Norway - the land of the Midnight Sun, deep and turquoise fjords, absolutely fantastic seafood featuring some of the best herring, cod and salmon you will ever have, this tasty caramel flavored cheese called Brunost, gorgeous glaciers, sensational light displays in the winter in the Arctic - the Northern Lights. Then you take the Flam Railway on a beautifu, scenic and fun ride and head south or drive 180 miles from the capital Oslo to yet another beauty, the Lindesnes Lighthouse at the southern tip of Norway. I have been fortunate to have visited here twice. It is small barely 53 feet tall but majestic. Built from cast iron with a granite foundation 370 years ago, this lighthouse marks the entrance to the North Sea from the Baltic and Skagerrak Seas with a flashing white light visible for 20 miles.
This is a gorgeous, peaceful and calm site. It is open 24 hours and we were allowed to park overnight for some magnificent star gazing. Entry fees are the Norwegian Krone equivalent of US $10 for adults, $6 seniors, $ 4 kids and $20 for the overnight parking.
The local saying is that this lighthouse is a meeting place between sea and land and nature and culture.
Just picture yourself on this European trip 72 miles north of Denmark and a 168 miles east of England( the UK).
