Totally "corporate" gym. Classes, steam room/sauna (separate for men and women), dumbbells…read more(hidden in a corner, sort of), machines I'll start with the cons: - Dumbbells only go up to 30kgs - They have heavier barbells, but they are locked in a room and you have to pay a "personal trainer" to access them - The dumbbells are kept in a very small area (with mirrors on the wall that you might bump with the weights) so if more than 2 people want to use these weights it's crowded - They play THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN over the speakers. You will hear THE SAME SONGS every time you are there, no matter what time you go. I suspect the company has cut a deal with a music business to play the same songs ("pay for play") continuously. I cant' handle it for an hour, I don't know how the guys that work their deal with it - Instead of motivating videos on the televisions.. you'll see advertisements... CMG has sold that space to advertisers... (so why not the music space, too?). You'll see the same ads over and over again, every time you go to the gym - They allow iPhones to be used. For some this is a plus. For me it ain't. Pro: - It's clean - Doesn't totally suck - If all you want is a stair machine, treadmill or light weight machine, you'll be happy edit: I've joined "Health City" on blvd s. germain. Costs a little less, equipped more to my liking, and more people that are actually there to work out hard. No ads on TVs, ok music (sometimes none, which is fine). Better energy. Much happier there.

Just your normal commercial gym, the location was great but, damn, 50 dollars for a day pass(a…read morelittle more but whose counting) had everything you needed though. 3.5 stars but don't know if that's an option.

So this is my Paris gym, and although it is beautiful and clean, it costs an arm and a leg to go…read morehere, which is kinda ridiculous. First things first, it's nicely located at cour saint émilion, in the heart of the bercy village. It is part of the "waou" chain of cmg sports clubs, which means that it costs 120€ a month! (Gulp!) it gives you access to the 4 waou gyms, and the 17 basic cmg gyms (called "cmg one"). For that price, call me crazy, but I'm kind of expecting everything to be made of gold. Haha. (Always watch out promotions before signing up so u can snag a free month or 2 or a reduction in price to make it more affordable! Why pay full price?!?) That being said, due to the higher price (a good 30-40€ more per month than the basic cmg gyms), it is obviously way less crowded. That is a huge advantage. Second, the material here is much newer and in better condition than the other gyms. It's clean!!!! And people are friendly here. The staff and coaches say bonjour to you, unlike at some other cmg gyms. There are only 2 group class rooms, and this gym is smaller than other cmg gyms, so there aren't as many group classes that are offered. They also don't have a swimming pool at this location. That being said, it's clean, you get shower gel in the showers (yup- that's what our 120€ is going towards - luxury right there lol), there's a lot of machines, you have great window views of bercy village), there's hot water in the showers (not always the case in the basic cmg gyms), there's a sauna and a hammam, friendly and very skilled coaches, top of the line material, it's not jam-packed or overly crowded. and sometimes exclusive group classes are offered here first. The only negative point is the crazy expensive price! Boo. But I guess that's what makes it a "waou" gym.

If Barry's Bootcamp and Tonehouse in NY had a baby, Midtown Studio would be it. Midtown Studio…read moreoffers 50 minute bootcamp style classes that incorporate a combination of interval running, strength training and functional exercises. It's similar to Barry's except the sets between exercises are shorter and you switch from the bench, floor and treadmill more frequently. I like that there's an open space/turf where you can do more exercises that utilizes open space that's separate from the bench. It definitely feels like an all over athletic conditioning class in that regard. The woodway curved treadmills are really cool in that it's entirely dynamic and driven by your resistance although there is a manual resistance knob to add on more weight. Once you get going on it, it can go really fast and feel intimidating but after the first class you get the hang of it! There's also these straps with handles attached to the treadmill that we didn't get to use but I assume they're used in more cable based exercises. The bench is stacked with different equipment, like dumbbells and kettlebells as well as battleropes and sandbags. Class size is about half of Barry's at full capacity (20-25?) The first time I took an "extreme abs" class with an instructor whose name I didn't catch. It was definitely one of those classes that went from 0 to 100 reaaal quick so if you're not as used to working out at that intensity I'd disclose it with the instructor. The second class was with Manu, the owner, and he was FANTASTIC!!! He was such an excellent coach and really tried to give attention to each individual (something you wouldn't see at Barry's). He gave clear instructions in both French and English and was extremely motivating. He's super friendly and runs a great studio! Classes aren't as frequent and tend to go more toward the later morning into the late evening. My friend and I purchased a 2/30 euro intro deal and it was well worth the money!! If you're interested in getting a sweat on in Paris or wanna make more room for crossaints, this is your place! There are showers and Rituals amenities to freshen up with after class.
