Total scam. Never got a bill for the ride to the emergency room. Months later after my supplemental insurance repaid me for the stay in the hospital, I start getting collection calls from a collection agency in FL. They want $3000 for the 15 minute ride to the hospital. read more

During a recent vacation in Mexico, I injured my foot and was told I needed medical transport. The resort arranged what they called a "life support ambulance." What showed up was an unmarked van--no medical staff, no equipment, nothing resembling an emergency vehicle. Just a driver. I told them clearly I didn't want to proceed if it was going to cost a lot and would arrange my own transport. They completely ignored my concerns and rushed me into the van anyway. The 10-minute ride ended up costing me over $2,000--for what was essentially just a taxi ride. I tried to dispute the charge with my insurance, but they couldn't track down the company. Months later, I received a lawsuit from a law firm in another state, demanding payment for this "ambulance ride." After doing some research and reading other reviews, I found that many people have had similar experiences. In my opinion, this company seems to operate on a questionable business model, targeting vulnerable tourists who are in pain or disoriented. I've consulted with a lawyer, who informed me that in order to garnish wages or take further legal action, they would need legal representation in my state--so they can't just go after me without following proper procedures. My advice to anyone in a similar situation: Ask a lot of questions upfront. Get everything in writing. Don't assume just because someone at a resort says it's "medical transport" that it's a legitimate service. Trust me, you don't want to learn this the hard way like I did. read more

Biggest SCAMERS of all! I need an ambulance ride from my Hotel at Playa del Carmen to the Hospiten Riviera Maya. The hotel called this "ambulance" company and just before checking out from the hotel, a worker from Life Support ambulance approached and asked me for my driver's license and my insurance. I told him that I had an US only medical insurance and it won't work in Mexico. He told me that I could not leave unless I gave him all my information. Is this even legal? It seems that the hotel was in compliance with them. How does he knew that it was me and the day I was leaving? 13 mi on an old van cost to my insurance $3474.00 Please beware your relatives and friends from this scammers. read more

My insurance said it would cover the ambulance ride. Then they stacked on fraudulent services rendered. Then sent me a list of their clients, dob, dos, insurance numbers, first and last names read more

March 15, 2024 (Date of Service) The same thing happened to me that has happened to many others who have traveled to Playa del Carmen / Tulum and used this transportation services for required / basic support for medical needs, regardless of whether the service is used for routine or emergency needs. For me, the cost of initial "Life Support" transportation was reasonable. However, I received follow-on communication and billing from what appears to be an unrelated organization in New Jersey that added a significant and unreasonable additional charge after the fact, followed by threats of debt collection and legal action. I am in the process of settling my account directly with the original creditor. read more

One of the biggest scams in Mexico for tourist needing medical transportation. While vacationing in Playa del Carmen in 2017, my wife blood pressure was a little high and the resort doctor insisted she be taken to the hospital in Cancun. So after a 20 minute ride to the hospital, I exchanged my medical Insurance information to the Ambulance driver then went on my way to my wife location. A few months later I received a $3,000 ambulance bill from Life Support AMB-Mexico-MEDX requesting payment in full because my insurance company didn't believe my wife's condition required a life support ambulance. Now Im being sued by this company in Superior Court and I will Fight this till the end. In Mexico this service is only a few hundred dollars and sometimes free. They see american people and they brake their pockets. This company should be ashamed of theirselves...............Stay away from ever taking an ambulance ride from these people... SCAMMERS!!!!!!!!!! read more

The same thing happened to us that is happening to many people in the comments. We paid $900 (US$) up front for a few mile ambulance ride, and they made us pay $5,000 (US$) upfront for the doctors as well before they would see us. Months later they sent us a letter in the mail from Morganville NewJersey saying we owe another $3,000 (US$) for the ride and mileage. It says they will send us to collections if we don't pay. Typically ambulances in Mexico don't charge that much unless you need airlifted. It's definitely a SCAM!!! I don't know if it will actually hurt our credit but we will be talking to insurance and lawyers I guess. read more

My family and I were staying at the Maya Colonial River Maya August 2022 resort when my daughter got food poisoning from the food in our resort. We took her to the Resort onsite doctor, who only checked her vitals and charged USD 200.00. She stated our daughter had to be looked at by another doctor, called a shuttle to take another patient and us to the clinic. We insisted on taking a taxi, but she said our insurance would cover the shuttle, and the clinic staff would not know they sent us if we took a cab. When we arrived at the clinic, they wanted us to pay USD 5,000 upfront without my daughter being looked at by the doctor. We decided to leave the clinic in a taxi and took my daughter to a pharmacist that provided consultation and medication for less than USD 150.00. We received a bill from Life Support Ambulances three months later for USD 1,850. The ride to the clinic was 15 minutes, and we shared the shuttle with another gentleman. This is all a scam, and it is not fair that the Resorts/Hotels have a part in this. This was not an ambulance; it was a shuttle, and no medical equipment was inside. At this point, they can send me to collections. read more

My sister and I were given a van ride from the resort where I was staying and had just broken my foot to the hospital. It was just a van. No ambulance. Could have been an Uber. I was billed for almost a thousand dollars. This is fraud. Billing insurance companies for this. Absolutely fraud. read more

Advised by hotel doctor to take an "ambulance" to the hospital in Playa Del Carmen as was experiencing bacterial gastroenteritis with a high fever. Told the "ambulance" would cost approximately $250. A very basic minivan arrived with no bed or life saving equipment on board, no assistance was given by the driver or his colleague. After a 30min journey of approximately 18 miles my husband and I were dropped off at the hospital. Although not as ill as myself, my husband was also suffering with the same illness and was hounded by the driver for documentation, including passport info, driving licenses, addresses, date of birth etc. We were given no invoice or receipt of service. 12 days after returning home we received a bill from life support ambulance for $1950.00 which is absolutely absurd. Unless you really need a proper ambulance with life saving equipment on board do NOT take life support ambulances, which is basically a glorified mini van, very similar to the one you would have got from the airport to your hotel. read more

My 10 year old was sick while we were on vacation in Playa del Carmen. The resort doctor called Life Support Ambulance to transport him to the hospital about 25 miles away. They showed up in a passenger van, with no medical equipment or devices apparent. When asked about the cost, they told us not to worry, that they always billed the insurance company and we would not have to pay anything. My wife and son got in the second seat and they left the hotel. After a SLOW ride (no lights, no siren), they arrived at the clinic, shoved some papers at me (in Spanish) to sign, and left. They provided ZERO medical services, just a ride. When we got back to the US, Life Support Ambulance of Mexico sent us a bill from their New Jersey headquarters for $2,200.00. They told us it was our responsibility to file with insurance, and that they would take us to collections if we failed to pay promptly. SCAM. read more

I was at a resort in Cancun, El Cid, slipped on something slimy coming out of the pool. The resort completely ignores correspondence and takes no responsibility for it. I was holding on to the handrail and was taking it slow as I am 72 years old. They took me to the medical office at the resort, called Life Support Ambulance. These guys held me hostage until my friend came up with $300 US cash only then stopped a couple blocks from the hospital and tried to get more money from my other friend. I was in excruciating pain and ended up with a compound fracture of my femur. Now they have sent me to collection in NJ for $6438. This is a very deceptive company and should be ashamed of ripping off tourists, who add so much to the Mexican economy. I am on Social Security and have no way of paying them. The hospital has also sent me to collection for $339,584! This after my insurance paid the maximum for out of the country hospitals. I think tourists should boycott all travel to Mexico until they stop ripping off their main income (behind drugs of course) read more

This company now seems to be trying to scam random people by calling them about the ambulance service they used in Mexico. Well I've never used an ambulance in Mexico (thank God!) and I actually can't even remember the last time I was in Mexico period!!!! That, or someone gave them a fake phone number and it just ended up being mine. This company is definitely a complete SCAM!!! read more

Wish I could give a zero. Provided sub-par services (a cab would have been faster) and then failed to bill insurance company as promised. Then sent to collection agency and refused to let me speak to a supervisor. Likely fraud, I believe. Also violated HIPPA read more

My family was vacationing in Cancun Mexico in July, my daughter did not feel well one day, so we were seeing the hotel doctor 1st. The hotel Dr. said she should go to a local hospital for a lab test. So the Dr. had the (Life Support) ambulance (waiting out at the hotel) to take us to a local hospital. It was a 36 kilometer ride. ONLY a ride, just like a supershuttle van; there was NO treatment at all! And ONLY ONE WAY, we took a cab back to the hotel afterward (the cab back was only about $40). I paid the hotel clinic, I paid the hospital, I thought I was done. A couple weeks ago, I received a call from a collecting agency, the guy on the phone said I owe Life Support Ambulance $1087.85, he said my insurance denied the claim and demanded that I must pay the bill! I was in shocked, I told the man on the phone that this amount is unreasonable. I said the hotel dr and the hospital combined was about $400, and how could a plain van ride (no treatment whatsoever) be a $1088???? I need help to get this resolved! This is a total rip off! WATCH OUT & BE CAREFUL! read more

I was billed $2,500.00 by "Life Support Ambulance" for the ambulance from my hotel in Cancun to the E.R. and an additional $166.50 for "mileage" at $16.50 per mile for a total bill of $2,666.50. The ride was 9 miles and took about 15 minutes. My wife had fallen and had broken arms. She required no life saving measures or anything out of the ordinary during the ride. Upon seeing how many people stated that the "standard fee" is $650, I was a little confused. I wondered if they charged me more because it was one of the nicer hotels? I also wondered if the New Jersey company googled my address and up-charged me because it is a nice house (I am not saying that they did this... I just don't understand why I was billed so much more than almost everyone else who has commented on this company.) The company that billed me is based in New Jersey (Life Support Ambulance, Morganville, NJ) and they were insistent that I pay and that this was a standard rate. Of course, I also wondered how much they (in New Jersey) get versus how much the ambulance in Mexico actually gets....hmm. Long story short, I have good insurance and they paid it in full... but I was definitely on the hook if they didn't and continue to question where I was treated fairly and ethically given all the complaints I have read about this company. LESSON LEARNED. You may be in distress, injured, or your mind may be on an injured loved-one, but if you don't ask about the $$ and get something in writing (or recorded) you open yourself up to being charged almost ANY amount and there will be little you can do about it unless you don't mind your credit being hammered. read more

In January I was vacationing in Playa del Carmen and stayed at Hotel Riu Playacar. I got an ear infection and went to see a local doctor at the neighboring hotel Riu Yucatan. The doctor decided that I should see the other doctor in the city hospital and suggested that the waiting ambulance could drop me there. Since my condition did not require the ambulance, I wanted to take a taxi or walk to the hospital as the distance was just 3 kilometers. The doctor insisted me to use the ambulance since I had an insurance covering the expense. I finally agreed to use the ambulance, although against my judgement and common sense. When we got to the hospital, we took care of the billing formalities and I got an payment guarantee from the insurance company, which was to be invoiced directly. I did not pay anything at the time. We agreed with the ambulance driver that he will wait for me and take me back to the hotel. After the treatment, which lasted about 30 minutes, I looked for the ambulance driver but could not find him. I also tried to call him, but he did not answer. I walked back to the hotel and thought that this was just one of those lousy deals where the service provider takes the money and runs away. Unfortunately this was not end of the story. Last summer SOS International acting on behalf of the insurance company Codan contacted me and requested me to reimburse the ambulance expense because the use of the ambulance was not necessary and because the expense was unreasonable. I really felt that they had a fair point and reimbursed the payment. I contacted Life Support Ambulance and requested reimbursement from them. The customer service answered that they could not reimburse me since I had not paid them on the spot. What on earth that got to do it? So stay away from this service: they will provide you a lousy service with a ridiculous fee, which may not even be covered by your insurance. The whole operations is based on a SCAM! read more

Life Support Ambulances service is a TOTAL RIP OFF. My daughter was not feeling well while we were in Cancun vacationing, so the hotel dr. referred her to a local hospital which was about 15+ miles away. I was billed $1088 USD ! I tried to fight it off, they said I need to pay a Basic medical service which was $650 and $27.80/mile. I told the man on the phone that it was just a ride to the hospital and my daughter DID NOT receive any medical treatment on the van; and it was ONLY a ONE WAY RIDE. We took a cab back to the hotel from the hospital, and I paid only $40 USD. How in the world they could charge this much!!!! Watch up tourists, this so called Ambulance service is out to prey tourists. Ask the price before you get a ride from them. Use a taxi instead. read more

I had a similar experience as the other reviewers. I was vacationing in Mexico in February 2020 in Puerto Vallarta. I was sick and I wanted to extend my stay and change my flights (I didn't want to be quarantined). So I went to the hotel Doctor who insisted that I couldn't possibly have COVID-19 but told me that I needed to go to the hospital to get paperwork for the airlines. Then she ushered me into a little van to take me to the hospital which was 14 miles away. In retrospect, I feel like the whole thing was a scam and that the hotel doctor, the cab driver and the hospital are taking advantage of tourists. I should have insisted on not going. The hospital kept me overnight even though they insisted that I didnt have either kind of influenza and that I could not have had COVID-19. They finally agreed to let me go when I became very insistent. I, like many others have marginal insurance so the whole thing was an enormous expense. Now I have been referred to a US Collection Agency for a balance due of more than $1,000.00 (for a 15 mile ride) to Life Support Ambulances in Mexico. read more
