program is professional but delightful. A few days before I arrived, I chatted by phone for 15 or 20 minutes with Scott (owner, with wife, Maru). His assessment must have been fairly accurate because the small group I was placed in the first day was exactly the right level for what I needed. My second and third week, I was the only one in the class since I was apparently the only student at my level. Having a private teacher turned out to be great, but I initially had some hesitancy about not having any other students in my group. I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago--on another subject--and the one-on-one did not give me the interaction that a small group can. However, my "private tutor" at Livit, Luis, got it right. The food--as the other reviews have said again and again--was excellent. I can't add much to their reviews except to say that it's all true. How lunch was served is also a small example of how well-managed this school is. One or more of the three central family members who own the school made it a point to stay present during the entire lunch. This wasn't awkward--they are all three delightful--and I didn't even realize they were intentionally doing it until the day before I left. What it meant to have them there was that if the conversation lagged, or there were introverted students, they were there to subtly act as host. And it meant that people asked if they were saying things correctly in Spanish, and people could ask where we were going for that week on the excursion, and so on. I realize this is a tiny example, but it is an example of how much thought the owners have put into the school. I stayed in an Airbnb my first week and then moved to the room at the school. The room at Livit was delightful: clean, well-decorated, well-stocked kitchen for easy meals, nicely cleaned twice a week, and obviously an easy commute to class. I felt safe in the central area of the city. I enjoyed the weekly excursions and the food and the surprises (one morning all the classes walked together to the Mercado a block away for breakfast; one day for lunch, instead of eating at the school, we went to a well-known Mexican roasted chicken fast food chain restaurant--which was delicious btw). All of this obviously added to the experience. But what I came for and, for me, what was most important, was the teaching. It was excellent. Professional and subtly sophisticated. The right mix of conversation with gentle corrections, reading comprehension, grammar, explanation of words that came up and have multiple meanings. High quality. I had been planning to go to some other city in Mexico in 4 or 5 months for some more Spanish. Livit was so well-done, however, that I'm thinking about going back there. I would never have thought I would say that because I would like to continue seeing different parts of the country. Compared with my Puebla experience, though, other language institutes may well be a disappointment. read more

I spent a week at Livit Immersion Center and couldn't be more impressed. The owners, Scott and Maru, are very hands-on and really want the students to be successful. Even though we were encouraged to speak Spanish all of the time, it was extremely helpful that the teachers are able to speak English, especially when explaining a difficult concept. We had four hours of lessons each day and were broken up based on our levels of ability to speak Spanish. At lunch all of the teachers and students came together to socialize and get to know each other. After lunch, each student was paired up with a personalized guide. My guide, Emilia, was fantastic. She took me everywhere I wanted to go and knew a lot of facts about the city. She was also very patient with my broken Spanish. The homestay arranged for me by the school was also great. The lady who owned the house, Lupita, was an excellent cook. She is a retired kindergarten teacher so she was very patient and spoke slowly when I needed her to repeat something. I have been to two other immersion programs, one in Oaxaca and one in Antigua, Guatemala, and this was by far the best of the three. Some of the students stayed on for two or three weeks and I was jealous because I would love to do the same. Hopefully, I can return again next year. read more

My husband and I were recommended Livit Spanish Immersion program by an acquaintance who used to run a Spanish immersion school of her own - she said she trusted Livit to do a good job for people she recommends in their direction. Her assessment is correct! Scott and Maru and their team run a terrific program! My husband and I each had a phone conversation with Maru prior to our attendance - this little 'interview' was not at all stressful, simply an evaluation tool for them to place us in a class with an appropriate level of learning. The classes are small, thus there is opportunity for personal attention to individual questions! The school itself is impeccably clean, a renovated house with several classrooms, a truly comfortable and inviting space. We have to comment on the lunches! Maru's mother, Flor, prepared lunch for us at the school, wow. Wholesome, healthy goodness, comida deliciosa! Scott and Maru and their staff were constantly available and interacting among the students, employing and encouraging us to use our Spanish, no matter our level of knowledge. Weekly 'field trips' as a group to sites in the area, and individual time one-on-one time with our guides during the week - a lot of opportunity to explore and employ what we were learning. We spent 3 weeks with Livit Immersion in Puebla in October 2022. We can definitely recommend Scott and Maru and the entire Livit team to anyone wishing to learn / improve their level of Spanish! If you are learning to take your spanish to the next level, look no further! This immersion program is excellent - I had such a great experience and will be going back. I have been taking on-line lessons for a while, but was struggling with actual conversing. I looked for immersion programs and was shocked how expensive they were! Livit is affordable - much lower than other programs. The school is in a house and the wonderful staff make you feel right at home the minute you arrive. The mornings are spent in classroom work with other students of your level. Then - lunch! - three times a week it is cooked by chef Flora - wonderful, homestyle Mexican cooking. The afternoons you are paired with your own personal guide to head out and about in the city to do what you like and work on everyday conversation. At the end of the week, one afternoon is spent on a field trip with all the students - very fun! The city of Puebla is beautiful and the people are warm and friendly. There are buses (pretty much on the half hour or hour) that leave Mexico City airport and bring you right to the city. A short Uber ride rom the bus depot and you'll be where you need to go. They can help with lodging or you can look for your own Airbnb etc. I cannot say enough good things about this school, their teachers and their program and am looking forward to going back! read more

LIVIT is an excellent school and its owners Scott and Maru are lovely people. I recently completed two weeks at LIVIT and my very basic Spanish is now much stronger, strong enough that I was able to engage and have reasonable conversations with my LIVIT guides (after school hour college graduates who spend two hours nearly each day speaking with students) with other Puebla residents, and my Chilean son in law, who gives me high compliments! LIVIT is a low key, fun school and its excellent teachers take teaching Spanish very seriously, all the while creating an upbeat and relaxed environment. Many of the students complete the total language learning process by living with Mexican families, others in local apartments or in the 2 onsite apartments which are very comfortable and make the school experience in Puebla very convenient. All of the students who lived with Mexican families while I was in Puebla had very nice experiences. Puebla is a very interesting, accessible and beautiful city, LIVIT is both a serious and fun place to learn Spanish. I highly recommend both. read more

Over the years, I have attended several Spanish immersion programs in both Mexico and Argentina, and Livit Immersion Center was by far the best. I participated in the four-hour morning instruction and my husband and I stayed in an on-site private apartment (more about that below). The full program offers lunch, two hours in the afternoon with guides to practice conversation and visit places in the interesting and historic City of Pueblo, a weekly excursion, and a homestay with a local family. The teachers at Livit are excellent. The school itself is bright and welcoming and comfortable. My husband, who speaks Spanish, and is a linguistic anthropologist, reported that he has seen a greater improvement in my Spanish than ever before. The whole atmosphere of the school is relaxed and permission is given to speak Spanish as best you can without feeling uncomfortable. At the same time, the lessons are aimed at speaking Spanish well, with a variety of activities and drills. Given that I seem to have a second language learning and speaking disability, I really appreciated the patience of the teachers. I also took the online classes offered by Livit via Skype for three days a week for a month prior to arriving in Puebla, and am currently taking a one day a week class since returning. I highly recommend these classes. They would be an excellent way for people who cannot travel to Puebla for the immersion program to learn or improve their Spanish. My instructor was very good at identifying my strengths and weaknesses and creating an individual program for me. The onsite apartment where my husband and I stayed while I took classes at Livit was great. The apartment was quite private and very quiet, especially since Mexico, in general, can be pretty noisy. It was located at the back of the main house and language school facility, all of which is on a private street. The apartment is reached from outside steps off a lovely side garden, and had an automatic light at night. While small, the space was very well designed. The lower floor has a nicely equipped kitchen with good counter space and a clever dropdown table, and a little sitting area with a comfortable couch, TV, and a good-sized worktable. The upstairs included a bedroom with lots of storage areas, and an enclosed. The apartment is light and airy and attractive, with lots of windows and a skylight, and you can see "Popo," the volcano, outside the bedroom window. There is another smaller accommodation for guests at the front of the property. The area felt very safe, and was only a couple of blocks from the Plaza del Carmen, which is a pleasant leafy place to hang out, surrounded by a couple of coffee shops and an excellent ice cream store, with a zillion flavors. read more

My wife, Maru, and I run the school and love teaching Spanish, getting to know our students and sharing the culture of Central Mexico. The program has a good balance of Spanish language, culture, history, nature and world-famous FOOD (Puebla has several world-famous dishes like Mole Poblano, Chiles en Nogada, Cemitas, Tacos Árabes, and Pipian, to name a few).
Review Highlights - Livit
“I was lucky enough to have Maru, one of the owners of the school, as my teacher for the two weeks I was there.”

I had a great experience here. The teachers are excellent and the whole program is engaging. There is interaction with different native speakers, accelerating the learning process. The school organizers are very supportive and encouraging. Livit is located in the heart of Puebla and I appreciated that Spanish is heard everywhere you go, versus in Mexico City where I heard alot of English being spoken. I stayed in the upstairs apartment at the school, but there are many other options within easy walking distance. If you are searching for an excellent school and cultural experience, Livit can't be beat! read more

What an adventure! The two week immersion program I did with Livit was amazing. The classroom lessons (in very small groups) was tailored to what I needed. The teachers were so knowledgeable and so helpful. The food was an mazing window on Mexican cuisine, the guides after classes offered a fantastic opportunity to get to know Puebla. The school outings were so interesting and fun. Am definitely going back to further my learning of the language. Would recommend Livit to anyone interested to learn Spanish. Martine Q. read more
