Best decision we made as this tour became one of the highlights of our trip. Molly, our host, was very friendly and informative. She took us to great tasting rooms with different wines and even offered awesome recommendations for foodie spots and other wineries to check out on our free day in Sonoma county. Luckily, we were the only people on this tour (went on a Wednesday) so we pretty much got a private tour at a group cost. The tour starts by meeting up in Healdsburg Plaza and takes about 3-4hrs from start to finish. It includes two non alcoholic spots so that you get a break and don't get completely wasted. I appreciated this since you're technically drinking about 4-5 glasses of 1-3oz pours at each tasting. The food paired with the wine were bite size pieces to help compliment the flavors, so don't expect full size meals when you do this tour. All stops were unique and was always different than the last. Molly took us to the following shops: -Downtown Bakery & Creamery -Stephen & Walker -Rockpile Vineyards -Russian River Tea Company -Spicy Vines We can't recommend this tour enough. I'm really glad we did it because we were able to try some wine that we never expected to have (spicy wine!!) but also got to see different parts of the the Healdsburg square area. If you're looking to kill some time with great food pairing and wine, definitely book this tour for your next day adventure. You won't regret it.

His knowledge not only of each restaurant and the story behind it but, of the wine and food itself made the experience almost surreal. We learned things about wine and food pairings that we thought to be myths in the past. Not only that, he made it so easy for us to take this knowledge home and try it with her own favorite wine and foods at home. Also, his personality is genuine and friendly, easy conversation and funny! We LOVED hanging out with him! My group and I had so much fun we were deeply saddened when we realized the tour was finally over. So whether you are heading into Healdsburg for a trip or live there and just want a day of amazing wine food and company I highly and when I say highly I truly mean HIGHLY recommend booking ma tour with wine and country walking tours

A beautiful time experiencing the variety that the Sea Ranch area has to offer. She kindly hosted my wife and I for a very personalized experience. Margaret is a fantastic guide. She is so knowledgable about everything we saw: forest vegetation, relevant local history dating back to the native americans and logging days, architecture, Sea Ranch culture, coastal geology, and so much more! What an amazing way to experience this area. You will view the area through a different lens. Margaret was so professional and friendly. You can tell she's doing what she loves. You and your group will have an amazing day no matter which tour you select. Margaret will work to make it right for you and be sure you're satisfied. She even helped us with other suggestions on what to do while we are visiting. If you are in the area this should be priority ONE on your list to do. I can't recommend Unbeaten Path and Margaret enough - you will NOT be disappointed!

When you take a tour with Unbeaten Path you will need to sign the usual release slip. In pre-planning for the trip we had plenty of email communication to make sure my particular tour would meet my abilities and my time constraints. The pricing for this tour was well worth it, especially given her attention to details about the area. This tour was marvelous- the area is indeed a national treasure! See it now before it becomes crowded- It's on every top 10 list of hot tourist spots. It is also a place where you can bring your dog (for now off leash). While it is not necessary to take a guide to view the public lands, having Margaret along made sure I saw many of the unique points that I'd otherwise be clueless to-- where the San Andreas Fault dips into the ocean, the making of sea stacks, blowholes, the only place where Spanish moss grows naturally. Margaret also shared many tidbits of the Mendocino area's history. After meeting up in The Sea Ranch we drove to the national monument (about 10 minutes north). My tour lasted about 3 hours. We hiked at an easy pace (or as Margaret rates it: 1 boot level). While the terrain for this particular tour was flat there were some areas that were slippery from the recent rains. She was very watchful of where and how I stepped, for which I was most appreciative as I am not that experienced of a hiker. While Unbeaten Path Tours provides a list of what to pack for the tour, it won't hurt to mention it here too. Make sure you bring along your camera and a small notebook to write notes of what you are viewing. It will definitely help you remember later when you're showing off your photos. And you will end up with great photos. Margaret would point out the perfect spot for that perfect photo. As we walked along she not only pointed out the geography of the area, but also the migratory birds including: Pelagic and Brandt cormorants, western, eared and horned Grebes (which I learned how to pronounce correctly - GREEEB), and we also saw a surf scoater floating about. AND there were whales galore off shore too! Margaret was a delight throughout the whole process. Her enthusiasm and love for the area was infectious. I would not hesitate to take another tour with her and would recommend it to others.

Our guides, Travis and Atlas, provided an educational and interactive experience. At the same time, they gave us our space to explore and just take in the beauty of the redwood forest. I do recommend dressing in layers as the morning half of the ride was cold and the return trip was warmer than expected. Bring gloves if you plan to be the driver because your hands will be exposed to the cold morning air due to controlling the speed of the electric assist controls. Make sure to use the bathroom before you leave. The only stop with a bathroom was at Camp Noyo, which is 12.5 miles from the start. It took my group of 3 rail bikes about 2 hours to get there. Don't be scared of the 25 miles because the electric assist made it an easy ride. I think we were able to pedal, with the assist on, for 90% of the trip. We used the full electric option for about 3-5 minutes total because we wanted to relax our legs. Overall, I recommend the experience, especially if you like being outdoors and surrounded by nature.

With the full length of the tracks not currently open to Willits, it didn't seem worth it to partake in the shorter train rides. However, once I learned about the rail bikes, I was in! There are two options for the rail bikes. The shorter, two hour excursion is to Glen Briar from their downtown Fort Bragg Depot (the Pudding Creek route) is about 7 miles round trip. If you want a full day adventure, there's the Noyo route which is 25 miles and departs from Sherwood road and is noted as a more stenous excursion. Given I was short on time, I opted for the Pudding Creek route. However, I would definitely do the rail bikes again and try the Noyo route. For the Pudding Creek route, we arrived about 15 minutes before our 10 am departure time. There's a small lot for guests and a short walk over to where the bikes are. Instructions are easy to follow and the staff is amazingly helpful and thorough. With the motor assist, pedaling along the rails was rather mellow. At the end of the line, we stopped at a scenic pavilion in the redwoods and had the option of a short guided hike or to just chill and enjoy the picnic area. I had time to do both and it was a really enjoyable way to spend the morning. There's a basket on the front of each bike to store your backpacks and drink holders for your water bottles. Back at the depot, there's a cute gift shop and behind it, a model train exhibit that was pretty cool. I love a good kitschy attraction and this was a fun, touristy thing to do while visiting the area. I enjoyed it so much, that I do wish the route was longer (hence my hope to go back and do the longer Noyo trip.) Sure, it's pricey, but if you can swing the cost, come in with the right expectations and you'll have a fun day, while also learning a bit more about the area from your guides.
