Fabulous haven for a frightened, tornado-avoiding couple from MI just here to pick up some DVDs from a local manufacturer! In a hundred year old downtown building, Little Sheba's, like everywhere in Richmond, has a friendly, warm staff that makes you feel like you're among friends. Their bar has been in for only a year but like all small town local bars, the drinks are strong! I had a couple of 7&7's and that tornado-y weather was a fuzzy memory by the time we got back on the road to go back north (I was the passenger- the driver only drank Diet Coke!). One of us had the Dani's Reuben: "Loads of corned beef, Swiss cheese, and kraut. Topped with Thousand Island dressed. Served on Dark Rye bread." He says: "YUMMY! Good corned beef, quite filling." He also had the homemade potato salad, which he ate first and enjoyed immensely. I had the Freddy's Back: "Loads of turkey, roast beef, and Swiss cheese. Topped with lettuce, tomato, bacon and mayo. Served on Dark Rye bread." It was absolutely delicious! We shared the baked Jalapeno Poppers, which were tasty and marvelous. We will be back! This time we will not go on a tornado day! read more

My time with Little Sheeba's lasted about 7 months spanning from Fall '13 to Spring '14. Little Sheeba's is a local "All-American" bar/restaurant. It checks all the boxes, from the spooky Halloween decor to the possibly defunct food truck. My first visit was on accident. My brother took me there after meaning to take me to the now gone "Pete's Cafe", formerly across the street. Richmond is a small, post industrial town, and the discovery of a local restaurant appeared to be a great find. It comes complete with obnoxious musicians and karaoke nights, as if these were not all available next door in one of the many bars in the depot district. The next week I took my girlfriend out to dinner there, and we were seated and waited on by a charming waiter who recommended the Greek Pizza and specifically recommended getting a SIDE of tzatziki (greek yogurt) sauce. The pizza was good, although a few dollars more than what I would have expected. The tzatziki sauce was incredibly important, because the pizzas are a bit greasy, salty, and yet somehow bland. The tzatziki sauce is one of the few redeeming qualities to the Greek Pizza. I talked with this waiter about Greek and American food, and it was clear that he, like myself, was passionate about food. Unfortunately, much of the menu is not up to the price it commands. Many of the sandwiches are overdone and yet boring. Everything is $3-4 too much. There are tons of offerings, all with "fun" names, none of which have anything to do with the food. Despite all of this, it was the best time we ever had at Little Sheebas. Since then, we have returned to Little Sheeba's in the hopes of finding to our first waiter. However, we have never seen him again, and instead usually found to an empty entry area. If we are seated at all, it is usually in a loud or cold space. It makes both my girlfriend and me uncomfortable and feel like second-class patrons. Other nights we seat ourselves and eventually flag down a waitress who seems practically annoyed by our presence there. There often is only one waitress, and getting service can take a while. The wait for the food can be long as well, probably because the food gets brought out by one of the cooks, who are usually around the restaurant and not cooking for other customers. You have to ask for refills and mistakes are common in our orders. This means that getting our food as we asked ends up taking precedence over the rest of our evening. Meanwhile, getting a check can be quite a wait, as we watch other customers take orders and hope that whatever cook brought our food is getting a fair tip as well. Every visit since our first has been slightly more disappointing. This is a restaurant to visit once, and never again. They have what is called a "captive audience", one that desires local food at any cost (price, quality of service). I don't blame the waitress nor the cooks. Having worked in a similar restaurant myself, it is clear that they are understaffed and under poor management. I hope for the sake of the patrons that they hire more staff, reduce unfavorable seating, and limit the menu to a few core dishes you can do uniquely and well. Fun vibe, HUGE Menu with lots of good food for very reasonable prices. I had the big mess sandwhich and it was great, my dad (current traveling companion) and the pork chop special and at it all so I think he liked it. Nothing fancy, just yummy. We ordered pretzel bites, a French dip, and a Cosmo. The Cosmo was very good and very reasonably priced. It also came out in a timely manner. That's where things started to go south. We did waste a bit of time ordering (the menu is quite large and the names of the sandwiches don't reflect the ingredients, so it was a lot of reading). However that is no excuse for it taking an entire HOUR (!!!!) for our APPETIZER to come out. We asked our server for updates a number of times. It's a really big place, but it did not seem overly busy. There were a number of other grumpy patrons around as well that seemed to be having a similar experience. The food was actually not too bad. The pretzel bites were a bit simple but I actually really kind of liked them. Good flavor, probably needed a bit more coarse salt, but again I liked them. They came with a fairly generic Nacho cheese sauce, nothing to write home about. The French dip did come out not too long after the pretzel bites. The bread was good and perfectly grilled. The meat was well flavored, maybe slightly over, but over all pretty good. I think I would have given a higher ranking if the service hadn't been so bad. read more

Considering the type of restaurant, I had expected to easily find several vegetarian options on the menu. Nope. I ended up with a fancy macaroni and cheese dish, which was quite tasty. My sister ordered the bottomless spaghetti, though, and didn't even make it to the bottom of the first plate - she said the sauce was mediocre and disappointing. In retrospect, I also wish we had requested to sit at a booth; the high table and stools we were seated at ended up being rather uncomfortable for the duration (and business was light that evening, so there were plenty of booths available -- not sure why we weren't seated at one by default). read more

First of all, let it be said that the menu at Little Sheba's is huge. And everything is pretty cheap. I really enjoyed the dinner I had here last night. I got the Sheba Burger and was duly impressed. I was directed to Little Sheba's by a high school principal who told me I /had/ to go to Little Sheba's. I, of course, usually think that some people just tell me a place that's average is amazing because it's the best in town. I visit a lot of small hometown places, and I must tell you, this place was amazing and quite possibly at the top of the list in it's class. Atmosphere: coffeeshop feel, even though it also has a bar room. Food Menu: "Over 40 signature sandwiches," pizza, burgers, and soups. I was in Richmond, IN for 5 days, and I ate there 4 of the 5 days. The food is great. For my first meal, I had to order a Stupid Idiot. You just HAVE to try something with a name like that. "John Boy's Stupid Idiot: You're no idiot if you try this one! Piled high with lots of ham, turkey and roast beef topped with Feta cheese, mild banana peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, onions, and Italian dressing on a grilled sub bun." The meal was extremely filling with very fresh tasting meat, on a very fresh bun. Every sandwich I ate had the same freshness to it. This place is a must try. Steve and Renee are extremely friendly, and at least one of them is usually there during the day. Stop in, tell them where you're from, and tell them what you think. The menu is fun and filled with delicious items, some named after well known people of Richmond. The sandwiches are creatively structured, the pizzas are mouthwatering, and the atmosphere is fun for any age. This is a Richmond institution. My favorite sandwich is the Miss Girdley's Greek Turkey and you have to try their potato salad! It it located in the historic depot district. It's been a few years since I've been to Little Sheba's, but from what I remember, it was really good. I ate meat back then, & had the gyro. I loved their tzatziki sauce & it came with a delicious kosher dill. The place kind of reminds me of a deli gone Greek. Inexpensive prices too. This is my favorite joint in Richmond. Great food and decent prices. I always try different sandwiches on the menu. So far, I think the flame thrower is my favorite. Roast beef, cheese, bacon, and jalapenos. The spoiled rotten brat is also delicious. I always order it with mustard instead of bleu cheese - but it comes with turkey and ham on a sub - it's pretty basic but it's really good. The itallian stallion and the airhead are also favorites. The airhead is MESSY though - cream cheese and bbq sauce. I went thru half a dozen napkins. My absolute favorite thing on the menu are the bosco sticks. Those things are phenomenal. My husband and I decided to have a late lunch on a day trip we had taken and found ourselves treated with great service and attentiveness! The owner, Steve, greeted us when we arrived, and Renee made sure our service was impeccable. Both our food and beverages were freshly made and delicious. Without asking, we were surprised by a free dessert by the owner - prompting me to abandon my healthy lunch and indulge! I had a great experience here. I searched yelp looking for a place to stop for dinner on a drive from st. Louis to new York. Little Sheba was right off the highway and well in our price range. The service was very personal and there was a surprising amount of variety on the menu. Food was delcious and fast. I only givebit four stars because the gyro I got was really small and didn't fill me up. But still, it tasted fresh and quite good. read more

I have been to Little Sheba's tons of times as a Richmond native, and I usually don't have much to complain about when it comes to the subject of their food. However, their service has always been less than satisfactory. They rarely have more than 2 or 3 waitresses working at a time. They are stretched so thin that refills are often neglected and wait times are horrendous. My fiancee and I had to wait almost 10 minutes tonight just to have our order taken. A family of four who came in a few minutes after us had placed their order and received their appetizer before our waitress ever even took our order. We were about to walk out when she finally asked us what we would be having. By the time we got our appetizer, the family of four was almost finished eating their meal. Did I mention that we only saw our waitress twice? The first time was when she took our order; the second was when she collected our money. A person from the kitchen brought our appetizer and a DIFFERENT person brought our meal, so there was barely any interaction with the server. Plus, we never got any refills. As far as the food was concerned, it was mediocre. The side of cottage cheese that I ordered was warm and the pita bread on my Abby's Veggiemite was stale. Little Sheba's may be eclectic and charming, but if you are looking for quality food and service, I would not recommend it. read more
