1910 Block Estate RRV Zinfandel 2021
    Jerry C.

We started our Healdsburg wine tasting tour early with our first reservation at 11:00 am with Limerick Lane Cellars. LLC is a beautiful, peaceful world away from the huge tourist wineries. Limerick Lane Zinfandel vines have been here since 1910 and what a great chance to taste century-old estate wines! With a fantastic sunny spring day under cloudless skies, we began in Limerick Lane's small but beautiful tasting room for a refreshing Rosé 2022. Afterwards we walked into the vineyards to a long picnic table for tastings of their renowned Zinfandel: Squatter's Hill Zinfandel followed by 1910 Block Zinfandel, and finally Marquis Zinfandel, all 2021 vintage. To each their own, but my favorite Zinfandel was the second, a 1910 planted estate wine where only 12 barrels were produced in 2021. Spectacular, full bodied, robust and ready to drink or even rest 10 years. Probably the best Zin I've ever tasted! Our private reservation for three was personable, fun and relaxing tasting wine outside amount the vines. Linda, our hostess, provided as much detail and history as we desired. She certainly knows the Russian River Appellation, and she made it an enjoyable and educational experience!

Our experience here was beyond amazing. The location is beautiful, away from the big crowds (tourists) and big name wineries. The grounds are GORGEOUS! Very remote, think beautiful hills, green grass, sunshine and flowers. Our host was exceptional. He was down to earth and casually yet dramatically told us the amazing historical tale about this winery. I loved how he explained everything - from the families history, wine progression throughout the years, tasting notes, property facts, literally everything was presented in a digestible and incredibly amazing manner! Far too often do vineyards just pour a tasting, give you two sentences of information, then leave. This is different, amazing for the wine connoisseur or people wanting to learn more. Of course their Zins are amazing! We love zinfandel so we were so excited to be here. Their Zins drink lighter than most so think more like a pinot. Amazing flavor, lighter body and perfectly suited for everyday. Prices are spot on too and a bargain for the quality of wine you get in this region! I cannot wait to come back and tell absolutely everyone I know about this gem. If you have the opportunity to stop by you would be a fool not to.

So inviting and amazing wine! Second time here and it was as good as the first. Andy is an amazing host. Thank you!

We had a VIP tasting with Andy at Limerick Lane. It was the perfect quiet, relaxing afternoon with an up close discussion and tasting of old school hand farmed vineyards. Andy was such a gracious host, explaining the methods of sustainable farming of the vineyards and details about some of the oldest vines in Sonoma. We basked under the gentle sun while sipping sauvignon blanc, zinfandel, cabernet sauvignon and rosé. We tasted 3 bottles from Jesse Katz's collection, The Setting, as well as 3 bottles from Limerick Lane Cellars. There's a lot of love put into these wines and you can taste it in the final product. I am typically a dry red girl but I found a sauvignon blanc with a spicy yet smooth finish that I had to add to my collection. I highly recommend you visit Limerick Lane Cellars if you're in Sonoma.

We had a private tasting with Andy, and he and the wines were phenomenal! This was by far our favorite vineyard we saw - it was such a beautiful setting, and we got to learn not only about the wines, but also about the history of the area. Absolutely would go back!

This was a great way to kick off a few days of wine tasting in Sonoma County. It's a small family owned winery down a quiet, scenic back road. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The wines are sold through a mailing list allocation. Our initial tasting was of the Syrah Grenache, Rocky Knoll Zinfandel, Russian River Zinfandel and Hail Mary. All were great and we bought two bottles of each and signed up to be on the mailing list. We walked through the vines and tasted grapes from vines that were 100+ years old. We got to try two wines that haven't been released yet - 1910 Block Zinfandel and 1023 Zinfandel. Both were great and I hope to be able to buy some when it's available. If you're a fan of Zinfandel this is well worth a stop. Appointment only, so be sure to make one.

I like Zinfandels and so was interested in tasting at this winery. We were received in such a friendly manner. Wine of glass as soon as we arrived. Then we walked out into the vineyards to a private spot in such an amazing setting. Bucolic! Andy Tester helped us out. The wines were so amazing and the tasting was personal and engaging. He really cared and was interested. I wish we could have afforded to buy a case, but in time! Go and visit this gem.

Many wineries in Sonoma have become corporate and pretentious, which makes Limerick Lane a welcome change of scene. They are small, truly family run and welcoming. The biggest thing to note before you go is that it is by appointment only. It is a bit of the drive from the freeway, so it is worth a call to see if they can accommodate you. The tasting room is small and attached the cellar, with interesting decor. Mary was our host, and she was fantastic! We fell in love with the wine with the first sip of their Rose. It was a rainy day, but during the summers they pour right by the grapevines, we will be back during nicer weather.

Well, there is a Deco Zin 2005, Zinfandel 2004, 1026 (remember that - deep joy!) and a couple of Syrah 2006.

We chose to drop in Marine Layer Wines. The tasting room is located in a very nice area in beautiful downtown Healdsburg across Healdsburg square. Parking is accessible all around the street and Healdsburg square. The modern decor was beautiful and bright. There were plenty of tables and couches to accommodate all different size parties. The vibe was inviting and family friendly. There was a cozy fireplace in the front as well. We ordered a glass of Lyra Pinot Noir and a glass of Aries Chardonnay. My Pinot Noir was smooth while the wifey's Chardonnay was crisp and refreshing. The wine was great quality. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Marine Layer Wines. The staff was nice and helpful. If you are in Healdsburg this is my number one recommendation for wine tasting. They expertly pair the wine with dishes they make fresh on site. Our server Akayla was super patient and fun, she explained the history of the winery and told fun stories about the owners. The place was clean and organized. They knew exactly what they were doing and I am so impressed with the hospitality! The quantity of food you get with the food + pairings option is not enough for a meal, but perfect for a snack. We were told the lunch dishes are the same but bigger portions. My favorite dishes from the tasting was the Brick Cooked Chicken and the Chocolate Lamington Dessert. My favorite wine was not one that paired with those two, but it was called Elate Grange Cuvée which was a red blend. I was considering the wine membership but what attracted me the most was not the wine but the food + wine pairing experience. So although I didn't sign up to be a member, I will definitely come back as a customer! I want to bring my parents next time for either lunch with pairings or the food with pairings option.

If you had told me two years ago that I would confidently navigate a wine list or casually discuss soil types and native fermentation, I would have laughed. When I first walked into Lioco Tasting Room, I genuinely could not tell you whether I preferred white or red. Joining their wine club has since become one of the best investments I have made, not only in my wine knowledge, but in my social life. Lioco is the definition of thoughtful, terroir driven winemaking. Their wines lean fresh, vibrant, and balanced, with a restraint that feels very intentional. Nothing feels over extracted or manipulated. There is a purity to the fruit and a transparency to the vineyard sites that makes every tasting feel educational without ever feeling pretentious. The price point is also remarkably accessible for the level of quality they are pouring, which makes exploring their lineup feel exciting rather than intimidating. What sets this tasting room apart, though, is the people. Michael has been instrumental in helping me understand the why behind the wine, from farming practices and harvest decisions to fermentation and élevage. There is a genuine openness to sharing knowledge here. Questions are welcomed. Curiosity is encouraged. You never feel talked down to, only invited deeper. Over the past year as a member, I have watched myself grow up in my palate. I have learned what I gravitate toward and why. I have discovered that I love a coastal Chardonnay with tension and minerality, and that a light bodied Pinot with vibrant acidity can be more compelling than something heavy and oaky. That confidence now follows me everywhere. Any restaurant wine list feels approachable. Beyond the wine, Lioco is building something rare, real community. Their pickup parties feel more like gatherings of friends than transactional club events. Their Metiche pop up was a creative and intimate experience that remains one of my favorites. I have walked into events knowing only one person and left with new friends. That says everything. The space itself matches the vibe. In warmer months, there is nothing better than enjoying a glass of Estero on the patio. When it is raining, the bar becomes cozy and warm, often with records spinning in the background. It feels equal parts refined and relaxed, serious about wine but never judgmental. I have brought countless friends here for comprehensive tastings, and more than a few have ended up joining the club themselves. That, to me, is the strongest endorsement.
