It overlooks the towns memorial gardens marking the World Wars. The hotel boasts 5 stars, and if the hotel is as accomplished as the bar/restaurant, I'm sure they deserve each star! The comfortable bar is a 19th century charmer. Comfortable inside and out. We sat on the terrace and enjoyed well crafted cocktails and a wonderful charcuterie/cheese board our first evening. Inclement weather led us to sit inside the next night. Service was top rate. The food was delicious. Our cocktails well made and tasty.

For travelers with limited mobility this could be a challenge. Our room was located in the back on a second floor, up a narrow stairway. Sarlat is a charming town that exudes the history and charm of the area. The inhouse restaurant was just marvelous. Our group were served wonderful meals that were a delight to the eye and full of flavor. The breakfast was excellent. Even with the invasion of ants in our room the last day, we enjoyed our stay here at La Verperie.

It's less than 5 minute walk to the center, and although they do not provide private parking, there are plenty of free space available on the street. However, the hotel and the room are terribly outdated and badly in need of renovation, not to mention their carpets can use serious steam cleaning. Although we did not expect the hotel to be in tip top shape, it was sub par even by other BW property standards. The staff at the reception was friendly and courteous, but the ladies who work in the breakfast room seemed as if it was the last place they wanted to be. Also, although the selection for breakfast was good, the offering was inconsistent, as we were told the first morning that the Express option included all the pastries, coffee and fruit, but then, the second morning that we were allowed to get only 1 of each. The change in the offering from one day to the next was dubious, and instead of changing the policy every morning, the hotel should clearly state and explain the breakfast options upon check in.

They are very friendly and attentive, and will give you guidance on the many attractions of the area, including old medieval town (Sarlat), old castles in the Dordogne valley, and really old cave paintings (Lascaux). The house is nicely done, with a common area where you can make late night coffees and strike up a conversation with another guest. One can almost feel at home there.

Villa des Consults refused us entry to our room in our guaranteed pre-paid reservation and kept our…read moremoney. We booked a 2-night stay, and when we arrived, the hosts were not there during their posted business hours. We called and they came about 10 minutes later as we waited outside, and they yelled at us incessantly as they approached. The yelling did not cease, and they continued to tell us they cancelled our reservation and were obstinate to any reason. I hoped to minimize emotional damage to my wife and child and told the hosts "Enough", if they wouldnt give us our room, we would find one somewhere else. Not worth the fight. I thought, later on, of course they will refund our money. They didn't. The entire experience tainted and ultimately spoiled our stay in Sarlat-la-Caneda. We had to spend extra time to find a hotel at the last minute, and the unprecedentedly rude treatment was quite jarring. These people are not professional in the least. Add to that how hard they were to reach afterwards when us and our booking agency tried to call them, they are only open a couple hours of the day and still then often aren't there during their posted business hours. It is a shame because we had such a wonderful trip throughout many other towns and accommodations across France. I recommend France, the Dordogne Valley, and even Sarlat - but steer clear of this bait and switch.

It is a bit difficult to find, but not impossible. For these reasons I have given the hotel four stars. However, I will not stay at Hôtel de la Pagézie again because of its manager, Mme. Estelle Guillemin. When we arrived at the hotel, exactly on time, I discovered that we were the only guests in the hotel that night. That notwithstanding, I had the distinct impression that we annoyed Mme. Guillemin by showing up. I tried to communicate with her in my weak French, the same French I used to communicate with all other French people over the previous two weeks, but Mme. Guillemin was determined not to understand me. After much eye rolling and shaking of her head, and no English, she gave me a key. I found it odd that a hotelier in Sarlat did not speak at least some English, but she apparently did not as she was completely unable to communicate with me. It was embarassing for me to be so rudely dismissed! The next morning, I examined the hotel's Golden Book: it was almost entirely written in English by English-speaking guests! It was apparent that Mme. Guillemin in fact spoke some English, but for whatever reason just would not speak it with me the previous afternoon, and further just refused to understand my French. (It's really not that bad for basic conversations like this one.) I found her to be rude and unwelcoming during my stay. We drove through Italy and France for three weeks, and this is the only hotel we stayed at where I did not feel welcome. I seldom write a bad review for any establishment, but I am making an exception for this hotel because of the shabby, dismissive treatment we received from Mme. Guillemin.

Best Cosmopolitan cocktails around! We enjoyed them so much the first night, we came back the next…read morenight, and they were just as good. The first night, my husband and I shared a yummy charcuterie board, loaded with French cheeses, sliced hams, fruit, and a nice currant sauce accompaniment with bread slices. The next night, I devoured a croque monsieur after sharing the ham with my husband. Accompanied with a salad and the best French fries I have had in quite awhile, it went well with my cosmo and my husband's negroni. We retreated from their fun outdoor patio to their indoor bar after a cloudburst , so we got to enjoy the comfy leather chairs and appreciate their beautiful bar. Charlie was so helpful, speaks great English, and switched the music to 'Singin' in the rain' as the cloud burst passed by.
