The heartiest of endorsements! Our food was absolutely incredible: so good we convinced the server…read moreto let us buy one of the clever menus. The marketing for this place is en pointe! Beautiful, clever interior with the touch of more than one local artist. Club-style restrooms with great tagging and music posters. We do speak a little German, so we tried - but our server was kindly accommodating and helpful with recommendations and conversation. The schnitzel -- chef's kiss!! The dessert - the single best we had on our ten day trip! My wife's stew - melt in the mouth! We would go back again and again and again if we were there; wished we'd found it earlier in our trip. Cannot say enough good about this place. Oh - and the prices are reasonable too.

I went to "die Scherbe" early on a Sunday morning. I guess I need to get used to this, but in Graz…read moreit seems like there's a pretty big culture of reserving tables. I arrived and most tables were reserve but empty. Maybe it was just the tables in the Hinterhof, a very chill and shaded area. Luckily, one table was open. It was just me and my daughter but it was a big table; I was embarrassed. I would have gladly sat at a smaller table, but like I said, all of them were reserved. No one gave me the impression that I was doing something wrong though. Indeed, for Austrian expectations, I'd say the service was great. My daughter and I sat undisturbed for some time: she with her iPad, me enjoying the quiet that comes with my daughter watching her iPad. The food was good. I found it slightly had that the soft boiled eggs came in a little glass, but it did make it more manageable to eat them. The eggs came with a very soft white bread, which was nice. I also liked the tea, even though I don't understand why they want me to put the tea bag in. Black tea is supposed to use boiling hot water...don't wait! I got a couple of butter croissants, as well: one for my daughter (who ruined her appetite with Fig Newtons) and one for me since I had ordered strawberry jam and used all the bread for the eggs.

I can't rave enough about the wonderful staff at this hotel!!…read more We got an email before our stay informing us that there was going to be a Marathon taking place in the morning after our Saturday night stay. Our hotel, which was very close to the Old Town, would be off limits to vehicles until 4:00 p.m. We were only going to be there the one night, and would need to get on the road long before that time. The email said that the normal check-out time would be extended until then. But we were worried. We don't travel light, and had no idea where we'd park, since the garage wouldn't be a viable option. We imagined ourselves playing leapfrog with our luggage through the streets of Graz. That didn't happen. Instead, when we checked in we were told that we could park in the garage, or they would park it for us outside of the Marathon zone and retrieve it when we were ready to leave the next day. And to make up for the inconvenience, they comped the breakfast buffet for the next morning, which was excellent. Our room was wonderful - spacious and modern, as was the rest of the hotel. Everyone at the desk was so genuinely friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was only a stone's throw from the Old Town. The next morning one of the staff carried all our luggage to our car, which was parked a few blocks away in an outside space. And before we left, the young woman at the desk got me a cup of coffee to go! Augartenhotel is definitely as good as it gets!
