Years ago, Kevin Schiff did some general maintenance on my plane, and I had no complaints; however,…read morehe ultimately (mis)diagnosed a suspected crankshaft failure. Per his estimate, the repair would cost between $10000 and $15000, and my heart sank. After some research, I decided to first have the crankshaft thoroughly boroscoped and mechanically examined by an FAA-certified engine specialist before agreeing to such major repair. The inspection cost me a good chunk of money, but no damage to the crankshaft was found. None. I got it in writing, too. I can only assume he was embarrassed about getting it so wrong, as Mr. Schiff quickly advised that he would not work on the plane again in the future. Entirely his decision, of course. I found another experienced mechanic in no time and continued flying my bird for hundreds of hours without any problem. The plane is living out of state today, still flying high - with the same crankshaft.

I own a 1978 Piper Warrior, which I keep at KWHP. Kevin has always come through for me. He's a…read morecompetent, detailed and fair A&P. With almost every repair, Kevin texted me pictures of the repair and parts he fabricated or replaced. If you're in the valley and own a piston aircraft, you can't go wrong with him. Before my IFR checkride he helped to make sure all the ADs had been complied with, placards were in place, and that the aircraft was in tip-top shape. I'm also one of those last minute ADS-B installs, and I'm sure I was more of a pain in his ass than anything, but when I called him a week before 2020 I felt like he wanted to make sure I was ADS-B compliant more than me! He ended up fitting me in on the 30th, and I'm good to fly Jan 2020. Keep in mind that as a PIC and aircraft owner, it's YOUR responsibility to make sure the aircraft is safe and airworthy, no one elses. But if you're in the market for a good mechanic, he'll make sure the wings stay on and the engine runs.

Here's to the Jetset life!…read more Out of all the Private Airport's that I've flown out of, I would have to say that this is by far the best one. The lounge area has high ceilings and is super clean and the staff is extremely efficient with unloading your bags right when you pull up with your car. After they unload your bags onto the cart like clockwork, it's easy to find parking a few steps away. The location it's just south of LAX and doesn't do well with navigation because it'll take you around in circles on Imperial Highway whether you use Apple Maps, Google maps or Waze, so be careful not to miss the tiny little driveway. Immediately as you turn into the driveway take a sharp right and head straight down to the last parking lot where you'll easily see suited bell boys waiting to take your bags. Service has been extremely consistent here. I believe I might've flown out of this airport over 15 times in less than six months. They serve champagne and offer snacks and their bathrooms are really clean. If there isn't champagne the concierge will definitely make an effort to get some for you. It's usually never crowded and the most I've ever seen were two other people waiting for their planes or ride to come and the lounge clears up right away. This is the best private airport that I've flown out of from California to Nevada.

When you are rolling with your homies VIP style via private jet out of Santa Monica Airport (SMO)…read moreyou have no worries about parking because it is a small parking lot and there is plenty of room for you and no parking fees too. Ok...it was my one time brush with getting a taste of the good life. Some friends of mine were picking me up at the Executive Terminal at Supermarine to fly me to Monterey to meet up with my SO who was driving down from San Francisco (yeah...he was sooo jealous). Anyways, I parked and entered the terminal. It is more like a huge airport lounge but everyone is dressed up. I was a bit nervous but very excited about my first and only (hopefully not last) private jet flight. I tried to act like HELL I DO THIS EVERY DAY so I wouldn't stand out as a phony so I did not take photos or look around for details. I just sat down and picked up a magazine dedicated for private jet enthusiasts and thumbed through the ads for multimillion dollar jets that are custom made and waited for my call from my friends. I finally got the call and had to wait to be escorted to the tarmac. There I met my friend and boarded the plane. It was amazing. Oh...it was just a brand new custom made Cessna Citation X the low end Citations only about $25 million.
