I was a little bit skeptical about doing hypnotherapy. I tried to keep an open mind. I'm a firm supporter of Western medicine, real medicine. When I scheduled the appointment I had intended to just do standard run-of-the-mill hypnotherapy. Deal with childhood trauma and the like. The week before my appointment I suffered ulnar nerve paralysis, leaving me essentially paralyzed from the right elbow down. I never would have spontaneously requested that while under hypnosis we address my arm in any way. I mean, how could that work? Lexi suggested it though. While under hypnosis, which was just like an extreme calm where the normal chatter of mind was quieted, she like me through some exercises to try to regain full function of my hand. She blindfold me for the activity. If you cannot see the paralyzed part of you, you cannot be sure if it is or is not moving. All you know is your brain is sending the signals for your fingers to move. Even under hypnosis, I remember having the fleeting thought that it was useless and dumb. Then at the end of the session she took off the blindfold, and asked me to move my fingers. I was moving them! I had regained about 70% of the flexion in my fingers, whiIe I still did not have any extension. I could even wave on my wrist a little bit. My medical brain cannot explain it. I thought this into the ground. It just doesn't make sense. But it really happened. A couple weeks after my visit I was completely healed and had full function of my hand again. read more
