If your child's lawyer suggests hiring Dr. Simun for a psychological evaluation or IEE, I would…read morestrongly recommend thinking twice. From the start, my experience was unsettling. When I first called her office, the voicemail sounded like a personal conversation followed by screaming. It felt bizarre and unprofessional. Unfortunately, things didn't improve from there. The office seemed disorganized, and the forms I was asked to complete felt excessive and unrelated to my child's specific needs. During the evaluation, I felt that Dr. Simun wasn't providing an objective assessment. My child, who is autistic, engages in repetitive behaviors and speech patterns, often repeating random phrases. Instead of addressing or acknowledging this, Dr. Simun acted as though everything my child said made sense. To me, this came across as dismissive, as though she wasn't engaging with the behaviors that really needed attention. If you're looking to secure additional services or accommodations from the school district, I wouldn't expect her to advocate for you. In my experience, the school district actually seemed more understanding of my child's needs than she did. I was surprised and disappointed, especially considering that my lawyer had recommended her. Perhaps her approach worked for others in the past, but I personally found her dismissive of parental insights and overly confident in her own perspective. I wouldn't feel comfortable relying on her judgment. One major concern I had was regarding confidentiality. Without asking for our consent, Dr. Simun shared personal information about my child with a student observer before we even arrived. She also had this student present throughout the assessment without seeking our permission. During the evaluation itself, my child often gave incorrect answers, but Dr. Simun kept praising her with phrases like "Good job, that's correct," or offering multiple chances to change her answer until it was right. She even pointed to the correct answer several times throughout the assessment. This led me to believe that she was not providing an objective evaluation. Overall, I felt that her attitude of 'appearing to know better than anyone else' was unhelpful and even harmful in a situation where vulnerable individuals rely on accurate evaluations. Also, I'm not someone who usually focuses on "energy" or "vibes," but I couldn't ignore how uncomfortable her presence made me feel. It added to the stress of an already difficult situation. This review reflects my honest experience and personal opinions based on our visit.

Our experience with Dr. Grewal has been…read morenothing short of exceptional and I would feel completely comfortable if my family or I were ever under his care again. Our Story: My dad, 52 years old, experienced a heart attack and it was recommended that coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) be performed. Having never gone through such a serious procedure, our concerns were tied to whether we were making the best decision in support of my father's health & treatment... the answer is a resounding YES! From the beginning, Dr. Grewal was comforting and informative, and never pressured us into opting for surgery. However, with my dad's condition and long-term health in mind, he did educate us on the scenario and how CABG would, ultimately, be his best option. My dad opted for the CABG. It was scheduled within the same week. The day before my dad's surgery, I gave Dr. Grewal a call to ease my mind of a common truth - we don't all have the luxury of spectacular health insurance... and I think that can mislead us into believing we are receiving sub-prime care. In our case, my dad was at a hospital which doesn't have the best ratings and has a mediocre reputation (note: this is not Dr. Grewal's fault as he is independent of the hospital). I asked Dr. Grewal candidly, "how do I know my dad is getting the best care available to us?" Dr. Grewal's response was all I needed. He took the time to reassure me of his extensive UCLA training; his repeated success as a surgeon in various hospitals; his leadership in restructuring our hospital's cardiothoracic systems and equipment; and his genuine desire to treat my dad. He recognized that, although my father was not at a 5-star hospital, the quality of care my dad would be receiving from he and his team would be just as good as you would find in the 5-star hospitals. After that conversation, I was at ease. Needless to say, the CABG was a success and my father is almost fully recovered eight weeks later. In the weeks following surgery, Dr. Grewal's post-op care has been very good with regular follow-ups and on call treatment. His staff is always a pleasure -and occasionally entertaining (as reflected in the previous post)- to talk to; they go out of their way to serve the patient, communicate to the doctor, and comfort the family. Whichever hospital you find yourself in, I'm sure that you'll find yourself in sure hands, with a first-rate team, a confident surgeon, and an attentive staff if Dr. Grewal is your surgeon. Reader - Best of wishes to you and your family, and God bless.
