This was one of those surprises in the downtown area. By surprise, I mean the english pub style action they have going on. It's surrounded by Canada Place, expensive waterfront hotels and generally touristy stuff. It's great as an alternative to what you can get accustomed seeing around this part of the city. This is what made me wander over to this place. It opens at 11 am and fills up really fast. I was surprised! It is very much pub food you will be going for here. So with that in mind, I ordered the shepard's pie. I was disappointed in how soupy it was. Ya know, you can't have soupy shepards pie! I went to England and I tell you a traditional pie is not soupy!!!! This does not deter me though. It has a really busy, relaxed atmosphere which I can imagine after work would be a great place to hang out. There's a sports bar feel to this place too. Well, I guess the sports playing on the screens should have made me guess that one. Go there, for a relaxed time. Bring a group of friends for a pint or two. The price you pay seems a little high for what you get. I find the food at Lions Pub average, but the price higher than what I want to pay. The service has always been good though and I don't have any complaints there. I'm not a huge fan of pub food, but when I do have it, it needs to be very good and at a decent price. Pub grub........again. Noisy, and crowded if you come here on game night, but that is the same with any pub type establishment in town. Bigger beer list compared to wine, I prefer wine. :( I come here for drinks. If I eat, it will be appys and I am not expecting anything earth shattering. Nachos are OK. Dry pork ribs are OK. Our fastpitch team had a trivia fundraiser here and it was awesome. The staff is so accommodating and patient. One of my friends that came is on the 30 day clean diet and her waitress (Miranda) brought out photocopies of everything that was put in there food. From there, she was able to order a food that accommodates her diet constrictions. Well over above and beyond service Miranda. The food was good. The service was fast considering we had 2 servers for 60 plus guests. They helped us set up our event (trivia) and didn't require any minimums. Thanks everyone for a great event!! read more

The food quality here is off the charts. They share the same kitchen as the Terminal City Club which is well above the level of virtually every other pub on the planet. I come to Lions Pub quite frequently, and I think it's great! Food quality is generally consistently good, except for the one time they were experimenting with their dishes, namely the beef dip after changing the menu, where the dipping sauce went from the broth-based sauce to a very thick and salty one. Aside from that, food is typically really good. You should go for the Shepard's Pie if you particularly hungry one day, or if you're feeling adventurous, you can try their pie of the day. The one time I tried it, it was a seafood pie, which was quite nice, though a little too small for my liking. If you're a fan of poutine, Lions makes a pretty good one. It's not the best in Vancouver, but it's comparable to some of the better poutineries in Vancouver. Soups and salads are good, I like how rich their seafood chowder is, and how they use real parmesan on their caesar salads. As you may also know, Lions Pub has a huge selection of beers from around the world. Just feel free to ask a waitress or the bartender about what they recommend. They're a bit quirky because of how busy they are (since this place is somewhat understaffed), but they should be able provide you with very useful information on each beer. You should also ask about their daily pint, which as you can guess, changes daily. Daily pints are a dollar cheaper than the regular beers, so keep that in mind. This place is also good for groups since it is a very large venue. This is particularly handy since it's so close to the waterfront. For such groups, you may want to order their Nachos, those plates are huge, and they are very generous with the guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos, salsa and of course our favourite: Cheese. So, if you're ever down by the waterfront, why not check this place out. It's a block away from Burrard off Cordova Street. read more

I recently went here with a group of 12 - it's a lovely pub close to Canada Place- spacious with an English feel. Service was speedier, and more attentive here, our server was running off her feet ~ it being a busy Saturday night. It's a tad pricey ~ 3 ciders and a plate of nachos cost me $55 but I guess you should expect the higher prices at this Waterfront Vancouver location. Good food ~ our table had a variety of offerings: fish and chips, appetizers ~ everyone was pleased with their meals. I have been coming to this pub for many, many years now and surprised that I have not put in a review as of yet. Most recently last week a few co-workers and I stopped by prior to the long weekend to unwind. The location has always been convenient being only moments away from major bus routes, skytrain and even the sea bus. At a former job we would have lunch with new employees at this location. We managed to find a booth and despite the whole pub looking very busy we were seen by someone within minutes. The selection of beer is nice and I found the food menu to be creative and tasty. I was surprised at how few reviews there are for this place. Since I don't have cell coverage outside of the US and I didn't have my handy Yelp app to consult, we were just winging it for the day. We were absolutely starving and decided we would have lunch at the first place that looked interesting. Since we were staying at the Marriott down the street, we stumbled upon Lions Pub pretty quick. We opted to dine out on the patio since it was a gorgeous day. It was around 1 PM on a Friday and the place was busy but not packed. I ordered the veggie wrap and my friend ordered the veggie burger. Our food was really good but service left a little something to be desired. It was fairly busy and we were sitting outside but when you're waiting around for an extra thirty minutes to pay and you'd rather be out sightseeing, my patience grows thin. I'm not sure it will be at the top of my list for my next trip up to Vancouver, since there are so many other restaurants to try, but it's not bad if you're staying in the area. read more

A few weeks ago my office had a small pre Christmas party, party. We started here as a group of 10. I have always liked this pub as it has a nice, warm feeling to it and the food isn't all that shabby. That being said, the platters don't really fill up a table of 10 who are partaking in libations. The service was fantastic so that made up for the food. I am sure she thought we were off the wall but she was laughing so that's always a good sign. Laid-back, casual pub in a very central location with a decent variety of beers on tap for the lager lovers among you. (Daily drink specials too, for those of us who jump straight to the wine and cocktail menus.) They also make a very good Greek salad which was huge and loaded with peppers, feta cheese, kalamata olives, onion and tomato. It's not the fanciest atmosphere or the best food downtown, but I enjoy the casual, traditional pub-style atmosphere and it's a great place to grab a drink and watch the game. The food is still very good and the ambience is still good but what the heck is up with the service? I thought last time was a fluke so based on the location and food alone it was a good review but this time around it was just too much. The waitresses are just plain rude. As soon as we walked in one girl rushed up behind us and started going "Excuse me! Excuse me! Behind you! Excuse me!" as she was trying to get by. First of all, we haven't even been told where to sit. There are no signs that said "Seat Yourself" but apparently that's what we were supposed to do. Then no one came to give us a menu. When our waitress finally showed us the first thing she said was not to take our drink orders or ask what we were ordering. Instead she offered to throw out my full cup of Starbucks I had just bought. Then she proceeded to yammer on about how I can't put it on their table; it's the law; can't put it on the chair as it might spill and she didn't want to clean the upholstery; it has to go on the floor; she was doing me a favor because I wasn't even suppose to have it in the establishment; I could choke to death and my family would sue them because I was drinking it on their grounds; but bottled water is ok (I guess I can't choke on water. Only coffee). This went on for at least 5 minutes. She came by on 3 separate occasions to hassle me about my stupid Starbucks that I wasn't even consuming. Honestly what is the big deal? I wasn't consuming an outside drink in their establishment. Why is water ok but not coffee? And if I did freaking choke and die how does my family even start finding out about the Starbucks??? Guess what people, if I freaking choked to death on your grounds it doesn't matter what I was or wasn't drinking! Having the Starbucks there could probably save you a law suit as you can say it wasn't your food or drink that killed me! Versus without the Starbucks, now who are you going to blame? It had to be your food/drink that killed me. Think about it! Saying "it's the law" doesn't make you any less of a pain the butt. What I found especially hilarious was how the waitress offered to dump my coffee in a mug and then dump it back in the cup when I leave. How does this resolve the "coffee choked me to death" scenario in any way shape or form??? When I said no that's ok to this suggestion as its just too much effort she came back with "I'm the one doing all the work woman!". In that exact wording, verbatim. Honestly? The entire meal then proceeded to be poor service. A refill of ice tea took 15 min. Then the bill took another 10. Then we waited another 15 min for her to come back and pick up the card and drop it off again. Did I mention there were only about 10 patrons on the entire place? No excuse for this kind of slowpokery people. So, I take back what I said in the first review. This place is not worth 4 stars. Food is still decent but save yourself some freaking headache and go to the food court next door. read more

Lions was the closest pub to the Trade and Convention Centre and we were heading to Taboo straight after dinner so we didn't want to walk very far. Typical pub fare, alright prices and a few drink specials. Other than our waitress being slow, the experience was good. Pretty good place for a game night. We went on a sunday night and it was half empty. Probably because it was Easter. I liked it since I hate lining up and waiting for a table! My bf had a burger with yam fries which was pretty good, and I enjoyed a strawberry, goat cheese salad which was delicious! Keeping up to date on my pulled pork sandwich list is The Lions Pub. The pulled pork wasn't running along the sides onto my hands and kept well in the burger bun. Compliments to the chef for following the pulled pork motto, "when the bun is runny, it ain't funny". Atmosphere - As you enter the pub, I am always curious about the layout here when there's a big game on TV. Screens are situated at every eye-catching angle available here. There should be no head tilting angle where you can miss any part of a game. Unless it's facing down, which probably means you've had one too many drinks. Put together 8 guys for lunch on a semi-powered liquid lunch with two guys to a bench and you'll get a sense of what this pub can do on a game night. I went here on a weekday for brunch. Although it is a pub, it is very family friendly. The interior is classic and a bit weathered, but the chairs were very comfortable and looked newly reupholstered, which was nice. Our food was excellent. After searching for what seemed like forever, we finally decided on this place for lunch. My blood sugar was dangerously low at this point, so I was in a big hurry to be served! I ordered the veggie burger and luckily everything came out pretty quickly! It was a really tasty veggie burger, meaning actual veggies, not some soy protein...and I got the side salad, which had really nice, light dressing. I also really enjoyed sitting out on the patio in the nice weather, people-watching. The only downside, again, was the service. "Mouse!!" OK, in fairness we were sitting on the patio so it's not like we saw him (perhaps a bit presumptuous, I don't actually know the gender) in the restaurant. A friendly little fella, he kept us entertained trying to work on the remnants of a tortilla chip while we drank in our pints. It's a nice looking British pub inside with plenty of drink options. I had been waiting all trip to finally try an Alexander Keith's and decided on the IPA. What the server gave me was not an IPA, perhaps a golden ale. However, I didn't want to disturb Vance (we named him Vance) so I sat in my chair and drank it down. It's my fault for not noticing the slip-up on the order right away but it didn't help that our server never came back to our side of the patio to check on us. I'd like to give Lions Pub another whirl and start fresh. Perhaps we'll try in the colder months when Vance is on holiday in California. read more

This place is OK if you're just getting beer and don't mind shitty service. The food sucks and is overpriced. You are basically paying for location. I could dumpster dive ingredients & cook up something better. The staff seem to have a huge attitude. I asked a lady if there was a lunch special her response was unnecessarily bitchy. It would be one star if not for another server being very nice and going out of her way to fix the situation, removing two dry burgers from the total bill. I went once during the Canucks playoffs and it was CRAZY busy..the food was good and the service, even thouogh it was VERY busy and thus slow, was still good. The wait staff was still nice even though clearly stressed. I didn't mind much, I wasn't here to focus on the service or food, I just needed a place to watch the game. I came again after the Fan Expo in Vancouver after they had just been rocked...they must have been crazy busy again..we walked all over the pub trying to find a clean table. we ended up just sitting at a dirty one and someone rushed around us to clean it. It wasn't a big deal, they were just trying to recover from a huge rush. Once again, we were focused on the hockey game. The food was good though, and wait staff were polite. One older male bartender is a racist pig. My friend from Detroit came to visit me and we decided to grab a beer and dinner. He wouldn't serve us and said our IDs were fake. He asked for 2 photo IDs after (BC law can have 1 photo ID and a credit card to prove age), but I didn't have another photo ID on hand. I challenged him and looked up the law to show him, but he just wouldn't have it. I've had no problems getting to other bars except this one. We're both Asian so we may not look our age, but this was downright disrespectful. I've been here once before with white friends and it was fine with the servers. I go here because it is the only Pub in Dundarave. It's taking a while for other restaurants to pop up on this great little strip of shops. So if I get a night out to hang with adults and have a drink and I want to be in Dundarave, this is really the only place to go. I found this pub my first day in Vancouver, and immediately took a liking to it. Everything is covered in nice, dark wood, and their drink selection is great (they have peach cider here!!). The food is pricey, but if you have the money to spend it tastes fantastic. Best of all, the staff are excellent. I got to talking to the bar tender and the co-owner about places to eat in Vancouver Downtown, and they know everything! Within minutes I had over ten places to visit, food recommendations and sights to see. If you're staying in Downtown for a little while, definitely stop by and talk to these folks! read more
