The price is always right. The atmosphere is fantastic, and the people who work there and go there are lovely folks. Although the shows are earlier than most venues, it's nice to have some kind of consistency to rely upon. Keep supporting this place because it does a lot of good things for Berlin music.

From the outside, the building is far from impressive; I expected something a little more well-manicured. Inside it looks fine, but it's a bit cavernous. The sound isn't terrible, but for a venue dedicated to live music (most of it electronic), I would assume it would be a little better. There are columns on the stage which can be elegant or tacky, depending on your take. The walls are covered in projections, which is actually kind of cool. There's plenty of seating and room to dance, which is nice. The bar is large but doesn't impose upon the room in any way. On stage, there's an area in the back and to the side where people can sit on couches. I'm assuming it's for the "VIP" folks, but it strikes me more as hip-hop club douche-y than classy - maybe that's because the people have to walk across and in front of the artist to get off the stage. Oh well. All in all, Gretchen is not so bad. It's a little empty feeling, but there is some potential there for sure, and it won't stop me from going to see acts there from time to time.
