In the Spring Semester of 1994, I studied in Maasticht, the Netherlands where I experienced my…read morefirst Carnaval. Carnaval, also known as vastelaovend in Limburg (the province in which Maastricht is located), is the Dutch version of Mardis Gras. For years, I've wanted to host a Carnaval party in the United States, and I'm finally going to do it in 2017. Therefore, I wanted some authentic vastelaovend supplies from my beloved Dutch adopted home city of Maastricht.
I reached out to Carnavalsshop 't Mooswief via email a couple of months ago to see if they'd ship to Chicago. They were very responsive and patient as I made my inquiries about the availability of items, the shipping cost, etc. Once they determined he cost of shipping, it took me a little bit of time to figure out how to transfer the funds. Once the funds were sent, they shipped me a glorious box of Carnaval items for my party. The box arrived decorated with their brand stickers, and my items were carefully packaged in one of their store's branded plastic bags, a treasure in its own right. They had asked that I let them know when the package arrived, and they even responded to this notification. What a delightful, professional, and friendly company offering the absolute coolest red, yellow, and green-striped Carnaval items! I had looked and looked for similar items at Halloween stores and online in the United States to no avail. When in Maastricht, visit Carnavalsshop 't Mooswief to stock up on red, yellow, and green-striped Carnaval items! You'll be hard-pressed to find them Stateside, and they make the most delightful Limburg-themed souvenirs and gifts!
