Beautiful Lifetime Fitness at the Rim.Their front desk staff Danny was unusually friendly and helpful.A huge contrast to the City Centre location was a member for 10 years . I only went here due to our hotel gave day passes when travel but if I lived in this area would certainly consider joining again. I only used their outdoor pool area to stretch and found it to be very clean and well kept. The life guards inside smiled as you exited to the adult only area outside . We have now cancelled our membership here - this is Lifetime Fitness (the name on this listing shifts sometimes.) The cost is not worth what you're getting quality wise in terms of classes. We only went for the classes anyways bc the gym floor was always so crowded for my husband in terms of weight lifting, he still held on to his golds membership to go work out there in parallel when we were members. They offered us $20 a month off to return and we probably will not take them up on that. This might be a good option for some but for us it's too far of a drive for not enough benefit. Classes are too large, too crowded overall, they have some temperature control issues in the barre studio (sometimes I froze my butt off when it's less than 70 degrees outside) also in terms of cleanliness I asked how often they cleaned the Pilates balls in the studio and they said they didn't! So if you're taking a class in the studio make sure to also wipe down the Pilates ball (I always did, and my weights) While there were standout instructors and staff that we absolutely loved, it doesn't outweigh the issues -- Roxanne is a fantastic barre instructor, and we loved Shelley, Toni and Mingxia. We also loved Michael R. But they cancelled the class we used to take with him that we loved so much. We also really loved Danny who was frequently at the front desk. It's a nice gym for people who don't have little children that need to go to the Kid's Academy. But if you are a family of grade school children, SAVE YOUR MONEY! I have been a member for many years and after many complaints to management who "seem"like they care but they keep the same people who poorly manage the Kids' Academy. It's awful to go to the gym after a long day and to have to leave due to their policies or how much my kids hate going there. At which point you know they really don't care about families like ours. Perhaps, families with small children don't really make up the majority of their club membership income so we just get treated like our complaints don't make a difference in their bottom line. I've been a member here since the end of 2010. Since Covid, we've seen the cost of shakes in the cafe nearly DOUBLE in cost. We've seen the food and entire menu go up nearly the same amount. However, today I noticed that they are now charging a SURCHARGE for using a CREDIT CARD to make a transaction in the cafe. On top of the increased menu amounts, you obviously have tax but now have a surcharge to use your credit cards. Making a comment about it, I was told "well that's not us, that's the credit card company". The cost to use a credit card has always been absorbed by the cost/fee of using a terminal as a business. Now they are passing this along to the members. I let the employee know this and was refuted with "well, it's the economy. It's terrible. We just have a terrible economy..." Vehicle Broken Into - No Security Measures in Place I've been a LifeTime Fitness member for over 10 years, but what happened today has me seriously questioning my membership. My truck was broken into this morning while parked at the San Antonio location. Thankfully, nothing was stolen, but the violation alone is unacceptable -- especially given that I know of multiple recent break-ins here, including one member whose car was hit two days in a row last week. This is clearly a recurring issue, yet there are zero visible security measures in place. No patrols, no cameras, no presence. Members are paying $270/month and the rates continue to rise, but basic safety is being ignored. It's unacceptable for a premium facility like this to show such disregard for member security. LifeTime -- this needs to be addressed immediately. Enough is enough. read more

This is a rating for Life Time at the Rim. My grandson was in town. I only see him once a year, so I wanted him to have a great time with "Nona". I booked a birthday party package. Jay helped immensely. Honestly, the whole team went above and beyond for this special day. Even providing Birthday cake and a signed letter from the pool staff! How Fun. We had a dedicated lifeguard for our guests. He was attentive and played water games with the kids. The whole staff was warm, inviting and fun!!!!!!. I wish I could give 10 stars. I have been a member for 8 Months. Here are the Pros: 1) Gym is super clean. I see employees cleaning the equipment and structure almost daily. Very nice. 2) Employees are well trained and genuinely nice. 3) Variety of classes for all fitness levels 4) Additional amenities like Rock Climbing wall, Pickleball and Basketball courts, cafeteria and hair salon make this place a one-stop place for self. Now the ugly. 1) People are allowed to place towels, phones, or other personal items on multiple workout stations. I go to the gym at 4:30am, Monday through Friday and there are four people who take up 10 to 12 workout stations by doing what I described. 2) You have to decide between personal safety or time to work out at Life Time Fitness. If you decide to move a towel from a workout station to workout you WILL have some roided up dude or an intitled woman threatening you for working out on at a station they will be using soon. I have gotten to the point that I carry mace just in case. 3) Management is not responsive to any concerns whatsoever. I'm not sure what it takes to get their attention. 4) Due to my job I work out at the Austin South location and the Rim location. When you use the Life Time Fitness app to get directions to the Austin South location you will be directed to the Austin Bat Hospital. That is correct, the Austin Bat Hospital. I have told no less than 10 people, including this morning (August 2,2024) at 4:45am at the Rim location and nothing has been done. The Austin Bat Hospital is in a dark neighborhood when arriving at 4:45am. If some young lady or older person is to follow the directions provided by the Life Time app they will be lost. This was reported months ago to Austin South and the Rim and NOTHING has happened. 5) Entering and Exiting the Rim location is terrible. There is only ONE WAY in or out. Additional entry/exit gates have been closed for some reason. 6) Gym is almost unbearable after 7:00am. Too many people. Almost impossible to work out in a timely manner. FORGET SHOWING UP AROUND 5:00-7:00pm unless you want to wait a long time to work out. In closing, I would only recommend Life Time if you have time to wait and don't mind carrying mace to ward off the Roided up and entitled people read more

I have been coming here for almost 2 years now. My kids really love the kids club and as a bonus they offer parents night out once a month with our membership. My oldest also does summer camp here. With all their classes to choose from I go to Spin every Mon/ Wed with Kendall. I love her personality and how she pushes us to keep going! The front desk staff are always there to greet you with a smile. If you need any assistance they are there to help. They have a spa on site. I haven't tried it yet but I met their esthetician Jameson. She is such a sweetheart. Ian is the guy that signed us up and is still there! We weren't just a sale for him. The guy had me fill out a waiver and told me I could walk around and come back to him at the desk if I had any questions. He seemed to lack any effort at all. Anyways, I just walked out because if they greet and new person in that was then I definitely don't want to have to deal with them every time I workout. This gym is definitely more upscale than other local gyms and has a wide variety of workout options throughout the day and evening. I've taken the classes and use their cardio machines and free weights. It's not easy to keep me interested, but they do a good job at it. I've only been a member for a few months and I've met some great people here who I've enjoyed working out with. I've also enjoyed coming here alone and doing my own thing without interruptions. The sauna and whirlpool are wonderful and the heated pool is a nice benefit during the cooler weather. Great facility, great equipment. Great staff. However, this gym is grossly overcrowded. It doesn't matter whether you come at 5am or 10pm its always packed, you will never be able to complete your workout in peace. Its almost as if everyone is stepping over each other....you WONT be able to use the dumbbells or benches or anything but the treadmills for that matter unless you sit and wait for the person in-front of you to finish... then on top of that they have classes running all throughout the day that take up all of the squat racks!. Other gyms i can get in a great workout in 45min, here at lifetime it takes me 2hrs to do the same workout....its a cool gym but for almost $200 per month i actually want to get a workout in, and i don't want to be bumping shoulders with people because the gym is so crowded. I've been a member at Lifetime for almost 12 years. Before that, I was a member at Bally's and at a few other very good gyms around San Antonio. After reading a few dozen one star reviews I felt I had to chime in. The complaints about social distancing and mask wearing can be said about our culture as a whole and can't be held against the management of this gym. This is Texas after all; "mandates" don't fly here. They have an excellent staff that deep cleans the gym every night. You might not know that it used to operate 24hours and now they close for several hours nightly for deep cleaning. I dare any of the one star reviewers to find a cleaner gym anywhere. The staff is so friendly and engaging I've become great friends with several of them. In fact, they're like family! I encouraged my son to get a job there since he's a climbing enthusiast and has been working there since high school. When he comes home from college he signs up for shifts to stay in touch with his colleague and be a part of the team. It's not for the money that he does it, it's for the chance to stay engaged in the things that lifetime stands for. This place is great! On one occasion about 5 years ago someone took my running shoes that I left under a bench in the locker room and I know there have been some thefts over the years. Sadly, there are thieving people everywhere, at your job, at the grocery store, hell even at church. Those are things that can happen anywhere and I'm certain they happen less often at Lifetime. I swim, run, lift, do yoga, and occasionally take a class. I've done personal training with some of the best trainers around, people who are passionate about what they do. I eat at the cafe, I've gotten my haircut at the salon. I've never had a spa treatment but my ex wife has and she didn't complain (and trust me she complains about everything). My kids have been to the day care and summer camps. They learned to swim in their pools and now workout regularly on their own. We are gym people and we could not imagine our lives without a place like Lifetime. This is the gym for us. I'm fact, don't come here. Go somewhere else. I signed up during covid and while they had protocols and the mask order many people didn't abide by it. Once the mandate was lifted state wide they took all protocols down. The gym started to get really crowded and dirty. I put my membership on hold to adjust to the "growing pains" of going back to "normal." When I came back a couple months ago, I noticed it was the same. People do not wipe down their sweaty machines and will take multiple machines over at once. I was initially hooked once I took a tour and saw all the great things they have but if you're looking for classes early morning you're out of luck. Finding a locker is nearly impossible if you go anytime in the afternoon. People (female locker room) take their things in the locker and take the key home. I've been there when they open at 4am and the majority of lockers are taken. Its super frustrating. read more

I had to take a break from the gym for medical reasons. I was ready to get back into it and called. The price for my child and I went from $119 to $228!! The manager could not give me a single reason why. All the the upgrades she listed already were there 1 year ago. So why such a big jump? I don't see the value in that. Pickleball - playing at this gym has to be the worst environment you can experience the game. Not to mention the many separate issues here. Price increases not a problem for me as they added Pickleball which I enjoy, though not here, definitely not here. My close proximity for me made every month of membership paid here hanging on by a thread, no longer. Previously I absolutely loved this gym as a member in between travel since 08, the shift in the past two years is a shame. I'm only going into the Pickleball side of the equation or this would be way too long. Lifetime's Pickleball staff supposedly working and facilitating the courts just prefer to play them instead. Courts normally packed, members waiting in line behind the staff to finish up with their friends. When they decide to get off the courts they then find their pleasure power tripping and favor their friends or whoever they like to allow play instead of you... give them any slight attitude for the obvious "wtf is going on here" and they'll whisper to their buddies and make damn sure you don't come back to their courts. Since 08, never filed a complaint. Not the complaining type. I had to call this one in. Delivered message to the main general manager, no changes made. It's so obvious how bad it is the GM couldn't not be aware just by walking in there once. Not to mention the pile of complaints sent in like mine. I have met some great people who enjoy the game, most of them left to play somewhere else and I'm following suit. At least the courts are in good shape? I had to think of something positive... The general level of extremely rude and immature members playing here who own the courts with the staff is honestly shocking. Members paddles set in the lineup to wait are commonly skipped by others right in front of their face with no shame. You can imagine the tension this creates, I personally wouldn't allow this to happen to me... we'll fight if needed I mean this is Lifetime Fitness Pickleball, par for the course. As popularity of the sport continues, count on Lifetime to never miss an opportunity to make an extra buck. You are able to reserve and pay hourly for a private court paying additional on top of your membership, usually it was only one court being booked out and private for those who paid. Now sometimes all 3 courts are reserved at the same time, booked out and paid for on an hourly basis... none available for you unless you paid to have it booked. To emphasize the abysmal nature here I'll add this- There are a few benches by the courts, most people sit down on the side of the court as the benches are usually full. No issues here... except when the bosses of the courts sitting on the bench get up to play and put their phone, water, backpack and whatever else they can on the bench to reserve their bench spot once they decide they're done playing. If you crave a one off adventure I do recommend a guest pass, come to the courts, maybe 6:00 if you are really adventurous, take a seat somewhere and behold your eyes. I've been a member here for several years now. Everyone on the staff is friendly and want to sincerely help you through your workout journey. Can't say enough for the crew that comes through the locker room picking up towels from the inconsiderate people who leave their garbage and used towels on the floors and benches. The staff always try to keep this place nice looking. The cafe has very healthy options to eat and I haven't had a bad tasting meal here yet. read more

Their overhead announcements that seem to come every hour are extraordinarily loud and annoying and everyone complains and hates the loud announcements. I truly don't understand the negative reviews of this facility. I recently re-joined and have been completely satisfied. It's a large, clean facility with everything you could possibly want. I enjoy swimming laps and have never been unable to find an open lane. I saw they have pickleball courts and hope to try those too. Terrible Not worth the monthly dues. Not kept up Dirty No available lockers because "guest loose the keys". Then re-key them or go key-less. The manager on duty was " like what can I do about it" I said get keys made or remove key locks or go into lockers at 2am because people are using the locker permanently and her response was " we don't have the staff to do that all the time " Broken equipment not addressed See the picture ...it's been broken for a week not fixed and no warning sign. I reported it again and they called someone but an hour later still no warning sign. Bathrooms are not cleaned enough.!!!! My advice is look at LA Fitness or 24 Hour Fitness. The emphasis is on getting new customers to sign contracts and not keeping existing. read more
