The staff is very friendly and all speak English (which I found was not that common in Germany). The room was really nice and picture perfect clean, literally couldn't find a single flaw. The hostel is open 24 hours so you have time to explore Cologne as long as you want. The breakfast was great as well with a nice and calm ambiance. This combined with the location, price, cheap parking in own garage and great public transport access nearby (and public transport guidance by the hostel staff) I couldn't recommend it more. We were mostly worried about the community bathrooms and shower but they were very clean and nice. We decided to check out the bar downstairs and met lots of English speakers because they have you put on flag stickers of the language(s) you speak. Drinks were pretty well priced especially for the specials. In the morning we ordered the breakfast which was a good vegan breakfast. One of my favorite features of the hostel is that the floors lock so you need a key for the elevator. It made us feel safe especially with the bar on the bottom floor. I'd highly suggest this hostel to anyone but especially first time hostel goers. It's an nice easy transition from hotel to hostel.

The hostel is within walking distance to almost anything you'd like to see in Cologne. Also only about a half mile's walk from the hauptbahnhof for travelers. The hostel is kept so clean and ran so well that it feels like you've gotten a great bargain on a hotel. It can be tricky to locate the hostel as it shares a building with many other businesses. The door is hidden between a convenience store and cafe and reached by elevator or stairs. -hairdryers and towels can be borrowed. -lockable closets are in each room. -washers and dryers are available. -full kitchen provided.

The WiFi is free and works, but it could use some upgrading. Location is nice, beds are fine. Worth the money? Not quite, but it'll do. It's definitely a "just passing through town" type place. Good things: Rooms are quite spacious with high ceilings and good head space between the bottom and top bunk. The radiator is warm. There are locking cubbies in each room for rent with a coin deposit. You get your coin back when you unlock it. Also, it is right by the Hbf., so it is not a long walk from the trains! It is also a short walk from pretty much anything you could possibly need. Bad things: The WiFi is okay quality (free!), but I had a lot of problems with the connection loading anything. One reviewer mentions needing a new WiFi code every 10 hours, but they have since changed things up. Now, you are disconnected every 1 hour and have to reconnect (I usually had problems reconnecting every time it bumped me off). The beds could use some beautification as they are made of lacquered plywood. Worth noting: It seems like the rooms could use some extra scrubbing. The shower stall wasn't the cleanest and a weird smell was coming from the drain. The carpet might need a deep clean too, but I mean it is a hostel. You make your own bed upon arrival, but linen charges are included in the price you pay. You DO NOT get a towel! A 10€ key deposit is due when you check in and is returned at check out. You receive a standard metal key (not a keycard) that unlocks your room. There is a reasonably busy street (highway?) on the west side of the building, so street noise might be a problem for some. You can also hear the train station and information announcements. I think I hear squeaking and pattering of critters in the ceiling, but I can't be certain. No evidence of critters or bugs in the rooms.

This place is so clean…read more I had great, quiet but friendly roommates, our 4-bed room was not expensive at all, and you can get a kolsch in the bar/coffeeshop downstairs. It is very secure-if you arrive after (midnight i believe???), you can only use the side door, and a staff member must let you in. It is in a good part of town, not too long of a ride from the cathedral. It would be nice if they had wireless throughout, but never had to wait long to use their computer. Friendly, very helpful staff can give you lots of tips on where to go exploring.

This was my first time in Cologne and I cancelled my Novotel reservation due to my local friend advised me that it was not in a safe location. I relocated to this hostel/hotel and was told its in the safe area which I have regretted to have done. Check in was smooth and although the amenities were limited it was clean. Things were good until I had to garage my rental car. For €15 you can choose to park your car into their supposed "safe and secure" garage. I was awaken by a knock on my door at 01:30 telling me my car has been broken into. WHAT?! The police have been called please come downstairs to check if it is your car and if you have left any belongings there that might have been stolen. . Went downstairs and met the front desk guy with a frustrated and disbelief look on his face. There were others gathered. SECURED?! CCTV?! Nothing. Made claims to the police and lost a day. A&O refuse to take responsibility or even acknowledge the problem/incident. Only give the phone number to the police. The manager wouldn't even speak to us and give me the general service phone number that when called it took hours to be picked up. Will NEVER come back to this A&O! BEWARE OF THIS PLACE! The kind service people who works for this hostel/hotel are wasted in this type of company.
