I ordered a car at 10am to pick up my son at 12pm. Driver was over 30 min late and her card reader wasn't working so I had her stop by my work to grab cash which was on the way and she charged extra. Used this company to set up a pick up/drop off. The driver arrived a bit earlier (which i preferred) and he didn't mind waiting a few minutes for me to leave the house. The driver was professional & made sure i reached my destination. Credit cards are accepted & receipts are provided (this was a business trip so i need receipts in order to get reimbursed). Awsome! I was VERY skeptic about trying them from the reviews but I called them needing a pick up and they came in a hour later ( they had no cabs in my area at the time and including 5pm traffic) When the cab came it was EXTREMELY comfortable and clean. The driver was extremely nice. The car didn't smell like smoke and the car seemed brand new. (Please look at the photo I posted). I only traveled 3 miles with him and it came out to only 10$! I spent some time trying to figure out if there was a way to give Lindy's a negative-star review, I could not, so I am loathe to give them one. I have taken Lindy's dozens of tines unfortunately until i found a better way, so my review is not based on a one-time experience. I take a cab 5 days a week from Hauppauge to the Central Islip rail, approximately a 10 minute ride. Here is a day in the life of a Lindy's customer: Step 1: Call for a 4:30pm pickup. If you call less than 90 minutes for this 10 minute ride you are greeted by the dispatcher, "Brian", who provides you with a surly attitude and perhaps a sarcastic "Are you kidding me?" on your request for a pickup with only 60-90 minutes notice. No dice. Or, if you call at, let's say 1:00pm for a 4:30pm pickup, you may get a "We'll come get you." Proceed to step 2. Step 2: Wait for pickup at 4:30pm. Driver will show up usually between 4:45-4:50 for your 4:30 pickup (train is at 4:55). The car will likely smell like cigarettes, have loud music and a driver will greet you with a nonplussed expression, not quite understanding why you are upset he is 15-20 minutes late. Step 3: Make 4:55pm train. Now the driver will tell you "I'll get you there" in spite of the lack of time. The driver will then proceed to weave in and out of traffic, on more than one occasion the driver went on a sidewalk in order to attempt to make up for the lost time since the 3 hours notice you gave the dispatcher apparently was not enough notice for an on-time pickup. In spite of the driver's reckless driving, you miss the train (next train after 4:55 is 7:20). You are then charged around $4 more than the gypsy cabs charge for the privilege of having to wait 2 and a half hours for the next west bound train since Lindy's could not perform. Step 4: Call Lindy's to complain. When I called to complain about the consistent poor service and frequent missed trains I was told by the "manager" that "sometimes you miss the train buddy". That is a day in the life of a regular Lindy's customer. Since they feel they are the only game in town you are treated like dirt from start to finish. Do yourself a favor, walk if possible to avoid this cab company. If you can't walk, look for one of the gypsy cabs at the train and get a card to call for a return trip. They are typically cheaper and more reliable. In a nutshell, you are better off walking, hitchhiking, or stealing a car than taking Lindy's. It will be safer, cheaper and more reliable. read more

Re-posted from the other Lindy's listing: I was visiting my sister this weekend at Stony Brook when we decided to take a trip to the Smith Haven mall. Since the shuttle bus to the mall wasn't running, we were told to call this cab company to pick us up from the Student Activity Center. There was a band playing outside SAC which caused my sister to not hear her phone ring when the dispatcher called, but she saw the phone ringing and quickly answered it. The noise outside was too much for her to understand what the dispatcher was saying, but she responded that she was on her way and we quickly jumped into the cab. And then the horror story began ... Immediately the dispatcher and the cab driver started talking about how we were too lazy to pick up the phone, how we have no manners, and that we are rude WHILE WE WERE IN THE CAB. And I can't say that the driver was particularly good at his job because the two of us [along with another unfortunate soul] were being tossed around in the back from the many sharp turns it apparently takes to go from campus to the mall. We got to the mall and I half threw the money at the cab driver while trying to get out of a cab with a broken door. After a struggle with the door, we finally escaped. I immediately called the cab service to file a complaint. Instead I had a screaming match with the dispatcher who clearly felt in the right to comment on customers while they were still in the car. He tried to make excuses for why it was ok to call customers lazy and rude while they are in hearing range. The least the guy could have done is apologize for being unprofessional. There are other car services than Lindy's ... you are better off calling A-Cab Service. At least the driver won't get fresh with you, and you won't have to listen to a dispatcher talk about how horrible you are because you got in the cab instead of answering their call. read more

Made arrangements last night for a 4 a.m. pick up from St James to LaGuardia Airport the driver Car 325 arrived 10 minutes early which was wonderful and his professionalism and driver etiquette were quite refreshing . It was a pleasure to drive with this company. We arrived in less than 1 hour without reckless driving or any kind of mishaps it was actually refreshing to Have a driver who knew where he was going without GPS cluttering up the dashboard and causing a distraction most of the time the conversation was wonderful he was very helpful with our luggage and we're going to request him when we come back from our trip can't say enough good things about Lindy's . Recently the cars were upgraded the driver told us that he takes the car home it was clean smoke free just a pleasant experience I would definitely recommend from the Smithtown office this one particular driver. read more

Not realizing until it was too late I called them up, they said " why did you get out of the car, and no we won't send another car this is you problem". I have a medical condition that prevents me from driving. I never will use them ever again and do not recommend them to anyone after tonight. read more

I was planning on taking an Uber at the Smithtown train station yesterday when a Lindy's Taxi drove up, so I took them instaed. I was told the fare would be $12. When I reached my destination, I handed the driver my credit card. It was only then that I was told there was a $20 minimum to use a credit card. When I complained that I had not been told this when I was picked up, I was informed by the driver there was also a $3 serve charge for using a credit card! I pointed out to the driver there were signs all over the taxi that they accept credit cards, but nowhere does it speak about a minimum charge nor any service fee for using credit cards. Apparently, transparency is not a value this company cherishes.. and I would not recommend this taxi service. Next time.... UBER read more

The 1st time ordering them over an hour ahead of time to pick us up in Stony Brook Inn to catch a train. The 2nd time because the time came and went they were a no show. Lindy's is the worst transportation service I've ever encountered in my life. I've been forced to put up with their poor service for years now. Therefore, my rating/review is not based on an isolated incident --it's based on many incidents that have occurred over the time frame of years. [You may be thinking, "If they're that bad, why would he have used them so many times for so many years?" Well, because in some areas they're the only option.] I can write a 1000-word essay arguing against this company; however, I'll sum it all up with a few bullets: -extremely unreliable: whatever the estimated time may be that the dispatcher gives you, multiply it by 3 to get a more accurate figure. However, sometimes they just don't show up at all. -poor customer service: the dispatchers are *always* rude and unhelpful. -unsafe and ignorant drivers: not only are most of the drivers reckless, a lot of them don't even know where they're going. Yeah, they'll get you to your destination, but they'll often take the long way. You're better off just giving them the step-by-step directions. -poorly maintained vehicles: the cars they use are all old and trashy. Most of them smell like smoke and if they don't, they smell like a locker room. -overpriced: they are, by far, the most expensive taxi service in the area. Not using this service anymore. The dispatcher is very unpleasant and borderline disinterested actually sending you a car. I called for a car recently and the guy said "We have no cars." Like...what? Isn't that what your company DOES? Send cars to pick people up? No? In the past, when they actually WOULD send somebody, they'd always show up in the most dilapidated cars. The drivers also never seem to know their way around town, and they don't seem to have GPS or smartphones to guide them. Furthermore, they'll pick up other fares during your ride, pulling you several minutes outside of your travel route, delaying you. Not that they ask/tell you about this, they just kinda do it... I've never really had any problems with the drivers themselves. They seem to be nice enough. But man, the dispatch guy is so RUDE and this service is run so poorly. IF they come and pick you up (and you WILL wait at least 15 minutes,) the ride is, at least, pretty cheap. Still, a very poorly run taxi service that obviously does NOT care about their customers. Just use Uber. Sure, you'll have to wait 15-20 mins (in Suffolk,) but at least they'll treat you better than Lindy's and you won't ride in a jalopy. PROS: You MIGHT get a car to pick you up. Fares are reasonable. CONS: Long delays for pick up. Dispatcher is extremely rude. Dispatcher might not actually send you a car. Taxis are in horrible shape. Drivers don't have GPS or know their way around town, so be prepared to navigate. Drivers will pick up other fares during your trip. OVERALL: Not recommended. Didn't even make it into the cab....I was told 15-20 minute wait for my cab, when I called back 33 minutes later after still waiting, I was told I had to wait longer, when pressed for a time I was told at least another 20 minutes (this is after waiting 33 minutes already after being told 20). I had the worst driver a person can imagine!!! I hope he gets fired immediately if this damn company ever reads this review! I was staying at the motel America's Best Value Inn, in Smithtown before move in day at Stony Brook University. I wanted to stay on the campus hotel, but since it was booked in advance (my stepdad was lazy as hail booking me a room) I had to stay somewhere a bit farther. I called a few hours before leaving the motel at the 11 am check out time. The guy driving didn't show up to much late, but I didn't know what lay ahead... The old man who was the driver was the worst freaking driver in the universe!!! How he managed to STILL have his job after being such a shitty driver beats me. He was so rude, wouldn't take or listen to the directions I gave him to go the SBU campus and was unprofessional. He kept talking about how much he hates his job, that he has been working it for the past 50s years (the man looked like the cript keeper, no joke), he was mocking me with a child like voice when I told him the directions, and got angry when he didn't understand. He kept telling me the address and directions didn't matter and I quote, "We will get there when we get there." *sigh* When we did get to the campus, I told him what street to get on to go to my dorm until (the H quad), and let me tell you, it was hell on earth to get to where I needed to go. First he kept saying now he knows where he is going, except, you know, he actually didn't. We drove around circle road for a while and he started cursing and threw another fit. He decided to pull over and ask random students where the H quad was. I told him that I had the map and knew where it was but apparently my opinions didn't matter and he rudely asked random people walking around anyways. One guy obviously didn't know himself and pointed us to the University's hospital, which was on the other side of campus. I told this to the cab driver but he put up yet another fight and wanted to listen to the guy who gave us wrong directions. So here we are, once again going in the wrong direction to the Hospital. Once we get there he realizes that we are in the wrong place and then started to complain for the billionth time about how he hates his job and that god would "help his poor soul" (not even lying he kept saying that the whole time since he picked me up). Anyways, when he finally got in the right direction after talking him into listening to me and taking my directions we arrived at the H quad to which I wanted to jump out and run far away. We both got out, got my bags, and I paid the man and left to my dorm unit that I signed in at. He was such a mean spirited old man with disgusting service skills. Honestly, I don't care if you are a thousand years old, if you work a service job, treat your customer paying you with respect. I hope they let him go since he is too old anyways. *SMH* If I could, I would give this taxi service zero stars. They don't deserve a penny! Never again will I use this taxi service and I will warn other students and people to not use it either. If you could, use another taxi service. This was the WORST experience I've ever had. No, not worst taxi experience. I mean worst experience with a business I've ever had. I called Lindy's an hour in advance for a 9:15 AM pick up. Me: Hello, I'd like to reserve a cab. Disbatcher: Hold on, I can't FU*KIN' hear anything in here... Completely unprofessional, but to be honest who on earth talks to ANY stranger like that let alone a CUSTOMER. I was so upset by his language. In any case, by 9:19 there was no cab, and I call. I am told by the same dispatcher that it will be another 10-15 minutes longer. I let him know how upset I am because I took care to call in advance. If he could not accommodate my pick up time, no problem, I'll call elsewhere. I also let him know I am going to a doctor's appointment and I was going to be late. His response was was, "Sorry, don't know what else to tell you." And, HUNG UP the phone on me. I was irate. I waited *20* minutes and no one ever showed and Lindy's never called to give me any sort of update. In a panic, I called another company who was there in 5 minutes. I ended up being a half hour late to my appointment and the office was no longer able to take me. So thanks to Lindy's I wasted (round trip) $38 on cab fare, a missed DR. appointment that had been scheduled for several weeks in advance, and another morning off from work. I will NEVER use that company again. And, I make it my personal mission to let others know of my experience. In fact, I got off at a local train stop and saw an empty Lindy's cab waiting. I called another company and waited rather than giving that company a dime of my money. I've also let other businesses in my town know of this experience and given them the number to two other cab companies that I've found to be reliable, oh, and that don't drop the F bomb on their customers or hang up on them. Sorry, Lindy's you messed with an Elite Yelper for four consecutive years in a row. The worst cab company in the world. I made the same trip with them two times in the same day however the second time it was $8 more. The next day I call them again to go 1 minute further than where I had gone the day before. I was told one price right before making my stop at the bank. Once I come out.of the bank after making a deposit, I was told a higher price that was more by $8. The dispatch is called and he gets rude and ignorant saying that if I don't pay it he's going to call the police on me and to not call them again. I don't know How It's my fault that I don't have the right amount if I was told one thing and then all of a sudden something else. They just make up whatever price they want when They feel like it. Lindy's has a nice racket going on with the Ronkonkoma Station. They have an exclusive deal where their cabs (and their subsidiaries) are the only cabs at the station. The head guy coordinates which cabs you the customer can use, which means if he wants you to share a cab with strangers who take you out of the way and lengthen your ride home, you are SOL. I thought this was America where monopolies are squashed because they only crap all over the consumer. This company is a freaking joke. Use Uber. read more

I called here today to arrange for a car to pick me up from my home to take me to my mechanic to pick up my car. Instead of speaking to someone and receiving service I received nothing but aggravation after having to repeat my pick up location 8 times within a matter of 3 min, she even asked where I was going and went back to where are we picking you up from again. Also there was no language barrier we both speak English. At a time when taxi services like this one are complaining about Uber and lyft taking business from them maybe they should try and do a better more efficient job in order to try and compete, instead of bitch and complain and ask for government regulations to hurt Uber and lyft. I didn't have Lyft this week as my phone has been in the shop. I've been depending on Lindy's several times. In terms of service and timing, I would give them 3.5 out of 5 stars. In terms of pricing, it depends. My first ride from Stony Brook to Patchogue was very expensive and I was told that it was $3 a gallon. I paid it but otherwise the ride itself was mostly fine. Unfortunately there are some drivers who have been very inappropriate and it has really upset me. Being a woman who often travels on her own, safety is important to me. I suffer from Complex PTSD from repeated sexual harassment and abuse. Still, I want to live my life. I had an elderly driver, Tom, on Thursday night who made some very inappropriate remarks about spending the night, probing whether I had a significant other, that ruined my whole night. I had had Tom before and I had given him a generous tip. It angered and upset me enough that I hadn't left my hotel for four days, until tonight. I also had called and emailed Lindy's to alert them about the problem. I called the dispatcher, Doc, twice, and the first time he listened to me. He said he would talk to him about it and agreed it was creepy but he laughed and said Tom was "harmless." I called back to let him know that comment bothered me. But the second time, he acted much more reserved and didn't seem to take my concerns as seriously, instead telling me to call the manager Brian on Monday. As for the email, I sent it to info@lindystaxi.com and no one has responded to my concerns. And this evening, despite my better judgement, I gave Lindy's another chance because I wanted to go out to dinner and leave the hotel for a bit. I've called many other taxi companies as well but many of them are based in other towns and do not have anyone available. A gruff male voice was on the phone and I specified that I wanted a different driver, and I went as far as saying, "As long as nobody hits on me or touches me, it'll be fine." But the driver that eventually showed up, Don, a middle aged white man with glasses and a hefty frame, went way past the pickup point and I had to walk back and call the number again to reroute. When he did arrive, it seemed that the ride was going okay. I had one earphone on to have the semblance of not wanting to be disturbed. However, the restaurant I wanted to go to was closed and Don started muttering under his breath criticizing my dining choices, and explained that many places close early on the Island on Monday. I said okay and thanked him for that information, even though I was uncomfortable at the condescending way he was talking to me. He started talking to me and volunteering personal information like the fact that he'd had two strokes. I responded politely, and asked to get dropped off at a different restaurant. But while giving him the pay, he suddenly SLAPPED my calf hard, with the back of his hand, right below my left knee. I was shocked, and immediately said, "Don, please don't touch me, I don't like it." And to my utter shock, instead of apologizing, he asks, "How old are you?" (What the hell does that have to do with anything, and how does that justify the sudden physical assault he inflicted on my body?) I said I didn't want to answer those types of questions and opened the door. He comes up with some bullshit thing about how I must be younger than his daughter and when I continue reaffirming, "Please don't touch me," he said, "I was just saying goodbye." (Seriously, wtf?) I immediately got out and before closing the door said, "It doesn't matter, don't touch me, I don't like it!" Anyway, I go to the restaurant and I can't even enjoy myself. Now I'm wondering if I should call the police because I now realize this is battery. I don't know what it would do though as the authorities around here don't really seem to care. I called the dispatcher number immediately and the gruff male voice, Fred, answered. In the middle of my story he abruptly transferred me to a female colleague, Tracy, another dispatcher, and I told her what had just happened. I was crying in the middle of Green Tea Restaurant feeling horrible. I also told her about Tom as well. She was sympathetic but seemed resigned to think they couldn't do very much about Don's shocking behavior. I asked, "Please be very firm with him, this is unacceptable." She said, "Of course," and was sympathetic, but for some reason felt compelled to tell me that he might deny it. I ended up calling the hotel, shaken, and they ended up picking me up. But Lindy's needs to do a better job with their abusive male drivers. PLEASE DO NOT RIDE WITH DON. Update: I did end up notifying the police about the assault but be warned fellow Yelpers: you have the right to remain silent if they ask you leading questions. Shame on Sixth Precinct for lying to me, betraying my trust, victim blaming, and further traumatizing an assaulted person. I now understand why so many people hate the police. Fuck you. read more

Today around 2:45 I was behind vec 22 on the long island expressway. the car was driving about 30-42mph there was no vec in front of it from exit 36-exit 57 where it exit the LIE. I contacted the company twice the first time the female who answered told me i had the wrong number. I contacted them a second time where the same female answered and said " what car number? I will let the right people know about this" I Then contacted Suffolk county about this company. how there drivers are rude, have no respect for other drivers. Never having taken a cab on Long Island before I was reading reviews of this and other companies so was expecting a long wait. This was not the case. When I called, the dispatch asked if I was ready- I was- and he said maybe 10-15 minutes. The driver was there before then I think, and it was really great service. Considering I was going to walk from Starbucks on route 111 to Central Islip train station, I consider the $14 fare a bargain. Besides, anyone saying it's not may not take NYC yellow cabs- this includes the trip to come pick you up, those are usually flybys. read more

Nope. Only desperation will allow me to do this again. Literally, my LAST resort. The dispatchers are rude (Both Smithtown & Islandia). And I waited so long. My driver was fine, but I was charged $16 to be driven 4 miles away. Does not seem reasonable. read more

After a long day of (very badly delayed) travel, I decided that it would be preferable to take a car from the train station back home, just over a mile away. Unfortunately, my phone's battery decided that checking one of the apps for a ride was out of the question, so, despite having had bad experiences with them in the past, I decided that giving Lindy's another shot would be a better option than walking . I was wrong . After waiting longer than it would've taken me to walk, I was picked up by a driver who didn't seem very comfortable operating a motor vehicle. The ride was so short that, if not for the red light that the driver seemed so tempted to run, there would not have been enough time for dispatch tell him the exorbitant fare of eight dollars. Eight dollars for an uncomfortable ride of about a mile. How do thieves like this stay in business with ride-sharing apps that are faster, friendlier, and are staffed by drivers with newer, cleaner cars? I sincerely hope that I am never in a situation where I am desperate enough to call this company again. (ZERO stars should be an option, Yelp!) Edit: I looked at other reviews just to see if my experience was an unfortunate fluke. Not only does that not seem to be the case, but now I am curious to know if the reviewers who gave five stars were paid for their words. read more

Guy on the photo be is a rude self-righteous jerk! I never knew answering phones at a taxi company was such a classy, respectable occupation that warranted ridicule. Man, I'm such a horrible and reason... And the guy on the phone, (I'm sure) cures cancer on his time off. ORRRRRRRRDD MAYYYYYYYYYBE he's just a 700 lb. lard ass that's afraid of him too getting murdered in cold blood (in the dispatcher's office) like the last dispatcher.
