History

Established in 2016.

Little Apple Art Supply was opened just after the closing of Varney's University bookstore. There had been a history of serving the K-State art and architecture students as well as the local artist community for over 40 years. Being the Art Supply Manager at Varney's Ruth Ridder was a big part of that commitment. The decision was made during the Varney's closure to carry on the tradition of serving the artist community. Supplies and fixtures were purchased, trailers were loaded and moved and the store opened on the day of K-States 2016 Fall Semester

Meet the Business Owner: Ruth R.

Ruth Ridder worked for Varney's as the art and general supply manager up to the time it closed June 30. When she saw the hole the closing was going to leave for the local artist and university needs she decided to carry on the tradition and buy the art department from Varney's. With 30 years of experience managing major art supply stores as well as a good long term relationship with the owners of Varney's. (She initially worked there as a K-State student and art supply manager in the 1980s.) she certainly brings a lot of expertise. "More than anything, I want to make the store into a community, I want the artists to feel they have a place to come to. If I can be that facilitator, that would be wonderful."
