    Scott's Addition

Our…read moreproblem was we had recently joined a Password Manager App. That app would not work properly with my Android # 14. So, after trying to understand how to proceed with it, several times, and failing, I decided to go in person to the bank, the closest to me. This branch is in Scott Addition (NMLS# 1774075), a couple of miles from hour house. It was a thoroughly delightful experience: Not only, the financial person helping me was professional, and efficient, she was also very calm, very understanding and got me through the ordeal of setting and resetting my password through the app manager until I was completely familiar with the procedure. I left the bank a new person! I want to thank Tamika T. very much for her help! It really had become a nightmare for me, not anything less than that, and she is worth a million! The bank itself was in a nice sunny surrounding, very accessible from a main thoroughfare, with parking available. Great!

Unfortunately, my experience over the last several weeks has completely changed my view of the organization. After my husband lost his job, I proactively contacted VACU to discuss temporary hardship assistance related to my personal loan. I have maintained excellent credit for decades, consistently carried an 800+ credit score, and have never made a late payment during my entire relationship with the credit union. I wasn't avoiding my obligation. I was reaching out early, responsibly, and transparently to ask about possible payment relief, refinancing, or modification options before falling behind. What should have been a straightforward conversation turned into a frustrating three-week cycle of poor communication, endless transfers, conflicting information, and extremely long hold times, often exceeding two hours. The transition to the new Member One system appears to have created significant operational and customer service issues. The online loan payment experience is also incredibly difficult and not user-friendly. While I was eventually granted a short payment extension, the refinance process was equally frustrating. I was initially told refinancing would not meaningfully lower my payment, so I requested that my application be withdrawn. Days later, I was informed that I had actually been approved pending proof of rental income. I promptly submitted lease agreements, bank statements showing recurring rental deposits, and tax returns. Despite clear documentation and visible monthly deposits into my account, I was told the income could not be verified and would not be considered. The Virginia Credit Union I knew for decades used to go above and beyond for its members. This experience felt completely different. The level of inefficiency, lack of coordination, and inability to resolve straightforward issues has been deeply disappointing. At this point, VACU feels less like a member-focused credit union and more like a large corporate bank, except with worse customer service. Comparatively, I have found Navy Federal Credit Union significantly easier and more competent to work with. My parents and grandparents were also longtime members, so this is not a review I write lightly. But after 31 years, I am seriously considering moving my business elsewhere and refinancing my loan simply to avoid dealing with this institution again.

This WF is currently at 2 stars. So I'm helping them by clicking 3 stars…read more I've been banking here for several years. For the most part, they have been very helpful. Until yesterday. I needed cash. There are 2 outdoor ATMs in the front of the store, but they are usually in direct sunlight so that I cannot read the display. So my other options were to use the drive-thru or walk inside. Drive-thrus seem so impersonal, that I prefer to park and walk indoors. So I'm indoors, standing in line for a teller for about 10 minutes. When I get to the front of the line, a teller at the drive-thru comes up to the indoor windows, and says, I can help you maam. I say okay. Then the window teller frees up and says she can help me. He says, no, I can help her. I wanted a cash withdrawal, and give him my debit + license. He returns to the drive thru window, waits on at least 1 car there, and then handles my withdrawal, and returns to me, some 10 minutes later, with the cash + cards. I wish he had stuck to his drive thru window. I'll know better for next time. :( It's a clean store, personnel are always friendly, even solicitous, and there is nearly always an employee standing inside the door to greet and help me if I need direction.

I have to say, these are some of the rudest people. I thought they were just rude to me for some reason, but today this lady was trying to cash a check and she seemed pretty polite, but apparently there was a problem with the way the check was made out. Instead of politely explaining the situation, the teller was just rude and loud. Her name was Ray Sha or Sha Ray or something like that. Just a nasty person. Don't know why she's in a customer service role. The manager just stood there and didn't intervene to ask the teller to lower her voice or anything. Just wow. Sorry, that I can't give it zero stars.
