Futureworks is a leading media training facility in Manchester which offers courses in everything…read morefrom game design to sound recording. Futureworks offers short, fast-track and diploma courses as well as degree equivalent qualifications in a range of disciplines and technologies. The rates aren't the cheapest in town (you can get short courses in some of the same software and technologies cheaper at The Manchester College) but I think they're fairly priced and are worth the money. I've been here for one of their short editing courses and thought it was great. The staff were really attentive and didn't just shout out instructions as they do in some other training centres. They mixed lecturing and demonstration with hands-on practice and one to one discussions, which I found useful as I felt I was falling behind but was a bit embarrassed to ask for help. The centre itself is easy to find (just at the end of Oxford Road before the Central Library) and has state of the art facilties and equipment. The whole place is very shiney and modern and is so covered in buttons and gadgets it feels a bit like you're in the future...perhaps thats why the call it Futureworks....

I have been to this school when I was small and they provide good education that you children needs in a way that doesn't pressurize them and creates an environment. That is good for them so they learn at their pace and there are also many activities available after school which are very beneficial for the kids in terms of academic and also educational skills, they also set some interactive and group work which helps a lot and also organize many various themes to help the kids learn.

Elaine the…read moretutor is very knowledgeable, explains everything very thoroughly and is always happy to go over anything more than once if there is something you are struggling with. Charmian the assessor is also amazing at her job, from making you feel so comfortable when she comes to the practice to observe to marking workbooks and always giving lots of feedback on what you did well and what you need to improve on. They both made getting the qualification so much easier and I can't thank them enough. Glenn the managing director of the academy is equally as helpful as Elaine and Charmian. Glenn has always been happy to help me with any queries regarding the course and got back to me so quickly any time I emailed. I started the course with very little knowledge on dental nursing and have come out a qualified dental nurse and I couldn't have done it without the academy. I couldn't recommend them enough!

Split across two levels, the CSV Media Clubhouse operates as a training centre for children and adults alike, teaching vocational skills in filmmaking, radio, editing, television and sound production. Courses are free for people who have difficulty finding work, or for young people who have trouble in a traditional academic system. The centre itself is pretty rundown but has good equipment and excellent staff - they seem to focus their limited finances on getting the best out of their students rather than other media training centres which promote a swishy wipe-clean image. The staff are exceptional - teaching to a very high standard with limited resources and sometimes difficult students.

I would go as far as to say that the University of Manchester careers Service is one of the best…read morethings about the University. If you want direction in your career they will provide it for you. Not only do they allow you access to hundreds of great jobs, graduate programs and internships, they'll actually meet you if you book a one to one session and sort your life out for you. Personally I'm doing a masters, but so many of my friends are now in careers, almost all of which they got onto through this wonderful service. If you're like me though, and don't need a career just yet, they still provide services for you. They have hundreds of great part time jobs advertised through the careers service, so that businesses can get students or graduates of Manchester University to fill their posts. In fact, its how I got my job for Yelp (which is amazing)!! Its also a great place to advertise jobs if you run a business because you can guarantee that all the applicants will be graduates of a top class university. A wonderful service that works to benefit all parties, I too am thankful that I have access to this joyous opportunity!

I've made use of the literature, the newspapers, the information booklets, the CV help service, the psychometric tests books, all a lot of good information. However they run a mock interview session if you get a job interview but never seem to have any sessions free. They insist that you have an interview secured before you can make an appointment but most of the time interviews are short notice and I'm always always missing out. However the advisors are pretty good on giving general advice and for giving you a confidence boost and you can really tell that they want you to genuinely get the job. There's many talks and information sessions to attend and you get the regular emails to inform you of the new things going on as a current student. There are actually forums and blogs that you can keep up to date with if you're a fan of the online. Overall having the careers service there gives me the confidence that I'll get somewhere as a University of Manchester graduate. Thank god.

In my opinion the premier Secondary School in Bolton! Spent a brilliant 5 years of my life here…read moredaily (7 if you include 6th form) and I thoroughly enjoyed my time! Since leaving school, I've developed a massive level of respect for teachers. I think as a child you can overlook the stress that your behaviour can put on them, magnify that by 30 in each class, and you're looking at one stressed teacher. I was always personally fairly well behaved - my mum was a teacher, so I took it a little easy on them - but some of my class mates, blimey! The teaching staff were great and did fantastically well not to lose their temper with some of the antics that went on! The school itself underwent many makeovers during my time, and I still live just a stones throw away so can see changes still happening - in a positive way though. A safe, responsible environment to send your adolescents to!
