Okay, in this review, I'm going deep. 'So deeeep......put your ass to sleep!'…read more Life revolves around odds and probabilities. I find these things fascinating. Insurance companies use it to calculate your premium and it even applies to simple things in your life, such as getting to work faster because you took another route or the denial of meeting someone new, because your breath was kicking like a kung-fu master eating all those onions for lunch! Anyways, I hope the wiseguys in Vegas don't come after me for revealing a little information on how the world works in the lucrative business of sports wagering. If you all don't hear from me for a long period of time, or see my ass on your milk carton - well, you know what happened. Please send your condolences and throw a UYE party for me. But let's not go off on a tangent here, and let me explain why L.V.S.C (Las Vegas Sports Consultants) is such an awesome company. I studied Criminal Law in college and wrote several papers on gambling with a speciality towards sports wagering. Almost EVERY single odds line that is promulgated on any sports game, at any time, you can pretty much bet that L.V.S.C firm conjured up that number! L.V.S.C is a clandestine firm that actually takes the lead and sets/opens the point spreads in various sports. What is a 'point spread,' you ask? It is the 'great equalizer.' For example, let's just say you're a Lakers fan and want to bet on them every time. Well since they are kicking mad ass this season, it would be too easy to bet on them to win versus a scrub team, such as the Clippers. Well, that is where the point spread comes into play. Now, with the 'great equalizer' it evens out the playing field. So if the Lakers are favored by, say, -14 points, that means they now have to beat the scrub Clippers by 14 points in order for you to win your bet. A big misconception regarding oddsmakers that set the odds is that it is done by a computer. Wrong. It is done with by a staff of real human beings that actually have a keen sense of public perception. Big money casino sportsbooks around the world hire the L.V.S.C. firm services to set the odds for them so they can post it up ASAP. Remember: the casino charges a 10 percent commission on every bet that you wager. So they will ONLY make money if there is an even amount of money in action on betting on both teams or players (boxing, tennis, golf, etc.) ie: 5,000 people bet on Lakers @ $100 each with $10 commission (or in gambling parlance: juice or vig) and 5,000 people bet on Clippers @ $100 each with $10 commission. So it doesn't matter what side wins, the casino will pay the winners and take the money from the losers and make their $5,000 commission. And that's only on one game! There are thousands of bets that the casinos take each day from ALL over the world, from Europe to Asia, to the Caribbeans. Most of time, the casinos get 'even action' on both betting sides and lock in their profit. Sometimes, the oddsmakers may be a little off and the casinos lose. The trick is find that fine line that splits the public perception on the outcome. I can go on and on about how genius L.V.S.C is, but I'll spare you the boredom. True examples of odds that were perceived as incorrect by the public perception. One recent example was the fight that occurred this past December between Oscar De La Hoya vs. Manny 'PacMan' Pacquiao. L.V.S.C. set odds with Oscar De La Hoya being a 2-1 favorite over PacMan. Why? because they believed, that the public would believe that De La Hoya was too strong and too big at that weight class of 147lbs and the fact that Manny has never fought someone that big before in his career. NOT because they actually thought Oscar was better than PacMan. So, De La Hoya had a couple of sparring and training sessions that were viewed by the media and he obviously looked good in them. The betting public perception was now skewed. Hook, line, and sinker! Expert analysis on ESPN and radio predicted that 'oscar will destroy pacman.' So what happens during the night of the fight?? PacMan actually IS the craftier, stronger, and more aggressive fighter and absolutely humiliates De La Hoya! Vegas Wins! One more example: President Obama, after he beat Hillary in the Democratic showoff, was only a 3-1 favorite up against John McCain. Guess what happened?! McCain chooses 'pitbull w/ lipstick' Sarah Palin as his running mate and things go south as she exposes her incompetence. By the time of election day, Barrack Obama shot all the way up to a 10-1 favorite to win the election. There was nothing exciting about it! I posted it up on the Yelp talk the day before that he was going to absolutely win, but most of You were in disbelief. Anyhow, when I become rich someday and open up my own casino and sportsbook, I am most definitely going to be hiring - L.V.S.C. to set the odds!
