My mother and I attended this lovely church in Mount Vernon, IL. My mom was invited to this church by various people in Mount Vernon from a worker at her assisted living facility to a young child she met at Vacation Bible School in another church.
We were greeted warmly by almost everyone in the church. As we entered the church we were met by the Pastor's wife Iris and various others including the Pastor, Elder Allen Rudd, that stopped some cleaning tasks to welcome us. The church has a very large campus that includes a former school. The sanctuary was fairly large with a large stage across the back with musical equipment in the front and toward one side. Comfortable seats were well spaced allowing my mother's walker to be used and stored by her seat.
The Sunday service was a scheduled two hours (11:00am to 1:00pm) with the last 30 to 40 minutes for the sermon. Praise and worship time dominated the first part of the service with skilled musicians and singers leading the congregation in praise songs and special music.
Visitors were asked to fill out a card as they entered the church and were welcomed individually later in the service which helped the congregation to know the visitors and to make them feel welcome throughout the service.
The church ministered to various members and it was obvious that there are people being helped/healed from various afflictions like drug addiction and health issues.
The music was well done with the singers blending well with good harmonies and live music from keyboards, guitars and drums used by the praise band. The pastor clearly knew his way around a base guitar and also had a lovely voice.
The sermon was great and based on scripture and the congregation, individuals and the pastor read passages at different points in the service and sermon.
The services are also streamed live on Facebook and the church has a Facebook page with pictures and former services that can be watched.
The church is filled with all age groups from younger children through seniors with all groups serving in various ways from greeting to music to videoing the service.
Food is available at the beginning and end of the services for those who want/need it.
We were impressed with the church, it welcomed all races equally and is providing a critical ministry to the Mount Vernon area. We look forward to attending the friendly church again where God is alive and working. read more
