The Most Unprofessional and Negligent Lawyer I've Ever Dealt With…read more If there were an option for zero stars, I would choose it. My experience with this lawyer has been nothing but frustration and disappointment. He rarely answered my calls, and when he did, it was after two or three weeks of waiting. Communication was almost impossible -- I felt completely abandoned during one of the hardest times of my life. Because of his negligence and failure to act, I lost my alimony, lost child support, and even lost primary custody of my children. He never objected to the unfair terms in my divorce decree and did not even notify me about the court decisions or hearings. When the final decree was issued, I was shocked to see how badly my case had been handled. It truly felt like he was representing my ex-husband instead of me. The most painful part is that if I had just done a simple, no-fight (uncontested) divorce, it would have been cheaper and I would have kept more of my rights than I did after paying this lawyer to ruin my case. This was the worst legal experience I've ever had. Do not hire this attorney -- he is unreliable, unresponsive, and completely careless with his clients' lives and families.

I would not recommend Adam Vander Heyden based on my experience with him as my DUI attorney…read more I was given two plea offers before my final court date: one for 6 months probation and 5 days in jail, and another for 10 days in jail with a DUI conviction. I made it very clear that I did not want to go to jail, or if jail was unavoidable, I wanted the absolute minimum amount of time possible. Adam advised me to reject both offers because he told me he believed he could get me a better result in court. I trusted his advice and followed his recommendation. Unfortunately, once we actually went into court, I felt like everything completely fell apart. The City Attorney presented a very negative picture of me, and I felt that my attorney's response and defense were extremely weak. The main argument I heard from my attorney was essentially that I work and therefore shouldn't go to jail. I did not feel like there was a strong effort to counter what the City Attorney was saying or advocate for me. The judge ultimately sentenced me to 80 DAYS IN JAIL -- significantly more than either of the plea offers I had been advised to reject. What bothers me most is that I genuinely felt like my attorney did not care about the outcome of my case. I trusted him when he told me we could do better by rejecting the offers, and I ended up paying a much heavier price because of that decision. I understand that no lawyer can guarantee a result, and I understand that the judge makes the final decision. My issue is with the advice I received, the expectations that were set, and how I felt I was represented when it actually mattered. I would not recommend this attorney to someone facing a DUI who is relying on their lawyer to seriously fight for them. My experience left me extremely disappointed and frustrated
