I wanted to walk around the entire place before ordering more food from Taquiza Sinaloense. There was a really nice lady there who told us that their food is the best, and she said she knew we'd be back. She was right! Although other booths had appetizing food, it just didn't compare. Their presentation was beautiful! We each ordered a plate, which included rice, beans, and our choice of two items. The guy who helped us was so nice and let me sample a few items before I made my decision. My husband ordered chile verde and beef. I ordered chipotle chicken and this amazing mixture of chiles, corn, and cheese. OMG! It was incredibly delicious! Each plate was $14, which is a great price since we both had leftovers. When we went, there wasn't any music, but maybe that starts later and we didn't really stay long since you can walk through the whole market pretty quickly. You can tell the students really put their heart into making the whole event feel welcoming and organized. Got there when the event first open, crowd was too massive and was able to take some really great pictures in the Pumpkin area. The petting zoo was really fun- Goats and herds of sheep were walking around the petting area awaiting to be fed (really liked the cleaning station near the exit for easy hand washing), animals were really mellow- which created a fun environment for kids. My fiance and friends perused the options of food and along the way, a few beverage vendors offered us free samples. The watermelon drink was noteworthy. All 4 of us opted for different vendors. My choice was the truffle veggie burger and bottled water for 14. Super tasty burger. Pleased they have vegetarian and vegan options. My fiance opted for a Hawaiian plate at Shootz. He said the loco moco was solid as was the spam musubi. Friends opted for a noodle and veggie bowl topped with an over hard egg. The other dish chosen was chicken + waffle. The consensus was all 4 star meals at an average $15/plate. I would not have gone to Panana had it not been for the free admission tix. The Filipino food vendor offered up $6 unlimited drinks so the fiance ended up getting refills on melon drinks (tasty and not too sweet) and just one mango drink. (too sweet) The entertainment could use some improvements. The poor rock band on stage did not get much attention while the dancers from Venice were doing their thing below with the crowds around them. They also could have had more table to eat at. Fortunately, our group had a table, although the lady w/a child before us failed to throw her trash away. We did it for her after she left. They had different vendors this time and I was curious to see how they were. This go-around there was a Filipino vendor via the Kapamilya Restaurant. They had various bbq sticks and street food. Combos with two items were $10. I got to try the chicken bbq stick and it was ok. It's a bit more pricey than outside Filipino food. QQ-Ball 2016 offering Taiwanese puffy cakes was also a new vendor. They had a special $5 puffy cakes with ice cream. I tried this with cookies and cream and this made for a nice dessert. I wanted to try their character puffy cakes (they had Hello Kitty) but for $7 for 4 pieces and no ice cream; I thought the special $5 was a better deal. Another new vendor was YouMe Hot Dog; offering sausage and mozzarella hot dogs. I have to say this was my favorite! It looked very simple but the batter was delicious. It is definitely one of the best corn dogs I've had ever. This was only $5. Sutekiya Catering was also new and they were offering the cutest bear curries for $10. This was definitely instagram worthy. Mr Bully 909 was a vendor that was there the last go-around but I didn't get to try it. For this visit; I finally got to check it out. I got their Korean bbq ribs along with their bulgogi cheese fries for $15. This was actually another entree I really liked. I loved how the ribs were tender and meaty. The fries were also quite tasty. Overall as many have mentioned; food can get pricey. Hooray for another new free con at Frank's…read more Cosplay Con was CROWDED. They had to have a shuttle service and everything. Loads of people coming from every which was just to meet Stan Lee. While I was taking a break, catching up on "Saga," a woman sat down next to me and we started chatting. Apparently she'd driven down from Seattle for this. I was astonished. Though Uncle Stan's health and recent canceled appearances might have been a factor, it's amazing that these free little cons aren't just attended by the locals anymore. Anyway, I had a lot of fun and all the cosplayers who came were great. Other than a costume contest near the end of the day, there wasn't really any programming, so you were either there for signatures (Stan, J. Scott Campbell, Rob Liefeld, etc) or you were just checking out what people were wearing. There were several known cosplayers and groups there with booths: the 501st, Mandalorians, Avengers Initiative, Ivy Doomkitty, Krystal Method, and so on. People were dressed as all sorts of things: superheroes, stormtroopers, Walt from "Breaking Bad," a female Daryl from "Walking Dead," Stay Stuft with the 10th Doctor in tow, and members of KISS among other things. Great job putting this together, guys. Keep it up!

Another year, another trek to the Pomona Fairgrounds for the L.A. County Fair! This was our 8th…read moretime at the fair so I think it's safe to say we're pros at this by now! Always pay for your tickets and parking ahead of time for cheaper prices. If you're not into the games, always enter the fair by the Plaza De Las Americas - easy access to restrooms before you start your day, and King Taco always hits the spot if you want to grab a quick bite! For the 2026 fair, we were adventurous and saw a concert (actually two for the price of one) - Banda El Recodo and Banda Los Recoditos. All the years we've been here, we never saw a concert until now. If you get the opportunity, definitely check it out! Our seats were Section SS4 in Row S, so it was in the first section right in front of the stage. The chairs are tied together, so when seated everyone is elbow-to-elbow (not the most comfortable), but most people stand during the concert anyways so it wasn't too bad. There's a cheaper standing zone a little further away if you don't want to sit and there's bleachers all the way in the back if you really want some space. Honestly, no matter where you are, the music is going to be bumping and you'll see the artists on the big screens anyways. Since concert tickets include free admission to the fair, we went early to check out the usual sights. The Culture of the Low and the Slow is always a must to see lowriders and fantastic car art. They even offer a retro portrait photo booth this year (very fun)! The exhibit halls all offer different things and vendors. We like that they have a Big Free Little Library, so if you're a bookworm like myself it's worth giving it a look to see if there's any free book you want to take home. If you're feeling nostalgic, there's a Retro Row Exhibit that features KITT from Knight Rider, the DeLorean time machine from Back to the Future, and photo-ops (like a classic Pizza Hut, a video-store, an 80s bedroom, and more). Skate-R-Cade is also back, so if you want to play some arcade games or skate around on roller skates, this is the spot to look for! It wouldn't be the L.A. County Fair without ridiculous gluttonous food to clog your arteries with! This year we had a burrito and tacos from King Taco (the sauces are guaranteed to clean your sinuses), strawberry funnel cake from Funnel of Love (absolutely huge), fried zucchini and a buffalo chicken mac & cheese cone from Chicken Charlie's (personal favorite). A good number of vendors are part of the $10 value menu, so keep an eye out for those items if you want to get your grub on for cheap. The Longboard Bard & Lounge is bumping every night, so this is the spot if you want to have a few drinks and dance. Overall the 2026 L.A. County Fair is a good time and there's something for everyone here. Get your walking shoes on, use sunscreen, hydrate, and have fun!

The experience is exactly what I remembered when I last attended one 10ish years ago, but it does feel smaller than before. In any case, it's a fun place to go with your family (like I did this time around) or a date with your special someone. Many carnival games and rides for all ages, bbq and deep fried foods that fairs have been famous for (a lot of food items with pickles?), petting zoos, animal interactions, pig races, and a bunch of shopping stalls. One thing that really bothered me was how some of the sales people at the stalls go over line to get you into their stalls. I was stopped numerous times by sneakers cleaning people who wanted to demo and sell me their products. I was ok with them trying to get my attention, what I wasn't ok with was one of the stalls had one guy who came out to me while i was standing in the middle of an aisle and sprayed my 2nd time worn Balenciaga tracks without permission. They are new, I don't need you spraying chemicals and scrubbing on my new shoes! Now I had to stand in his station to clean off that one shoe. Once he was done cleaning that one shoe, he tried to point out the difference compared to my other one... they looked exactly the same after his product dried off 20 seconds later. I was quite annoyed. Except for the above moment, the rest of the day was pretty cool. I had a $22 funnel cake that was the size of a small pizza, and I was pretty good. I couldn't finish it (not even sure two people can), but it tasted like strawberry and custard donuts.

What you want to do is walk around first then come back for the performances. I enjoyed the dragon on the floating water. Different dragons and monsters to ride for photos. I think I would come back here with a group. Definitely a good date event.

While the…read moreconcept was great, the venue was small, the lines were long, and many vendors ran out of food while people were still waiting in line. I was disappointed, and left hungry. Fast forward to this year. I actually found out about this on accident a few days ago while at a local coffeehouse owned by a Taiwanese couple. They had a flyer for the Ramen festival which guaranteed 2 for 1 admission. Intrigued, I looked at it, saw it was going to be held at the Pomona Fairplex which is near my place in La Verne, so I figured I would give it a try. I really liked how there was NO LINE whatsoever to get in - granted, I went around 4:00 PM, but I walked right in. The lines to get ramen were maybe 3 or 4 people deep, that's it. So much better than the 45-60 minute wait last year! There were eleven vendors on hand, from Tokyo, Osaka, Fukushima, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Ramen Vendors ----------------------- Wakamusha/Tanatsumono from Fukushima, Japan Toyama Black Shoyo Ramen (Iroha) from Toyama, Japan Satsuma Ramen (Shin-Sen-Gumi) from Kagoshima, Japan and Los Angeles Kohmen Ramen from Ikebukoro, Tokyo, Japan, Hiromau Ramen, fusion ramen champion from Toyama / Las Vegas Burger Ramen by Keizo Shimamoto from Los Angeles Tsujita Ramen from Tokyo and Los Angeles Monta Tonkotsu Ramen from Las Vegas Norio Ramen from Namba, Osaka, Japan Men Oh Ramen from Tokushima, Japan with a store in San Francisco Hide Chan Ramen from Hakata, Kyushu, Japn There were additional food carts as well, such as a Takoyaki stand, Okonomiyaki, and Steamed Pork Rolls. Also, there was a fluff ice truck - so very good! It's basically frozen cotton candy with condensed milk and your choice of toppings. I chose the "Candy Factory" option - strawberry fluffed ice with condensed milk, mini gummy bears, and sprinkles. Don't judge, it looked and tasted divine. I had two ramen bowls, and tried a third (my father's). I will review the two I chose first. I only chose ramen I could not order here in the United States. My choices were Wakamusha/Tanatsumono and Kohmen. Wakamusha & Tanatumono - A collaboration of two leading ramen shops in Fukushima, Japan. This was a mild miso broth with chicken. This was a special treat because this combination of ramen was only available at the event! They used a 100 year old house miso recipe, Horaiya's koji miso. To say this was delicious would be an understatement. Served with corn, sprouts, scallions, miso and chicken, in a chicken broth, plus of course, the noodles, this was my favorite of the two ramens I tasted. Khomen (Koumen) - In 2010, the Japanese TV show "Shittoko" selected this as their Fusion Ramen champion. Hiromaru Ramen started as a small noodle shop in the middle of a rice field in the small town of Toyama, Japan with just two people: Mr. Kawai, and his mother. Mr. Kawai was a world class track athlete competing for Japan's national team, but for economic reasons, he chose to switch his career to making ramen in Japan. He worked day and night to provide his customers with the best organic noodles. Soon, word of his ramen spread, and his business grew. To meet his customer's overwhelming demands, he started a catering Ramen truck. Kawai has continuously put effort into developing new and creative ramen, and he has more than 100 different ramen recipes. Hiromaru, in Japanese, means, "from Japan to the world, full of the love of Ramen". Ok, history lesson over. I chose Khomen, because they added a chili paste to the broth to make it spicy. I'm not an expert on ramen, and I'm not able to describe the different flavors between the two in a way which would do it justice. I will say the broth was a Spicy Jukusei broth, and it was served with noodles, scallions, pork, seaweed and bamboo. It was really good. I probably loved this broth more than Wakamusha's broth. My father tried ramen from Norio, which heralds itself as the Number one local favorite in Osaka. The broth was Tonkotsu with chicken and served with noodles, chicken, scallions, bamboo and seaweed. It had a mild flavor with a creamy consistency, but that is standard with traditional Tonkotsu broths. It was tasty, but not my favorite. All in all, the event was handled much better this year, however I was disappointed to see it didn't seem as popular as last year. While having less people is good so people do not have to wait, I certainly hope it doesn't scare away vendors from doing this again next year. P.S. Parking is $10 at the Fairplex, so if you can carpool, or walk, it'll save you money! Also, you will need cash to get in, and most of the vendors are cash only (although some have Square).

The parking was $10.00 and was fairly close to the destination. There was a guy handing out buy one get one entrance fee coupons and since I love a good deal I was excited for the $5.00 discount. You were given the option to buy food tickets for the ramen at entry or inside. I bought two at $8.00 each. They also gave us free Pocky's...bonus again! Upon entry their were vending booths, not very many but I wasn't really expecting them anyway. They had plenty of tables set up and a large screen where they showe anime. After the anime they had a performer singing the hits and she was actually pretty good...no karaoke. They also had a car show with some souped up rides which were fun to look at. Just outside the building was where the ramen vendors were set up. We scoped out all the vendors before selecting our bowls. I went with Tsujitas booth, it was excellent up until I saw a hair in my ramen...yuk! I also tried the ramen burger ($15), now that is one item I would buy again. The burger had bacon and eggs in it with a really nice sauce. Overall it was pretty great, I wish it was bigger though. Hopefully they continue to grow. Can't wait for next year.

You make one, you get a prize. You make two, you get to choose your prize. This is one of those events that is a beer festival and a masquerade. Come dressed up as whatever you want to be and sample as many beers as you would like to try. A few that I do like that Karl Strauss has with kiwi infused. My mouth is already watering just writing this as it is not like a cider. It's like the idea of a ShockTop beer but way more fruit in it. No, not like a Corona where you squeeze your own lime wedge in a little bottle opening. It's already in the beer but very tart and sour. I think it's very dangerous because I can chug this just to quench my thirst. Another one I liked is the booth all the way from Iceland. Einstök Ölgerd in Akureyri, Iceland. What I liked is their coffee stout. A rich coffee flavor with a hint of brew. It's not like water but more a full body sort of taste. I would hang out at this booth all night but there are many other booths to visit. There were awesome costumes from superheroes to villains and monsters and just whatever you want to wear. Literally whatever you want to wear. There's also a giant game of Jenga in the middle and a live band playing all the current hits you hear on the radio. Just a big open space to run around in. A few food booths just outside of the arena. Restrooms are in that direction too. This is one of those events I would not mind going to again and maybe I will wear a costume too.
