This is the first place I visit when I need a new pair of football boots because I know the staff are knowledgeable and will provide a genuine insight in to your purchase. This was the case yesterday, I went in with the aim of getting a pair of football boots with thicker leather and while I was caressing (that makes it sound creepy) the various boots on display a helpful member of staff approached me and asked what I was looking for (or maybe it was 'what are you doing!?'). When I told him my plight he brought me out a whole host of boots that had thicker leather, unfortunately none of them were in my size! That's my only tiny niggle with SS Moore, they don't have a huge stock and tend to sell out quickly. If you're looking for regional sports kits like Linfield, The Ulster Rugby Team or the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey Jersey this is one of the few places, excluding the official shops, that you can get them. There aren't many better sports shops around in my opinion - if you're looking for something specific or niche make SS Moore's your first stop.

SS Moore sales sports equipment for a wide range of sports, both mainstream and the smaller sports. Their staff have a great knowledge of the equipment they sell and will always help you make the right choice. My experience of this shop and their great staff was when I was looking for a new football kit for the Sunday league team I play for. SS Moore have a wide range of catalogues to look through and they are always willing to recommend which offer they think will best suit you and they don't charge extra for having the kits delivered to their shop! They were a great help and I'll be going here more often for anything remotely sporty!

So off I set and was amazed to find a large modern shop stocked to the rafters with uniforms for squirrels, beavers, cubs and scouts. They also sell general outdoor and walking equipment, camping gear and wet suits. The majority of the clothes and equipment belong to a world I find quite alien (walking through choice? And not because you have to? What's that all about?) but even I could tell that there is a huge range of sturdy looking coats and boots and back packs. When I went in, I was served quickly and efficiently by a knowledgeable sales assistant and was in and out within minutes with all the stuff I needed. I also made an impulse buy at the till - one of those little hand warmer packets which I tried out on Saturday while watching number two son playing rugby. What a good mummy I am.

Having had a preliminary look and been assured by staff that there would be plenty of stock in my size I decided to come back the following day and found an excellent price reduction -£90 down to £50. Assistance was enthusistically offered but took them a while to find my size, there was some confusion over where things were though one clued up girl knew all along where it was. There is also a range of summer clothes evidently aimed at backpacking holidays as well as weather proof jackets and coats. It's somewhat bland perhaps but still a useful addition to Belfast City Centre.

Now, camping / outdoor pursuits and I go together like chalk and cheese. The only time I have been in a tent has been at a Christian Festival at the King's Hall (for five years running, granted), but it wasn't camping in the true sense. We had toilets, electricity and food all available nearby, and there was no requirement for all the heavy duty clothing etc. that comes with camping...thank heavens. As you can gather from the above information, I had no real need to go into Black's, but it looked much more interesting than some of the other camping shops, so I decided to have a look. I was pleasantly surprised to see a rather nice collection of ladies clothing - floral tops, floaty skirts and attractive jeans / trousers were a world away from the dull raincoats and khaki outfits you immediately associate with these kind of stores. They had a fab sale on too, which meant that the already affordable clothes were practically given away - I saw a dress for £9.99, that had been £39.99! Of course, there's still all the average camp store stock - heavy duty coats, fleeces, walking shoes, sleeping bags, tents, camping furniture, rucksacks and so on. But still, those clothes were pretty sweet...

The store has been sectioned off in to fashion, a boot room, sports zone and shoe area. It's divided by the neon signs I mentioned. It's deceivingly large and stocks the largest range of EPL football shirts I have ever seen. There also seems to be a real focus on local sports too with Antrim GAA and Ulster Rugby tops among those on sale! When I was in it seemed well staffed - I was asked on a few occasions if I wanted help but I was just having a wee nosey! Nice addition to Victoria Square and a great look and feel about it!

Located within Holywood Exchange retail park, Decathlon is the cheapest sports shop (warehouse)…read morearound. No matter what you're looking for Decathlon will have it. They have everything from Canoes to Dart Boards. Often with cheaper sports shops you sacrifice quality for price but this is not the case at Decathlon. They sell their own brand items called Kipsta and I must say that these aren't great quality but likewise they sell big name brands like Nike and Adidas at a lower price than other High Street stores. This Decathlon is huge - you could spend a full afternoon here wandering through the isles. I would make a list of what you want before visiting or else you'll come out with a new home gym and nowhere to put it. Great parking is also available - really handy if you are buying a bigger item and need to cart to the car.

I have bought cycling helmets, gloves, goggles, clothing and ski equipment, many big name brands are available and at better prices than other sports stores. They have a loyalty card scheme too.
