I was so happy when the Alhambra store opened. Very convenient location for us. Came in looking for chemicals to maintain my above ground spa. Robert Abarta, the store manager, was super helpful, and guided me to the appropriate items. He educated me in the water testing feature on their app. The app makes it so easy to test your water at home, and provides access to the info to maintain the water safely. They will also test your water in-store if you need additional help. On subsequent visits, others on Roberts team have been just as helpful. They won't try to up-sell you things you don't need, and they're forthcoming about specials, etc. They make self pool care much easier. read more

I came here in the midst of a pool emergency and, let me tell you, Rob saved me! Our (ex) pool man had been doing the bare minimum, lying to us about wasting water, and not checking any chemicals. The pool was green within days of telling him he had to go . When we arrived at Leslie's, Rob was there to help us out. He was actually shocked to hear that we indeed had a pool man at all lol. He talked us through the steps of shocking the pool and how to get it sparkling. I was afraid at first, but he gave me all the directions, showed me the resources, and gave me his card if I had more questions. I rarely write reviews but I had such a bad experience that I felt compelled to take the time. I am being generous with the two stars only because Cesar (store manager) sounded genuinely concerned over the telephone and was able to get a technician out to my house the very next day to attempt to repair my pool pump. I did describe to Cesar what the pump was doing (or not doing) and the sound it was making. I did explain that I had a 2 stage pump. He said that I will likely need a new pump and the pump will cost me about $1,800 plus $250 for the install. When I told him that was way over what I was expecting and ask if we can first see if the pump could be repaired. Cesar agreed and said if his technician can't fix it, I won't have to pay for the visit. But before hanging up, he did ask if it would be okay if they send the $1,800 pump with the technician with the $1800 which I thought was a bit strange. I told him let's just see if his technician can fix the pump first before we decide to replace the whole thing. There was also the possibility that the problem was just the motor, which he estimated would cost about $600 + installation to replace. Still painful, but not as much. Well, when the technician, Jose, got there he took a look at it from about 8 feet away and right away said that he couldn't touch it because it was a single speed pump. I told him it was a two stage pump but he ignored me an was I insistent that he went through his whole spiel about how new State laws prohibit him from fixing, opening, or even touching single stage pumps. I then repeated myself but this time Jose decided to closely examine the pump to see if I was lying. I thought this was slightly rude but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He confirmed that it was a two stage pump and then proceeded to make the same spiel he claimed earlier but this time he stated that the State of California won't let them work on both single or dual stage pumps. Jose repeated several times that the State won't let them even change out the motors. A bit frustrating now since there was no reason for him to come out other than to sell me a new $2000+ pump. I told him that this is not what I was led to believe would happen but that I would need a written estimate to look at all my options. He went to his vehicle and came back after a few minutes. Jose now was telling me he spoke to his boss who suggested he try turning a bolt on the motor to see if it kick started the pump. I had absolutely no problem with this. What I did have a problem with was what happened to the "we are not allowed to even touch these pumps"? What he tried looked fairly simple and definitely temporary if it worked. But it didn't. He sensed that I was not going to jump at the first opportunity to purchase a brand new pump so now he was telling me he can order just the motor. He stated that the motor would cost about $600 and the install $250. At this point it was crystal clear that Jose was lying to me. I asked him what about the State Law he claimed earlier. He danced around the question and just pushed to sell me the motor. When I asked for the written estimate for the motor, he only gave me the estimate for the $2000+ pump. Whether the lie was the first part that he work in the pump or now he can, one thing was certain, Jose is not to be trusted. I would not ever be comfortable with recommending Leslie's Pool Service to anyone. Now here is the kicker. Immediately after Jose left, I started calling other pool stores and service companies. I ended up calling Glenridge Pool Supply in Glendale and I described the sound the pool pump was making to the person who answered the phone. Without any pause for doubt he said that it is the capacitor. I told him it sounds expensive and complicated which he responded as "well, the part is $20 and it is extremely easy to replace. Two screws to remove the cover and 2 wires." I asked if he was sure. He responded with "I am 90% sure that that is the problem." They close at 5 on Saturdays so I had an hour to get there. The gentlemen that was there was very polite. I wish I could remember his name but this was a week ago. He was absolutely correct in diagnosing the problem. I waited a week to to write this review because I wanted to make sure that I did fix my pool pump problem. Pump has been running like new for a week now. I am grateful to have fixed my pump with a $20 part as opposed to purchasing a new one for over $2,000. I just wish I didn't have such a bad experience with Leslie's because they are literally just down the street from me. read more

Leslie's has been consistently reliable since I started taking care of a pool 20 years ago. Their service has gotten even better in the past few years. I recently bought a new filtration system. A series of problems dragged on. Leslie's service department/technicians stuck with it and eventually solved the issue. I don't think they made any money on that deal so I appreciate it greatly. As for the Alhambra store, I drive out of my way to come here because the manager, Robert Abarta, will solve any problem. Love this place ! I ve always called Leslie's w questions and or problems they always come through with the solution. Now they are even closer to me so I can just pop over, ask questions , get my water tested, FOR FREE! get the products I need to make my pool perfect - and it's so much easier now :) no more stupid colored bottles and tubes and droppers .
