Now here's where things shifted for us. Pricing (Lab Diamonds): We were quoted around $5,000 for a lab-grown diamond ring -- 3 carats or less on a 14k gold band. That immediately raised red flags for us because we had already been shopping around. A competitor offered a nearly identical ring -- similar specs, slightly different brand name on the band -- for about $2,500. That's a massive difference. We understand local stores have overhead. We understand brand premiums. But a 100% markup on a lab-grown diamond in today's market feels excessive -- especially when lab prices have dropped significantly nationwide. What bothered us most wasn't just the price -- it was that it was presented as firm and non-negotiable. For shoppers who haven't done their homework, that's a very expensive lesson. The staff took it to the jeweler in the back, and within five minutes came back and said: "Fixed. No charge."
