I hired Elyse Margolin for a case that was scheduled for court. Two days before the hearing, she abruptly withdrew from the case, leaving me without representation at a critical time. After quitting, she charged me for additional services I don't believe were justified, especially given the sudden drop. This experience caused a lot of stress and financial strain. Elyse was my divorce attorney for many years, even post divorce settlement because of spousal support issues that continued to be problematic. The divorce process was complicated and contentious. Elyse was my third attorney and the only one who was willing to take this on and make sure that I would be protected. She understood my issues quickly and almost intuitively grasped the twists, turns and complicatons that were tripping others up. Elyse was determined not to let anything get overlooked and yet knew where to filter out unnecessary distractions. Her staff was fantastic and they worked as a tight unit, with good humor despite the stress. She was warm and kind, with good relationships with other attorneys, judges, accountants and court staff. She represented me with finesse, smartly quietly resolving issues, yet fiercely when necessary. She has an incredible memory for details and an ability to prioritize what is most important. Bait and switch" Then I was given a junior associate . I needed high asset representation to protect my business and its commercial property. I hired Elyse Margolin on June 2016, Fired her 1.5 year later, on mid November 2017. Today, April 25, 2018 I receive her 1st time invoice with a Chutzpah of charging more than the $10,000 retainer she is holding. Elyse assigned inexperienced Attorney on my case, CREATED paper trails of NOTHING. I was very unhappy with their excuses for "NON-action" work. Last one was that I refused to sign & submit a declaration with numbers she did not understand. I told her helper to cancel a scheduled court appearance, she lied that "she must appear, or I will be penalized by the court". My case lost nearly a year length of negotiation. I am not done calculating the damage this office caused me. Once my case is concluded in court & the numbers are final, I Will need to sue this office. read more

Ms. Margolin represented me and my sister on a TRO and it was amazing on how well she defended us. She got the case dismissed as soon as she finished cross examining the claimants' witnesses. Ms. Margolin was hired to represent me and my brother on a civil harassment restraining order case. She won the case. The request of a TRO was one among other actions by a future neighbor that is trying to stop construction of our retirement home. I was served in Lincoln, NE where I live and work, and given almost no time to respond or come to LA for the hearing. I contacted Ms. Margolin's office and they were back to me within 30 minutes. Ms. Margolin attended the first hearing for me and requested a continuation so that we could argue the case and so that I could arrange my schedule and fly to LA to participate. We communicated without any delays during four months until the hearing date. During this time she prepared the case, requested all documentation necessary, and continuously communicated with us. She was very realistic at requesting the necessary court time for the case given all the material and witnesses, which was not easy given that the plaintiff's counsel was pressing for the contrary. We met a number of times in her office to discuss and support her in preparing the case but these discussions pale relative to her preparation in court, her quickness and her ability to synthesize, structure and connect all information while on her feet (literally) in court. Her assertiveness in court is based on solid legal foundations as was evidenced by the times the judge sustained her objections. Her instincts and manners in court are also evident in the way she adjusted her cross examination tone to the different witnesses and in her exchanges with the judge and the opposite counsel. She is able to change strategies in the moment and in fact requested dismissal of our case at the end of the first day of hearing (she had requested 3 days) that is when the plaintiff presentation finished and before the defense presented our case. Even though she was prepared for 3 days of hearing, she saw an opportunity to finish this earlier and requested dismissal. The judge dismissed the cases with a reprimand to the plaintiff for misuse of public funds. Ms. Margolin is a superb lawyer and she does it all with professionalism and a high dose of humanity. read more

Hire this company at your own risk. I fired them after it became clear their way of doing business is to rack up your costs on unnecessary work without sending you monthly invoices. They do not want you to keep track of the spending or have any knowledge of what they are doing. While my ex was spending $5k per month for a lawyer who was almost the same hourly fee, this firm was charging me 4 times per month and I didn't know, because I never got a bill. They also refer you to companies (accountants, appraisers,etc) that have similar practices - high billing outside of industry norms for unnecessary work. When I kept paying fines by the judge for the actions of this lawyer, I had to fire them. When I was interviewing other lawyers to replace this shady firm, it was obvious their reputation of conning clients and then putting liens on houses or suing clients is well known as their MO. They will not send you invoices. They will do work that is unnecessary to increase your bill. Their work will not be good quality resulting in fines by the judge. Dealing with this firm was worse than my divorce. The people I trusted to have my back were actually stealing from me and stabbing me in the back. I'm now in litigation against them because I'm fighting some unethical charges and business practices. There is a common thread on these reviews. All her reviews on AVVO were terrible so she had them removed. The reviews here may not be from her clients. The first one is someone she hired for investigative work, not a client. I hired another law firm and we had to start from scratch. Nothing Elyse did could be used and only after independent eyes looked at what she did, including a retired judge, did I realize the extent of her betrayal. read more
