Then, after booking the Chelsea House, I found it in a tourism book. It was one of two places listed in Falmouth (in that book). I took that as a good sign. The book said that every room had a view of the water. Well, that's not actually true. There is one room that doesn't have a view of the ocean, and that's the Shell Room, namely, my room. But that's ok! Even though we overlooked the back yard (and the neighbor's dumpster), Chelsea House was worthwhile. There were a few weird aspects to the place and a few down sides. Our room was tiny. Super duper tiny. And it was clearly the last one to be remodeled (As in, the other rooms looked much nicer). The tea kettle was rusty (I used it anyway). You order your breakfast the night before. And if you're not down at 8, you're not going to be eating breakfast. I really appreciated that because it meant I was forced to start my day earlier. I definitely got to squeeze more in that way. But, they are a street away from the water and a short block from the beach. They are incredibly close to the bus/train station. So close that when we left, we walked our very heavy luggage to the train station. They are also only a short walk to the center of town, so it's easy to shop and go to dinner, etc. They were very nice. And it was very affordable, considering it was the official start of the season, and most places were booked. I guess with the tiny room with no view (and the weak dollar), it was one time you wouldn't mind paying for what you get!

Plenty of room for two of us, a nice bathroom and plenty of pillows! The hotel is a 1 minute walk from the beach and about 6 minutes from the town centre and Gylly Beach Cafe. A friend found St Michaels and was able to get us a 3 room suit for a very good deal. Our room consisted on an en suite bath, small sitting room, large master bedroom with a king size bed, and a smaller bedroom with two single beds. The staff was helpful and got us our dinner reservations and the food was delicious! The waitstaff was so attentive and actually declined the tip that we gave them since our dinner was supposed to be included in the price of our room. One evening we inquired about room service, and after giving us some run around, they brought us some sandwiches. They were terrible and cost quite a bit considering they were just white bread and cheese! Unfortunately, despite what they told us when we booked the room, they were not able to fit us in at the spa except for one of our group who wanted a massage. We also didn't get a chance to use the pool, which would have been nice.

We weren't staying here but rather stopping in to try and find a late lunch after an 8 hour train journey from London. We had already stopped at one place that wasn't serving lunch (just sweets). We thought that this place looked rather impressive so we went in. You would have thought that we had asked the staff at reception for a unicorn by the looks on their faces. Is asking for lunch such a strange thing in Falmouth? Again, we were told that lunch service was over, but they did have some sandwiches and they would seat us and we could look over that menu. Since it was late, we were the only ones in the dining room but then again, we didn't expect it to be packed. But when we looked at the menu, we were sorely disappointed. There were only about 3 choices and they were exorbitantly expensive. That's when those words were uttered...and we walked out. It looks like it might be a nice place to stay, but my experience with it is less than stellar.

The hotel itself is very exclusive, for most the only time they will be able to afford it is during the works party xmas party. The staff are very friendly and accommodating, they will ensure that your stay in their sumptuous and luxurious accommodation will be remembered for years to come. The food served in the myriad of bars and restaurants is excellent and prepared from the finest ingredients. Can only describe this place as awesome.

First impressions are of decaying faded grandeur. Obvious dry rot, paint peeling, mold and worn soiled carpets etc. Why keep chipped and scratched furniture in the hallways? The location can not be beat, so I am at a loss to understand why money has not been put into infrastructure here. I don't know which market segment they want to appeal to. Probably tour groups are their bread and butter, but I have to say with what they offer, they will it will have to step up their game, or there will be complaints. The food is barely acceptable, no options for breakfast, seriously, who wants pre cooked fried eggs?, the same sausage, beans, fried tomatoes and potatoes every single morning?, and don't even think about asking for cream for coffee. I think that the staff that they have are trying, but there seems to be a lack of enthusiasm and a tendency to say no, rather then accommodate. I think the English service industry is very different than the French or Spanish. This venue could be absolutely amazing, but it seems the owners do not want to put any money into what is necessary, such a shame as this hotel has beautiful grounds and the most beautiful views of the bay.

I had the whole of my wedding at this venue and all the staff were terrific, bending over backwards to assist you in whatever way possible. The food is of a high standard, with various locations within the hotel serving. Hot and cold beverages are available throughout the day along with any alcohol that you may require. Rooms within the hotel are of a high standard and are all en-suite. Worth a stay, off season is the cheapest time to go and can also afford some of the best weather.

The breakfasts were very nice and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately I would echo the previous review - we were in a road facing room and as a result, it was really, really loud going late into the night. That was really disappointing, try as we might to put towels around the window but it didnt make any different. The noice actually came from the bar next door and the people in the street - it seemed they would never shut-up! The sad irony was that we had very favourable weather - if it was raining they would have had to have drunk indoors and we wouldn't have had the problem!

How wrong I was, the staff are attentive, the large rooms were clean and the Full English breakfast was hot and served within minutes of us ordering it each morning. We had two rooms, a double and a single, both had sea views (although many rooms do not). The gardens were lovely and the rooms had everything you would expect. We did not dine in the hotel as we were visiting family but did enjoy the bar in the evening.

We stayed two nights at the Greenbank Hotel while we were on a five day tour of Southwest England…read more This was definitely the best of the three places we've stayed. Our room was generously sized and the double bed was larger than expected, more like our queen size bed at home. We didn't have much of a view, but it's not like we spent our whole day in the room. The best part of the room was the bathroom. There was a nice, deep soaking tub, a rain shower, and a handheld shower that had adjustable settings. There was also plenty of hot water with great water pressure. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful and lots of choices. There are a couple reasons why only four stars. The pillows weren't all that great; they were flat, hard, or lumpy or some combination of those three. The wifi dropped out a bit and it was a bit slow. The hotel pub's food was mediocre at best. The room was warm and there wasn't a fan in the room, but I think that's more of an anomaly since others in our tour group had fans in the room and when we asked at the front desk they brought one up to our room quickly, so customer service was pretty good. :) I will caution those that have difficulties with stairs you may want to see if they have a ground or first floor accommodation because the maze on the second floor had us going from the lift up a few stairs, down a hall, down a few stairs before we got to our room and others had even more stairs for their second floor room. It's an old Victorian hotel so stairs are expected, but the maze wasn't expected...still I'd stay here again.
