My mom actually worked for the company for several years as a teller and then assistant. They paid her pennies. Still, we banked with them. They sold her a trash BMW back in 2008. Still we continued to bank with them. We loved Jefferson County Employee Credit Union at one point. You would think that with my solid relationship with JCU, I would be able to call on them in my time of need. I had two personal loans that were always current and successfully paid off. But when I needed a small $8000 loan for my nursing school tuition they denied me. I needed a $5000 loan when I had pregnancy complications to help get me through the tight spot we were in financially because I was put on bed rest. They denied me. My car ended up getting repossessed because I was denied the loan and I ended up filing bankruptcy. Had my financial institution that I trusted and thought were a family, actually helped me when I needed them most I wouldn't be leaving. They could have gotten several more loans out of me on top of a mortgage eventually. I would have gladly paid them the interest fees over some other bank. What is the point in having a LONG standing positive relationship with a small bank if they are the only ones that benefit from it and not the members as well? If they are going to just look at you on paper and not as a valued member?
