Mirta Morigi is a famous award winning contemporary ceramics artist. Morigi opened her own studio in 1973. The studio is situated in the yard of the historical Palazzo Barbavara, in the heart of Faenza.
My Italian friend Ricca likes Morigi's works and took me to Morigi's studio when I was in Faenza. I felt like a kid in a sweet shop! I was in a state of awe... Everything was awesome!
Morigi applies the 'untraditional' concept in her works. She has the ability to combine diverse elements with the styles of her apprentices. Her creations are not inspired by popular fashion culture but rather by messages that profoundly come from the heart. Oh, so romantic!
She also makes bizarre creatures like chameleons, frogs, lizards and salamanders. A reminder of creatures that live in the mud (clay). These creatures are part of vessels, camouflaged as handles or sprouts.
A mug (€18) with a painted heart caught my eyes. The mug had words which read "ascolta il cuore", meaning "listen to your heart". A gentle reminder from The Universe. Thank you, Universe.
I also bought a gold frog wearing a crown (€50). The frog is gold plated and had been fired (baked) twice. I actually kissed all the gold frogs in the studio. Yes, I kissed Frogs! How many Frogs does a girl have to kiss before finding her Prince???
I took pottery lessons before and really enjoyed working with clay. My pottery lessons taught me that in life, things collapse, break and often do not turn out the way we want them to. We should always enjoy the beauty of the process. Life is a journey not a destination.
