He knew how to compose shots and make them look great. But most important, the pictures came out wonderful! For me, that was wedding photos. There are a lot of photographers who produce highly stylized - and to be clear, very beautiful - photos. Some give off a dark, glamorous vibe; and others use a sort of tan/whitewashing filter. While I really like those looks, for my wedding, I wanted a photographer whose photos looked less stylized, and more like really good quality, truer-to-life pictures. When I saw Sweetwater's pics, I knew I'd found my photographer...and that was reaffirmed after I chatted with Dutch, and after he helped my husband and me make decisions about where to take photos, what we wanted to capture, etc. On the day of the wedding, Dutch and his team were AWESOME. They were organized, attentive, and kept everyone on track. They were also so fun to work with, and they more than played along with the very goofy sense of humor that my husband and I have. Everyone in my wedding party was talking about them, saying how great they were, and for good reason. They killed it. As for the photos themselves, I've gotten so many compliments since posting them. As self-conscious as I am, they made me feel so beautiful, and I cannot recommend booking them enough. (Also of note is that he is part of a wedding services collective worth checking out called "Rabbit Rabbit Crew" which is a curated group of small businesses for every aspect of your perfectly styled wedding) On our big day, Ian showed up right on time to the loft where my girls and I were getting ready as per a timeline/shot list that he had us send to him before the day so that everything would run smoothly. He was completely at ease moving around the space, shooting stealthily and casually chatting, but not at all being intrusive. As we moved on to the church and then the reception site he was right there capturing everything and even stopped off with us at a coffeeshop to shoot some awesome photos of us two in our natural habitat. The photos we got back were so lovely and perfectly captured the spirit of the day- I really couldn't have higher praise for his work. For the most part the pictures were documentary in style with just enough posed shots and each and every picture was thoughtful. With his relaxed style you will get photographs that are natural, not staged or cheesy. They have a timeless eloquence to them we adore. Not only is Ian a master at his art, but he is passionate about his art. An ex. that highlights his passion follows. The morning of our wedding Ian drove around an area he was unfamiliar with to search for a first-look location for us. He could have easily done the first look in our hotel, however he took it upon himself to find a beautiful place instead since we hadn't a spot in mind when he asked. Seeing Ian go above and beyond for us set the stage for his professional services throughout the rest of the day. He has a creative eye and found cool ways to shoot that not any photographer would consider. For ex. at our reception Ian took pictures of us inside a field of flowers off the beaten path. We would have never thought of that, but leave it to Ian and he will come up with amazingly creative ideas in the moment. Ian genuinely cares about you and your guests. He took time to meet before the wedding to discuss the timeline for the day. He accommodated all requests. When you contact Ian he responds promptly. We have been to a lot of weddings and have been photographed as part of wedding parties. Ian is the best and most fun photographer we both have worked with yet. We would love to say that working with Studio Nine Photography was a pleasant delight but…read moreunfortunately their lack of professionalism is quite appalling and it honestly ruined our experience. While the quality of photos taken were nice, we regret trusting this studio with our wedding photos. Our first complaint is with our photographer, leading up to the wedding we were very open about specific photos we would have liked to be taken with family members. We shared a small list of the photos we would have liked, we didn't even receive half of these images. The words "Millitant" and "Drill Sergeant" were the kinder terms used to describe our photographer during the day of our wedding. Guests were yelled at, chairs were thrown, and while we hoped this was a process for getting the best images on our memorable day, yelling at elderly guests that they need to walk faster or they will not be in any photos is incredibly rude. Because of this behavior we were unable to have many photos with grandparents or elderly family members on our wedding day. After the wedding, our photographer posted a photo on her social media site to scorn our family members for having phones out during the ceremony. These were very clear images, it was easy to identify our guests, and it is completely unprofessional to shame wedding guests especially since our wedding was not "unplugged" nor did any members of the Studio Nine Photography group speak with us previously about phone usage. The first photos shared by members of this company for our wedding were shaming our guests. When we finally received our wedding photos, many images were lacking the creativity that was shown to us when we interviewed Studio Nine. We were shown super imposed images and told that the photographer would bring their own lighting to add to the creativity of our day, none of the images we received had these effects. It was unfortunate. Of course we reached out to Studio Nine to identify these issues and their response was what really turned us off with our experience. We were told that the reason some creativity was lacking in the photos was due to no communication on their part and a lack of time. Being the bride and groom, we were able to set up the timing of the wedding and could have pushed our cocktail time over to get the photos we wanted or the time the photographer needed. Studio Nine never communicated with anything about what they needed, they only told us that they would be able to create these photos. Studio Nine also agreed with us that our photographer behaved unprofessionally, but there was nothing they could do about it and could only consider it for future clients. So I am sharing with all potential future clients. My husband and I would not recommend working with a company who is lacking in effective communication, who's photographers feel entitled to subject your guests to online embarrassment, and who, after the fact, say there's nothing more they can do for you because they need to worry about future clientele instead of current clients. We regret considering this company an honest and professional organization. During the course leading up to the event they worked diligently to make sure that the photo strip artwork was exactly what my son wanted. They produced numerous options for us and made the final product better than we could have hoped for! We purchased the package that included a memory book. I highly recommend this as they do an fabulous job of putting the pictures into it and they give you a ton of pictures after the event so you can add to it as well. It's a really cool souvenir to own. One of the other amazing services they provided is a link of all the photos that were taken from the evening so you could print them in larger formats as well.
