This part of Galway is in the Connemara National Park. A wild part of Ireland, almost untouched. Now it is extremely difficult to get planning permission here.
Inland it is hilly, with springs coming out of the hillsides - incredible to see sources of streams. Nearer the coast it can be fairly low and flat, and one drives at sea level. I wonder what it's like in winter, some of the roads must be impassible in the rain. But this is Ireland and it rains all year round, Soft rain.
This is somewhere else that that causes me to gasp at the beauty. You are surprised by fresh scenery after every bend in the road. Suddenly a lake, a waterfall or a crag in the hillside.
We stopped at a rather unIrish-like cafe / bar. They were very friendly and told us about life in Connemara. It seems a lot of peop;e have two or three jobs as life is so slow and the population small. In the hills sheep are prolific and again spinning and weaving are a main livelihood. And tourism.
We found the guesthouse we had booked, and went off to a lovely pub where every one seemed to know each other. We are a great Irish meal, with true Irish hospitality. We experienced this again in the morning at our hostess' breakfast table - the never ending glorious breakfast and cups of tea and conversation.
