As a former patient of Dr Dloomy, I was disappointed to learn that her replacement, Dr Rivas, would no longer accept my insurance. During my last visit, I told her I was experiencing severe pain in the lower left corner of my mouth. She took one look and said to take some aspirin and it would go away. No X rays were done, she said it would be fine. Six months later I went to see a new dentist and he detected the infection immediately and referred me to an oral surgeon for tooth extraction. He was in disbelief that my prior dentist didn't do anything. Had Dr Rivas been more thorough in her exam, this may have been avoided. She just didn't care since I wasn't going to be her patient much longer. So unprofessional! Mix happier to have found a better dentist! read more

It has taken a minute to write this regarding the dentist that is taking over as Dr Dloomy retires. Dr Lisa Rivas. Super nice and friendly. However, unsanitary dental practices and if you have pain she will just power through instead of using additional Novocaine. Worst experience since I have been coming to this dental office. Dr Dloomy was great. You had pain and she does not cheap out on additional novocain and imo Dr Dloomy is responsible for not vetting who she sold her practice to. read more

Beware and if you are told you need expensive dental work, I'd be suspicious. Although Laurie was fabulous, my experience with Dr. Dloomy is why I'm giving this office 1 star. I really hate giving bad reviews BUT... I hadn't met her my first 2 visits and so I was delighted to think I'd found an office close to my home that took my insurance. When I met her on the 3rd visit, I found her dismissive and I just didn't feel I could trust her. After examining my teeth she said I needed 6 fillings. 6! I knew there was NO WAY I needed them. I've only had 2 cavities up until this point and felt no pain or discomfort. When I pressed her to show me on the x-ray, she said something about them being preventative. I am writing this after having seen 2 other dentists (because of different insurance) since then and NEITHER have found ANY cavities. I told them what she told me and they both said, no way. It just isn't true. Which is what I knew in my gut. So, for what it's worth, maybe get a second opinion (or just go to a different dentist!) if you think something's shady. I get the sense they look for ways to make money after a few visits. read more

I have to give a rare ONE STAR review. While the hygienists and staff were friendly and professional, Dloomy immediately diagnosed me with 6 cavities. The cavities did not show up on her x-rays, but she said they were surface level. I got a second opinion AND a third opinion... both dentists said there were 0 cavities in my teeth, although one of my sealants was cracked, which Dloomy didn't notice. Non-existent cavities are a great way to bill you and your insurance, and most people don't know to push back. You will see others on Yelp have had similar experiences at Dloomy's office. My advice is simple: go to a different dentist. read more

I can't believe I left a good review for this office. I came here twice, the first time was a cleaning, and I had a severe irritation after. My guess is that it was the numbing paste. A couple of weeks after I came to fix one of the six cavities they had found, and I had the same irritation after. This caused a severe inflammation on my wisdom tooth a few days after. As a result, I had to have it pulled out, and spent $600 on something I hadn't planned. I year after I came to another dentist, who didn't find A SINGLE cavities in my mouth, let alone five that I had been told about by dr. Dloomy. After a horrible experience at another practice, I cannot express how relieved I was to find Eva Dloomy's practice today. From the minute I made my appointment with the receptionist Laurie, I was impressed. She had an extremely attentive, kind demeanor on the phone and was able to get me in for an appointment within a week. She recommended I park on the street to avoid parking fees. The office was clean and comfortable, and I was greeted and seated immediately. Back story- A week before visiting Dr, Dloomy's office, I had gone to a shady office that tacked on unnecessary charges and was ready to charge me $1500+ out of pocket for work I need done. Today, Dr. Dloomy carefully examined each of my teeth, showing me pictures and explaining exactly what work I needed done. She had a calming and knowledgeable presence and I felt like I was in good hands. She let the receptionist run the anticipated charges through my insurance to see the total amount that I would pay out of pocket, which was $240. TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS! I was shocked, as I had previously been quoted $1500+. The receptionist was shocked as well, wondering what I would have been charged for at the previous dentist. They put me on the schedule to have the needed work done next week. I couldn't be happier with this office and I am very grateful I found them. THREE AND HALF STARS. Lovely staff, relaxing view of the hillside from the rooms, friendly dentist, and complimentary toothbrush after your cleaning. The only reason I'm withholding a star is for the several recommendations for whitening (not only did my ego take a beating, but my wallet may be anorexic as well). It was a disgustingly long time since my last dental check-up and I was incredibly nervous. The view of the hills behind the building helped me to focus on my deep-breathing before the assistant arrived. Thankfully, I got a tech who did a bang-up job of cleaning my chompers after acknowledging my fears of being poked and prodded. I went in expecting planing or extensive cleaning but all my flossin' and brushin' paid off - i got off with a regular cleaning and several compliments on what nice teeth i possess. They were super thoughtful while taking my x-rays, taking care to cover up my neck and torso. I was semi-relieved and semi-frightened to learn that the pain I was experiencing on/off on one tooth was caused by bruxism. i actually started a tiny crack where the tooth meets the jaw. BAD NEWS!! They answered my many queries regarding solutions, which included several expensive night guards and what it will do if I keep it up. Much of the grinding goes on subconsciously while you're asleep, some people even crack teeth doing this! GEH!! Besides the outrageous prices of the nightguards (sadly not all is covered my insurance), I was thrown for a loop when it was recommended several times that I consider whitening. It wasn't a hard-sell, but it hadn't been an issue with my previous dentist so it made me a little wary (esp it's cosmetic, it's all out of pocket). I'm not an actress/model but this IS Los Angeles, maybe i should step up my game. I appreciated suggestions to make items work double-duty such as my nightguard doubling as my bleaching tray. Dr. Dloomy was running late the morning I had my appointment, luckily I wasn't needed elsewhere so I won't ding 'em for that. (Apparently it's a rarity for her to not show up on time so don't let that deter you.) My previous dentist really prodded around and made sure i was flossed before leaving, I felt a tad short-changed here but the Dr. said i was good besides the bruxism and the possible cosmetic options. The receptionist was a doll and my x-ray tech made sure i got plenty of floss since she said i used it. I took the bus (Metro line 2) and it stops right in front of the building so screw parking in the expensive garage. FYI - hunt for the "Time" and "Newsweek" mags that are buried under all the gossip rags in the waiting room. My teethies felt awesome, and I felt FREAKIN' FANTASTIC after hearing my teeth are in good shape (minus the bruxism). Scary dentist appointment: Conquered! read more

I hate writing bad reviews... in fact, I have put off writing this one for months... but here goes... I got recommended to go here by a friend of mine who raved about her. I'm super scared of dentists, I don't have any fillings and I need one now. I got professional x-rays from a super awesome dentist in NYC when I was there, but didn't stay long enough and didn't get enough courage to go back to get it filled while I was there. So... in my search of an HONEST dentist... do any exist out there??? I came across this lady's referral. She kept me waiting 40mins, which was super annoying on my first visit. when I was about to get up to leave she rushed in, then she went over my mouth so thoroughly I almost bought how amazing she was... UNTIL... she said I needed 9 filings!!!! I nearly flipped out. Something felt wrong. Perhaps there are not many honest dentists are out there. I'm scared of them all anyways, because they just seem like auto mechanics, if they tell you your engine is busted, who am I to know if it is or isnt? I found Dr. Dloomy through my dental insurance. I first went to her because I was having some pain prior to a trip. The staff as well as her were so accommodating and nice to me. They got me right in seeing I was leaving in a few days. After doing an X-ray found out it was grinding causing my pain. She adjusted my bite and after some pleasant talk I was off pain free. I went back for a full exam and cleaning 3 weeks later. Dr. Dloomy was so thorough and answered all my questions. They let me see the X-rays and explained everything to me in detail. The hygienist did an amazing cleaning seeing I hadn't had one in over 2 years and didn't guilt me too much. She was very sweet and never felt anxious during the cleaning. I would highly recommend Dr. Dloomy to anybody who has a fear of the dentist. Only downside is the parking but there are options nearby. read more

Went in for x-rays and a cleaning my first time. The hygienist, Leela (sp?), was very nice and also very good at what she does. She also took the time to teach me about why and how I should be doing certain things for my teeth. The front desk personnel were also very helpful and courteous. The woman who did my x-rays made great small talk and also took the time to make sure the bite clamps didn't cut my inner cheeks. Overall it was a great experience except for the fact that I did not get to meet Dr. Dloomy on my first visit; I was told she was on vacation. Nonetheless, so far, so good. I parked down Doheny in a 2 hour zone and was finished in 1.5 hours after filling out preliminary papers for a new patient. I will definitely be coming back here for my next cleaning. read more

I went here on a friend's recommendation, I figure if he can go 10 years (don't ask) without hitting a dentist and still like this one after his catch-up treatments, then she must be okay. Turns out, he was right. I went in for a cleaning and x-rays and it was a good visit. Nothing fantastic, but decent. The most painful part - steel yourself - was parking. Since I was in there for a while, parking came out to $18. OUCH. They don't validate, and the garage is cash only. (And if you use their ATM, be prepared for extra fees on top of the ridiculous parking cost.) Bottom line: the doctor's fine, but park at a meter instead. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Dloomy for about 5 years now. Let me first say, I have great looking teeth, but pretty poor quality teeth. I had my first root canal at age 12 and I think every tooth except my 8 front ones have had some work done to them. There was even a point where I was so broke I had to go to the free dental clinic for tooth pain. So yeah, I was not blessed with the good tooth gene. The staff at Dr. Dloomys is always super friendly and they always make time to see me, because my schedule is usually a mess. I have never had a problem getting a same day appointment. Laurie is the best, and so personable, and she even hold my hand when I have to get numbed. And Dloomy has always been so caring and gentle with me and my teeth. About three years ago I was bushing my teeth and noticed a very large black spot on my tooth that is furthest back. I called the office and made an emergency appointment! I just knew it was a huge cavity! I sat down in the chair, Dloomy came in and I opened my mouth to point it out. Turned out it was not a cavity, but rather a silver filling I had gotten done (at the clinic) a few years before. I felt so silly, but she she told me it was a nice to see me and we were both happy it was not a cavity. In 2010 I started the invisalign teeth straighteners, and for two years I was in the office every month. After loosing one of my trays, oops, my bad! They even re-submitted my case (no extra charge to me) just to be sure I was completely happy with my teeth. In 5 years I have had three bouts with extreme tooth pain, which sent me running to their office. The first one I needed a root canal and they sent me to a very nice lady in westwood. The second time the pain was coming from under a crown I got many years ago, they took the crown off temporarily and the pain stopped. No root canal needed! woot woot. They simply put the crown back on and I was on my way. The third and most recent time, after days of hurting I went to see them and it turned out I needed another root canal, this time it was the other side of my mouth. They hooked me up with an endodontist just a floor above and an hour and a half, and another root canal later, I was feeling so much better! I love that they always show me the x-rays and they take the time to explain my options . They have never recommended a procedure I did not need, and they have always worked with me as far as how much is covered by insurance and how much it will cost me. Yes, they recommend I get a cleaning every six months, and teeth whiting, but that's their job right? I simply tell them not today and we move on. Of course if I kept up on my cleanings I probably would not need as many root canals! Oh, and I parked in the structure one time, and never again. There is usually lots of free (2 hour) parking a block up the street. :) read more

How many people can say they love their dentist? After seeing Eva Dloomy, I can honestly say I do! First came to Dr. Dloomy about 6 years ago on a friends recommendation. I've always feared the dentist, but Dr. Dloomy and her staff are incredibly friendly, gentle when they do work and make scheduling an appointment a breeze. Lella (not sure how to spell it) always does my cleaning, and she is thorough! You definitely get a great cleaning from her and she always reviews flossing techniques and lets you know if there are any areas you'll want to pay more attention to in your daily care. She does great work and is very nice! Dr. Dloomy is the only dentist to ever make me feel relaxed in the chair. She's gentle, works quickly and always smells good (I know it's weird, but it's true. Her perfume always smells good). Parking can suck. They do have a garage for the building, but it will cost you a lot. Parking can usually be found on the street meters, but they're for 2 hours so bring change and let the staff now if you're running out of time on your meter and they'll make sure you get out in time. If you want a GREAT dentist then come see Dr. Dloomy. read more

Changing a health provider of any kind can be stressful and risky. My first visit for cleaning and examination was very thorough and done with care. My dental health was clearly explained by the two hygenists and Dr Dloomy, each of whom all examined me and spent sufficient time. No additional work was suggested or pushed (upselling), however Dr Dloomy did advise to keep an eye on something which may need to be addressed down the road. I generally consider myself a guy kind of guy that doesn't get easily rattled. But when I hear that drill whirring I don't actually hear the words "fuck this" go through my head, I just suddenly realize there's something important I have to do somewhere else. Like Latvia. As a result I had a few cavities to fill last year. My previous dentist was assigned to me through the insurance company and that guy was exactly the kind of hack you'd excpect an insurance company to recommend. So when I needed a dentist this time around, I did what I do to find out anything local (this was in the dark ages before yelping), I posted a myspace bulletin. As you can imagine, severall people responded to me just to laugh, but a friend of mine respond to me that she had the coolest dentist ever. Low and behold, she was absolutely right. I went to Dr. Dloomy and she turned out to be the sweetest lady ever. She is the first dentist I can remember going to that hasn't scared the shit out of me as soon as I sat in the chair. She accidentally scheduled me for my birthday, so she bought me a cupcake and had the staff sing happy birthday to me. It was pretty stupid, but really sweet. I went to this dentist place for the first time because it is near my apartment. This office took x-rays, and after I was told I had 3 cavities. I was told to make an appointment to do a clean-up and work on my 3 cavities which came to $950.00. I told them I don't have dental insurance so they were willing to come down on the price if I paid cash. I said I needed to think about it. In the mean time I went to go see my old dentist in Burbank. She gave me a clean-up and found NO CAVITIES! I reported them to the Better Business Bureau. I wish this was a joke but its not. I have been going to Dr.Dloomy's office for almost 20 years since I remember the first time I went to the office to get my teeth cleaned Lori , Dr.Dloomy and the staff were so friendly. It feels like a family business and both Dr. Dloomy and Lori are able to make it so fun while The drilling goes on. I never forget two years ago around Christmas and NY my temporary crown cracked and I was in panic since the office was closed. Lori was proactive and prepared me for it since for the type of crown that I needed the risk of the temporary cracking was high and I had her cell as a lifeline. She drove to the office while she had out of town guests at her house for the holiday to just put a new temporary crown in for me which is unheard of in most businesses. That is just one example of many and I truly love seeing Dr. Dloomy, Lori, and the staff. They are an awesome professional team with amazing sense of humor. read more

Dr. Dloomy's office is a mixed bag. I've been coming here for years and have only had one true consultation with Dr. Dloomy. Parking is ridiculous. Avoid $20 parking in the structure under the office and opt for street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. My main gripe is with the office's sales tactics. Every other time I go in, I feel like I have to listen to a sales pitch for some type unnecessary procedure. The one time I met with Dloomy, it was for an orthodontic consultation. She assured me Invisalign would be able to correct my open bite. The office didn't volunteer information about how my insurance would cover traditional braces but not Invisalign. To add insult to injury, my orthodontist recently told me that Invisalign would absolutely not correct my bite. I'm so glad I trusted my instinct. The minute I got the feeling that I was being sold a used car, I took my orthodontic care to an actual orthodontist. My recommendation: If they try to sell you anything beyond obvious dental care, go home and do your research before agreeing to treatment. On the plus side, the office is beautiful and clean and provides good views while you're getting work done. Everyone in the office seems genuinely kind and I absolutely adore Leila (sp?). Each time I've turned down treatment, they haven't continued to push it on me. Overall, I'm pleased with Dr. Dloomy's office for routine cleanings. The staff is fun and amiable. If they had better parking and eased up on sales, this could easily be a 5-star experience. One more thing: Alex is great about calling to confirm appointments and getting you into the chair on time. My husband and I have been seeing Dr. Dloomy for many years, and now our 3-year old is seeing her too. We've had great experiences with the doctor and the hygienists and office staff. They are very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about their field. What blew my mind today was that my daughter had a cavity, and when we went to the dentist to fill it, my daughter was laughing and happy the whole time. Afterward, she told me she loves going to the dentist. I couldn't believe it. I was sure this would be the beginning of her starting to be afraid of going to the dentist, but instead she had a great time AND got a toy, which she thinks is amazing. Like other posters, I agree that the parking kind of sucks. I usually try to find parking on the street, but today I had to park in the lot. It was almost $9 for less than an hour, which isn't the most I've ever paid for parking, but still more than I'd like to pay. However, I complained to the receptionist, and he suggested a lot down the street that I didn't even know about. I can't recommend this dentist enough.
