There is green space and walking trails, tennis courts and a playground, shelters and areas to explore. But there are also consistent reminders of the thoughts and legacy left to us all by the late Dr. King. The playground is a recently renovated space done in partnership with the '15 & the Mahomies' Foundation, the community-focused group backed by the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes. Safe, new equipment with a soft surface makes for all kinds of playtime fun for the littles. Getting outside, with cooperative weather, has always been a wonderful way to spend family time and this playground offers exactly the kind of fun atmosphere in which to enjoy that time. The area is lined to the south with paved walking paths and sidewalks, plenty of space and very accessible. You are just a mile or so from the Plaza, the UMKC campus, and more. This is a green space tucked in a beautiful area with lots of historical and cultural significance. We should all be so fortunate to not only use the space but remember of the legacy of the man who inspired its name.

It's nestled between Union Station and Crown Center and if you aren't familiar with it you can get a good view from the Link. I've walked through and around this park a ton. When I worked in the Crossroads walking by this park was on my regular rotation of my mid-day lunch walk. I'm only giving it 3/5 stars because despite being a well planned and landscaped park with an impressive statue, it just never felt super safe to me. I don't know if it's because I'm a woman, but I always felt much safer just walking the streets of the crossroads midday rather than taking a chance through this park. It just isn't super populated and on a few occasions I saw some drug deals going down, which just sort of put me on edge. I tend to feel overall safe in most parts of KC midday so the vibes here are just a bit off I think since it's just a less utilized green space in the city. All of that being said, I'm not trying to deter folks from going, and I'm rooting for this little city park. Whether its future holds a new stadium, or if it stays a nice hidden green space, either would be great - I do think it could use a bit more love from the city, just to attract more people and make it a bit more inviting for the general public for picnics and joggers to liven up the space and make it more inviting.
