The Chanlon showroom is filled with lovely, hand-crafted examples of 18th and 19th Century style furniture, which have been made to look distressed and aged as if they have been in grand country homes for years. The influence is mainly English but you can see that Scandinavian and French styles come through in lots of the pieces in-store. Kitchens come in lots of customised styles and collections, including designs for smaller spaces and hand-crafted Oak fittings, ranging from £20,000 upwards. Expensive. Very. Chanlon also sell furniture for the bedroom, bathroom and study areas of your house, such as the beautiful four poster bed, at almost £6,250. This would be the ultimate in luxury! The pieces are beautiful but this beauty comes at a price, and a hefty one at that. I can dream though!

They sell furniture that has been painted with the aforementioned brand, lovely pieces for good prices. The owner can give you all kinds of tips on using the paint, ideas for how to wax or varnish, color tips, and possibly anything else you might need to know about painting. Tip: don't buy the brand brushes, which you wouldn't once you discovered the price tag. They have a few other home items, pillows and rugs, cute items that are sometimes well priced and in the instance of the rug that caught my eye (£500) a tad over my budget but likely handmade and quality and worth it. For accessibility, there are 2 sets of stairs and 2 elevators but the elevators are only supposed to be for wheelchairs and prams. There are toilets on both floors but the one I visited upstairs was terribly claustrophobic. The furniture looks nice and is probably better quality than IKEA (but I don't own any of their furniture so I don't know). Overall, it is a nice place and is a quieter alternative to IKEA.

This kind of stuff doesn't really float my kind of boat but I did see a really pretty dark wood table at £95 that I quite liked. They stock lots of little accessories such as crystals, jewellery and candles and the staff are really helpful too. The whole shop has a really laid back atmosphere and great for a browse without feeling pressured to buy anything.

They have a range of cards and some lovely stuff for the kitchen, including plaid patterned coat hangers and pretty ornaments. So even though it has the 90s hippy vibe, there is more variety than you may think if you care to enter. The shop assistant was absolutely lovely and her laid back approach left me free to browse to my heart's content. I came out with cactus candles which are awesome but too nice to burn!

With a tight budget, we thought this was going to be the perfect opportunity to buy a new kitchen and keep within the limits of what finances we had. Bear in mind - at this point I have never shopped for appliances, fixtures or fittings or any whathaveyou. I have no idea on the price of anything, and I have a terrible habit of paying for what I want without thought of looking elsewhere. We enter the storeroom and within minutes have found a stunning, amazing, perfect kitchen with everything we want. It's fantastic. I can't believe our luck! We grab an assistant and start tucking into the biscuits (who leaves mini eggs out for their customers?!) as she draws up a plan for our tiny no room to swing a cat kitchen. We get a cost back. We haven't decided on appliances, and we're fitting it ourselves. The cost for the units only is over 10k. Bear in mind that we went in during a 50% off sale. And we have to pay the whole price upfront before the kitchen is ours - deposit and then the rest by the time the kitchen is delivered otherwise we don't get the benefit of the 50%. Ouch. Luckily for us, we found the same kitchen elsewhere and much better suited overall to our budget, but I can't see how a kitchen unit can demand that price. Staff were helpful, but overall, it's not somewhere likely to see my pennies, or my pounds.

We were both a bit surprised that there wasn't anything near the amount of furnishings displayed on their website IN the actual store. When enquiring about this, a sales assistant informed us that the manufacturers uploaded the images to the website and often didn't take them down. Eh, what now? In the age of the internet, they really really need a better and more accurate website. We were disappointed to not see anything we were interested in on the shop floor, but it was explained to us that they have several catalogues for customers to go through and furnishings can be ordered that way. It's a good system which means that they provide much more than appears on first look at the showroom. Back to the bad, the sales assistant wasn't able to tell us the price of the piece we decided we liked. Let's be honest, the vast majority of people shopping at Richard F Mackay's super January sale will be there looking for a deal - by that I mean, price is important. Price really wins over looks to a great extent. I don't want to spend time going through a catalogue, picking out a wardrobe, discussing the right varnish, and then finding out two days later that the wardrobe we liked was almost SEVEN THOUSAND POUNDS. Seriously?!?! Because sure, of course we have 7k to burn on a wardrobe, that's why we're at the super January sale, clutching the £80 off voucher.

Whether I'm firing a pizza in the oven or baking some fresh bread I love nothing better than to rustle up a storm in the kitchen. I've recently been experimenting with baking, making all kinds of cakes, muffins and brownies and adding as much chocolate as possible. Lakeland is a dream for someone who loves cooking and sees it as more of a hobby than a chore. They have so many quirky kitchen accessories including pretty moulds for cakes, cake stands, apple slicers, blenders and various other cooking utensils. On a recent visit I noticed that they have the Soda Stream and I used to have one of them in my old flat and it was ace. It retails at just under £60 and at the moment if you buy it you get a free sampler kit with various different flavours to add to it - sounds awesome!

When you enter the store, the right side hold all the baking/cooking equipments and ingredients. You can find pots, pans, spatulas. You can also find find various ingredients such as chocolate, fondant, extracts, cooking books. On the right side of the building, they have an eclectic mix of sweets you can buy. From Turkish delights, biscuits, chocolate, candies, you can it here. I like this section cause the products they sell changes with the season. The lower level has various kitchen utensils and home products. You can get lost down there with all the various products you can buy for you house/ flat. This place can be a bit pricey so I would check other stores if they sell it for a cheaper price. The staff are friendly and willing to help. This is honestly a great place to spend getting lost for a bit in the world of baking/ housewares!
