It has taken me SEVRAL months to decide to write this review. When I needed a kennel to board 2 of…read moremy dogs while on vacation, I came here because of the reviews. I will never use Gillette Kennel ever again. My two dogs were boarded together. One ended up stressed and attacked my other dog, missed placed aggression. Understand that can't be avoided at all times...the issue became the one stressed began being treated incredibly poorly. If you have an animal you know they read your emotion, your anger, your body language. I know this is what happened based on the dialog with staff. In addition, while we were out of the country I was VERY CLEAR on any issues that arise to contact my daughter immediately. INSTEAD, one dog was treated poorly, no out time and NO medical care. The other dog was petrified and full anxiety. His wounds did get cleaned. NOBODY contacted my daughter and no vet care until I was back. I immediately took them to the vet. The vet agreed they should have had the vet care after the occurrence. I had dialog with the "owner" that everyone raves about. He had NOTHING to say. I sent him the photos of the injuries. NO CONTACT back afterward. When I went to pick up the dogs one of the COMPLETLEY UNPROFFESIONAL "staff" members told my husband to go get the dog that did not receive any attention at all. She said she he was crazy, aggressive and wanted "nothing to do with him". How do you think he felt about you!? Another employee came out, again completely unprofessional and spouted about how terrible they were, on and on and on. I actually wanted to tell her to shut the "you know what up". But instead I ignored her and remained calm and professional. Getting both dogs to the car it was clear that beyond needing immediate medical care that they would both need a TON of emotional healing. One shaking and in a daze, literally and the "terrible" one just wanted to be held. He melted into my lap like he had been in hell. Extensive conversation with Mr. Gillette mounted in NOTHING. He was not present during the time my dogs were there. Accountability for your own staff would have been nice, and I would not have left the clearly untrained staff in charge. I am not looking for feedback from others regarding the post, or others to assess a situation in which they weren't present. I am posting this to purely communicate my experience and allow for those looking for dog boarding to read all experiences beyond the "excellent" reviews. Thank you Wendy

Everyone who works here is friendly & most of them know my dog on sight. The facility is clean, and I have never had trouble getting an appointment when I needed to. If my dog comes in sick they will call me several days later to check on him & see how he is doing. I had trouble once getting into my account online to get a copy of my dog's records, but I called & they emailed me a copy within 5 minutes. We use the boarding kennel side as well, and I feel perfectly safe leaving him there when we go out of town. The first time we left him there I asked if I could see the facility & they had no problem letting me come back and check it out for myself. They do push their pet "plans" but if you have a puppy it's actually a pretty decent deal. Your mileage may vary depending on your dog though. I do buy his heartworm med here vs online but as I live nearby it's very convenient for me. I don't get my frontline from them & they've never given me a problem about it.

The veterinary care itself has generally been adequate, and there is one veterinarian I still really like and trust. My biggest concern has been the repeated problems with prescriptions. Every time I've needed a controlled medication prescription, there have been issues getting it written correctly despite providing clear instructions. Most recently, it took five attempts to get it corrected, and it was still not right. I was initially told the prescription could not be mailed because it was against the law. When I questioned that, I was later told the veterinarian signing it was simply not comfortable mailing it, so I had to repeatedly drive to the hospital to pick up prescriptions. On the final attempt, they did mail the prescription to me after I explained how much time and gas the repeated trips were costing - it was still incorrect. They also no longer offer weekend hours, which has made things less convenient. Additionally, they had a $25 referral program, but the person who referred me never received the promised bonus. I appreciate the people who have cared for my dog over the years, but the repeated administrative and prescription issues have made me feel that the overall experience has declined. I hope they take this feedback seriously and work on improving the organization and communication.

Holly was a wealth of knowledge and set out a clear plan that made it easy for my parents to follow. We were able to set up a simple schedule and re-set their daily routine to include Holly's training games which helped improve their foster's situation. Mr. MVP and I recently hired Kelly to help us with our senior Aussie and her dog park issues. We are members at Meadow Run and our senior Aussie, although a huge fan of the park, is not a fan of the wild puppies and the erratic running and playing. She has also grown very protective of our younger Aussie and started to get bossy when another pup wanted to play ball. Both of our Aussies know all their commands at home, but at the dog park it can be hit and miss. Kelly helped us set up easy and very reachable goals to work on with our senior girl to help her understand that playing dogs are just happy dogs and she has nothing to worry about. Her behavior improved almost instantly. Per Kelly's suggestion we also started working on commands more seriously at the park and both girls have been doing amazing. We picked Tip Top Tails above the other trainers in the area because they focus on positive reinforcement, only. I heard from a friend who used another training company that they use squirt guns to spray water when the dogs do something wrong and choke collars for correction we wanted absolutely nothing to do with that. Kelly and Holly use treats, positive commands and the jolly routine (which is something we had been using for about a year already, which was so nice to hear!). Holly met with Mr. and Mrs. B on a Sunday at their house and we met with Kelly at Meadow Run on a Saturday morning - both private lessons. Tip Top Tails has group lessons, puppy classes and a whole bunch of other class options. We just signed our youngest Aussie up for a private dock diving lesson next week at Meadow Run with Beth, another trainer at Tip Top. We would highly recommend Tip Top Tails as a training option. Mr. MVP and I have read all the books and done weeks of research and even though we knew a lot of the information Kelly shared with us, we still learned quite a bit.
