This place has some amazing ice cream. Of course the waffles are just as good but I come here solely for their ice cream. The consistency and richness of the ice cream is really what makes the difference. Their waffle combos are also very decent with many variations with Nutella, fruits, whip cream and so on. The waffles here are delicious but I'm going to suggest something that may be a little controversial: hold off on the ice cream. The waffle is so good on its own - slightly crispy on the outside, chewy and substantial on the inside, plenty sweet on its own thanks to the pearl sugar in the batter. Similarly, churro-style sounds excessively sweet (though I didn't try it). The drinks complement the waffles nicely (iced green tea, etc.). I can't believe it took me four years to get here! The smell is so heavenly every time you pass, so it's a wonder how I was able to resist. My churroffle was less than $4 and a really good size; it's the perfect dessert for the slight crunch of the sugar and the soft, sweet dough. I can imagine that more toppings can get really sweet, but choose to your tastes. I'd say the prices are pretty good considering a single scoop of icecream in Berkeley/SF can be upwards of $5. I'm pretty conflicted in writing this review so I would rate it a solid 3 / 5! AMBIANCE/FOOD SAFETY: (1.5 / 5) My first time visiting this place (upon the adamant suggestion of a friend), I almost refused to eat my waffle. I was 99% sure I was going to get food poisoning (for the record, I did not). As the kitchen is exposed, it gives you a clear view of trash and dirty dishes. On top of that, the cashier and "cook" frequently trade spots, all while sporting the same gloves. Not very hygienic. FOOD (4/5) The waffles are good! Very warm, gooey, and taste great with their toppings. As I mentioned before, adds a nice option to the other desserts that are offered in the area. SERVICE (3.5/5) Friendly people, can be a bit slow as it's usually a two person operation and they make their waffles from scratch. OVERALL: Had I not known the store conditions, and ordered off of uber eats (which they offer), I would have loved this place! Location/Parking:: Located right by the UC Berkeley campus on Telegraph Ave, you can either find street parking (pay meter) or there are some garages nearby. However, don't expect to find parking in front of this place. Interior:: Not very much seating inside, 2 tables and a few counter seats. A plus to this place is that they have the menu posted pretty big on the side so while you wait in line, you can figure out what you want to order. The place itself is pretty clean and well kept, the only thing I would say is that the tables can be sticky sometimes because of the ice cream. Service:: Quick and speedy service here. You order what you want and they make it pretty quick for you. When I ordered, it only took 3-5 minutes and poof, it was out! Usually there is only one person working so the line can be long, but when I came there was two people which I think is a good idea. One person to take orders and another to make the waffles. Food:: -Waffle Throttle: Churro waffle with cinnamon along with a honey milk ice cream on top! This was delicious!!! The waffle was cooked perfectly where it was a little crispy on the sides, but the inside was moist. The proportion of the waffle and the cinnamon was great because the cinnamon wasn't too much. Found myself in the area after a Korean meal in Albany (restaurant name starts with a B and ends in "owl'd"). I love the smell of waffles cooking...whether it's a Belgium waffle or as a waffle cone, the sweet aroma is comforting to my olfactory bulb (a.k.a. the nose segment of the brain). The menu is rather extensive for waffles and it took a moment to decide, but we ultimately went with Ruby Sky, which consisted of strawberries, whipped cream, and a scoop of ice cream (any flavor of your choosing - I picked milk & honey). The consistency and taste of the waffle was great, and the size was significantly larger than I expected for a Belgium waffle to generally be. The strawberries were freshly sliced and sweet, a nice textural contrast to the waffle and ice cream. Milk & honey tasted just how it sounds like it would...sweet, creamy, and the honey was apparent in every bite. Overall, this was a yummy dessert, but it wasn't THE best waffle I've had and I was slightly disappointed that they had sold out of a couple of ice cream flavors in the middle of the day. Not super pricey, and definitely not cheap. They are open late and there's parking on the street outside. Seating space is limited, so it's not ideal for large groups. The food can't really be taken to-go since it would get soggy and nasty, but the portions aren't too intense. I ordered the Crown Jewel which has Creme de Gem (whipped cream with cream cheese) and strawberries. Usually it's made with a regular waffle, but I couldn't resist the idea of a Churroffle!!! It's exactly what it sounds like -- a fusion between a churro and waffle. For $5 this was a delicious and filling dessert. If I had more room in my stomach, I would have topped off that waffle with ice cream. There are many more combinations that you can try, but I was very satisfied with the one I got. I got the fairly simple "Crown Jewel"-strawberry and cream and yes, it was good.
