Small Meze platter! Delicious things here
    Christoph N.

We had a very great experience at Little Georgia! This place was advised by...Our landlords! Yep, that kind of landlords that prepare a nice list of things & to see in the neighbourhood ;) So, Georgian food eh? Well this was clearly a first and to be honest, before writing this review, I couldn't precisely pin Georgia on a map :) done, it's by the black sea, just above Turkey (FYI). Alright, so the food. You can definitely recognise some Greek influence (Meze platter was delightful) but in a sense, this is even more...kind of "comfort food", more heavy. Those meze are generally eaten with local cheesy breads, very good. Those roasted aubergines in tomato sauce, yummy, and so simple. Grilled meat is also something they love, and I've rarely tasted such a lamb kebab. All in all, great discovery, & good value for money. Nothing super fancy, but just great comfort winter food :)

I really love this little place and I keep meaning to go back. The food is great, and the fact that it is cooked in an open style kitchen gives it a very homely vibe. I went a few months ago, around the time when the conflict broke out in Georgia. Being an authentic Georgian restaurant, the majority of people there, both staff and customers seemed to be quite anxious as a result of the conflict. This did not affect the service however, and it was nice to be in an environment where people were supporting each other, all the while maintaining a hospitable manner towards the customers. The restaurant is not licensed and you are allowed to bring your own drinks. I really recommend going as it is a bona fide Georgian experience.

I rack my brains to think of something bad to say about Little Georgia and repeatedly come up with zilch... You are served by a real family in a setting tastefully and reservedly decorated with lots of wacky soviet-era design icons. Lighting is lovely. There are little tables outside for watching the world go by on summer evenings, and large tables downstairs for party groups. You can bring your own wine which is not subject to a corking fee, plus the bills tend to be ridiculously cheap. Oh yes, and the food is amazing, homey, comforting and different. Try the hachapuri - bread pockets filled with a soft, flavoursome cheese - or the lobiani, or any of the beetroot-flavoured dishes. One slight and very gentle criticism? I tend to stick to sharing a couple of starters or a mezze rather than order the mains as I have never found them particularly inspiring. But apart from that, absolutely nothing.

Little Georgia is a slice of Georgia (the country not the state) in the heart of Hackney. Right up the street from Hackney City Farm, this quaint lil' cafe (i.e. unlicensed) provides hearty fare at a reasonable price. The only gotcha to the place is that it is shut on Mondays but besides that the food is great. Loved the mixed mezze which included assorted spicey salads from red cabbage to spinach and also included hachapuri bread (filled with cheese). The follow up main of bean casserole with smoked sausage was also great and gone in no time at all! If you want to get a table, you have to book, so don't imagine you can turn up and snag a quick meal. Definitely worth the jaunt up from Old Street or elsewhere and feel free to get totally stuffed :)

The khachapuri was delicious, as it always is, and the eggplant and red pepper dish and the borscht were both musts.

I got the bangers and mash while by wife got the cottage pie. I think I got the better meal as the sausages were really tasty and the whole grain mustard in the potatoes was a great way to elevate the potatoes. Her cottage pie was fine but didn't have a ton of flavor. Food came out surprisingly quickly, but we also had an order of chips which was crazy slow to come out of the kitchen. The chips were quite good but we'd both finished our entire meals and most of our beers by the time we got them. Beer options were solid, some good German choices. Beer was cheap too.

This place is not trying to play up on an image like many of the bars in this areas and sticks instead to the important business of being a damn fine pub. Being quite small there is a naturally cosy feel to the place and this is complimented by the decor wuth lots of wood panelling and comfy seats. The bar has a great selection of draft and bottled beers and, for the summer months, there is an excellent beer garden. I've yet to try the food but they do serve traditional pub grub between 12 and 5 Tuesday through Sunday. With a great atmosphere, warm and friendly bar staff and an excellent range of drinks, The Carpenters Arms is a brilliant place for a relaxing evening or a great stop-in after a hard days shop.

However, it was a whopping 93 GBP for 600g, which is meant to share between 2 people, but still not that much (refer to my pic). This is simply just too high of a price for this. Bone marrow and onions (12 GBP) - This was surprisingly good. Although the marrow itself didn't have much of a flavor, it was a nice buttery consistency to spread on the bread. The onions were cooked very well. Sticky Toffee Pudding (9.50 GBP) - This was more of a bread like dessert than a pudding, but was tasty and not overly sweet despite the toffee (which is good). The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive. The service speed is pretty quick. The interior is decorated in a nice yet not too pretentious steakhouse style. There were still plenty of open tables available on a Sunday night. Overall, while the steak and food are very good, the steak is simply too overpriced to justify me getting it again. Maybe worth trying once but not twice. I would potentially come back for the other menu options though.

They are located just outside downtown London and near the financial district. After a long underground ride, we arrived at a classic looking British pub. We were seated downstairs in a very busy dining hall that looked like a proper hunting lodge kitchen. For Christmas eve, the place was packed with large groups celebrating the holidays. We ordered the sea snails with garlic / butter and sourdough, and deer tartar with game chips, mustard, bone marrow and toast. These were good and had a very rustic flare. For dinner, I ordered the red legged partridge, spelt, njuda and kale. The partridge was tough and not much flavor. The spelt and njuda was fantastic and a real flavor bomb. My first spelt encounter but definitely not the last. The kale was fine. The meal was solid but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere and setting was good along with the service. I'm glad we tried a standard English pub but not impressed by the food. Regardless of the meal, it was still a great family memory.

We arrived with plenty of time and finished our main course with time too but then dessert inexplicably took a while. No servers came over to help and we had to get up to express the fact that our show -- again we ordered from the pre theatre menu and told them of our plans -- started in 15 mins. They finally came over with the dessert which we had to scarf down instead of getting the refund of dessert. Wasn't worth the fight but ruined an otherwise good meal. The burger was terrific for example. They also sat us at a weird table in the back that was difficult for the servers to get to and had sound reverberate so the loud table next to us just dominated the sound in the room. Just shows that a meal needs to have more than a good food to be enjoyable.
