It's been said that even bad ice cream is good ice cream, but that sadly isn't the case with the bland and boring Lilasù. I stopped in for an afternoon treat while walking around Bologna and I was sorely disappointed in the gelato here.
I ordered a small cup of zuppa inglese (eggnog trifle) and stracciatella (chocolate chip). The presentation was good, with added whipped cream and a wafer cookie, but the gelato was mediocre. It tasted fresh, but it was lacking that savory creaminess that I seek out in Italian ice cream.
The staff was friendly and pleasant and spoke little English. Definitely not a place that caters to tourists, which I loved! But there are far better places to find gelato in town. read more
